Who's taking care of ME? Week One

Saturday, July 31, 2010

This was week one of consciously practicing stress reduction techniques.
Well, the stress opportunities just kept on coming. I'm currently caring for my Mom as she undergoes chemo/radiation treatments. This week my Dad found out he too will undergo radiation for brain tumors.
My happy stress is our newest grandson is on the way in a few weeks.

What I accomplished:

I practiced deep breathing exercises and listened to stress reduction CD's while falling asleep.
I managed to get in a little exercise.
Sparked everyday!

What I need to work on first:

My stress eating is out of control at the moment. I don't know where to begin right now as nothing has worked lately.
Work in more exercise.
I need to learn to accept more help when offered.
Remember to take my supplements each day.
Go to bed earlier even if I don't feel sleepy. I need the rest.

YOu certainly have a lot on your plate--me too with caring for a disabled hubby and bling mom-so I can totally relate. You have to take time for yourself or you cannot hold up under the pressure and I am so glad to see that you are doing that. Hang in there and remember that you are so important!! Without you taking care of yourself NOTHING would get done that your loved ones need!!!
Hugs,
Sarah

Oh, I know about stress eating. Including this weekend. I'm not OD'ing on anything terrible - I've just eaten TOO much!

stress eating: only buy healthy food...so if you stress eat at least it is healthy

also, I made a pledge with myself...if i wanted to eat bad food, I had to WALK to the store to get it....that stops it a lot!

if you go to bed and aren't tired...you can read a book, do a crossword....I like to watch tv...it makes me sleepy...:-D

good luck! emoticon

Who's taking care of ME?

Sunday, July 25, 2010

The answer can only be ME.

Today is step one. Creating my Self Care plan. Investing time and effort into my own health and well-being.

I will begin with giving up the expectation that others will know what I need.

Recognize my ongoing struggle with healthy eating and an exercising routine and emphasize realistic achievable steps toward my goals.

Recognize my frustration with my inability to manage stress and exhaustion which leaves me depleted at the end of every day and emphasize healthy activities that are emotionally stimulating instead of those that only pretend to be a mood booster.

Place emphasis on the steps which will benefit me on all levels of body-mind-spirit.

And finally Be Gentle with Myself.

Oh YEAH! At the end of the day, no one else can do it for us...we have to decide for ourselves that taking care of ourselves is something that needs to be done. As women, many of us spend so much of our time taking care of others, that we forget ourselves. Keep up the positive thinking!

AMEN to that one!! If we do not take care of ourselves no one else will do it. You have got to make yourself a priority and do what is right for you. In order to love others you have to love yourself. So glad that you are creating a self care plan. You deserve it!!
Hugs,
Sarah
