Surviving wisdom teeth extraction day 2

Wednesday, April 06, 2011

So, I'm a got my wisdom teeth out was done before and scared me into waiting 2 years to have the others removed...because of having a tooth removed A's a preteen one of my wisdom Getty shifted into it's place and now it's in a great position to remain..
So only two out left and bottom right. I also,(knowing how much the first time hurt) asked for meds of some kind.I got 3 ativin.they told me to take them 1 and 1/2 hours before the appointment time.I felt drunk within an hour and actually walked into a stand in the mall on the way to the dentist...
They numb top and bottom at the sometime...then began to pull the top right...about halfway through I started crying and making ow noises and they stopped and asked if I was ok..I said it hurts ALOT...and they gave me more needles to numb it..wait a few minutes then pulled it..still hurt but not as bad...they gave me a 5 minute break then started the bottom right...there was some strange sounds, the crack you hear and a slight pull and it basically popped out..really easy that one...
LESSON learned, don't suffer tell your dentist it hurts..
I had no stitches needed.they gave me gauze and instructions, on gauze use and rinsing/drinks...and let me go..I was pretty dopey from the numbing and ativin but got hubby and left.
I feel asleep twice on the way home and as soon as I was home I sat up on the couch and fell asleep again for about 3 hours..there was a bit of bleeding but not much..I was drooling blood but not too much...took Tylenol as soon as I woke up..
I tried to stay awake and helped hubby(took day off) put boys to bed.then I stayed up till 11 took mor ibuprophen and went to bed sitting up as much as I ice pack came with me..
Today was bad...lots of ibuprofen regularly but the numbness and ativin worn off packs help but only some..mouth tastes gross, can rinse later with salt water but that's it.
I lost 2 n 1/2 lbs since Monday...seeing as I was only allowed 1 slice of toast and 1/2 glass of juice before surgery.then Tuesday night after I woke up I had a pudding so I wasn't taking meds on empty stomach(also 8 glasses of water to counteract hangover you can get from ativin).today I had applesauce, another pudding, mash potatoes and hubby brought me home 2 vanilla milkshakes(one for today one for tomorrow which I may at a banana too).
Bed soon, where I'll stay propped up and ice pack as needed...and set alarm for ibuprofen time...tomorrow will be close to the same..pain is worse first 2-3 days after extraction, then a week to week and a a half to finish healing enough for almost regular food and exercise... :(
I miss exercising and feel guilty not doing it but just bending over makes me lightheaded, plus I don't want dry'll wait and maybe get out for a walk if not too much in pain...
Plus pudding is waaaay sweet!I usually skip them(100 cals is ALOT for something I don't care either way about).Applesauce is tasty and sweet ( no sugar added kind even!)if I'm not sick of it after this I'm gonna use it on those days when I need something sweet...
So, point, just like everything else in life, where there's pain it's for a reason and with time, work, safe keeping and patience we'll get through it :)

I just had all 4 of my wisdom teeth surgically removed last week. It was extremely painful couple of days afterwards. Alot of swelling and bruising and I stuck to unsweetened applesauce and low fat yogurt. Don't worry about exercise at this point. I was craving the movement as well but you need to let your body heal and you will be at it again in no time! Hope you feel better soon!

OUCH! I got all 4 pulled at once. They knocked me out and said I still fought him the whole time. The meds made me so sick too. Take it easy and you'll be back to normal in no time!

Monday, April 04, 2011

So, tomorrow I'm going to the dentist...two wisdom teeth are coming out...I've had one out already and it hurt like heck!I've got atavin for the appointment...n I can eat 1 slice of toast and 1/2 a glass of juice tomorrow then nothing till 24-48 hrs after they take them out!not that I'll wanna should lose extra pounds this
I tried to eat a little extra today and discovered I'm not interested in extra food beyond what I'd normally eat..guess that shows my changes are working :)..
But the no exercise for at least a week will be the WORST!n I've got two sick boys I'm coping with so this'll be a long week..

EMIM05- not sure you'll see this or if I need to write on your page, but since I took ativin I was told not to eat more then the toast and juice I had for breakfast(you have to stop eating after midnight if ur having a morning appointment)..
Normally yes you can eat as soon as the swelling and numbness wheres off..but since I was fairly drugged up on ativin(I never take drugs so it affected me really strongly), so I actually came home propped myself up on the couch and slept for 4 hours then had a few drinks of water.(to counteract the hangover I was told I'd receive from the ativin)..
Trust me I'm not starving.I feel kinda sick from the blood and last night there was a it's seeping not pouring but still nauseating...
I have had a small applesauce because I wanted something other than blood taste in my lots of water is I'm feeling full from that...may try a smoothie later...but depends how I feel...
It really wasn't too bad...the top was painful but it's a hard to get at spot.(they were all out and visible)..the first one the had to freeze twice cause it hurt and I said it did so they froze it some more.the bottom came out after a slight pull...waaay easier than the top..I had another out before these two and it hurt like HECK! And swelled for a week!, couldn't eat for that long either..
All in all I'm good..tired, sore but fine..still bleeding some but ok, not enough to worry packs for face(sore from back to front canines), and heat later(after 24 hrs)..
Message me when you do find out and I'll give u list of things you can eat after the 24-48 hr mark(some people eat sooner if they have regular needles for dentist work),and definitely think about getting ativin prescribed..helped ALOT!
Thanks for your concern :)

oh man. I didn't know you had to wait to eat afterwords. My parents dentist told them wait 6-8 hours not 1-2 days! I would be starving.

Let me know how everything turned out. I have to wait 12 months until my insurance will cover wisdom teeth :( i need all 4 of mine out because they can't decide whether to stay in or come out.

First blog...

Friday, April 01, 2011

Soo...I've been dieting(if that's the right word) since febuary.I started at 256 lbs..and after 2 months I'm down to 242.5. That's 13.5 lbs in about 7 weeks...I gave myself 3 months(almost) to lose 20 lbs...
Plus I've changed my eating habits, while I still have what I really, really, crave, I wait and have a glass of water or a herbal tea before I eat it, usually I don't want it after a drink of some kind...I try to get more veggies than before and fruit, and not eat junk food...I never thought about it before but I've notice since starting this journey that I'm a "boredom" eater, a late night snacker and an eating in front of the computer/t.v./book person...all bad habits that let you eat waaay more calories than you need.
So, portion control, counting calories in my journal, and not eating during any of the above times has helped...unfortunately my husband, friends and I do a lot of drinking most weekends..casually but it adds up in if anyone knows a good low calorie drink please share...right now I drink ceasar's at about 150 cal per drink, and limit myself to 4.Also with an extra workout/walk/stair climb on those days to help counteract those cals...
I know my goal weight of 200 by October will be hard to accomplish but I'm gonna try my best(over 40 lbs in the next 6 months)..but I wanna be here for my kids and be healthy and happy enough to play with them!and hey if I look good well I'm doing it all the best for me! :)

    Great job!!!

When I'm out drinking, I usually have Diet Coke and Vodka. If it's at a party, it's Diet Sunkist or Diet Tea and Vodka. Or wine (Reisling w/ Diet 7-up, or Moscato).

Keep it up and you will definintely hit your October goal!! Woo-whooo! :)
