Sharing - Where I Am Now

Saturday, February 04, 2012

The last few years have been a roller coaster of stress. My parents were ill. My daughter had a high risk pregnancy. My husband had to shift careers. My dog passed away. And I continued to struggle with fibromyalgia.

To fast forward, both my parents passed away in the fall. I miss them and am still dealing with all that goes along with settling their affairs.
My daughter was blessed with a beautiful healthy little boy.
My husbands business is slowly growing.
I have a hilarious little pup to keep me active.

My health was certainly not a priority during all the turmoil. I stumbled through the days, but at the same time keeping up with Spark People knowing this is where I could find the support I needed.

In November, I was started on a plan to address some health issues that shocked me to have. High cholesterol and insulin resistance to go along with the fibro. Problems I caused myself by neglecting my health. I refused medication desiring to go the natural route.

I just received my 12 week lab report and feel good with my progress. With some very good nutritional support and guidance from my Dr. I was able to drop my triglycerides by 101 points into normal range. Other numbers also went down. My Vitamin D finally rose to normal levels after years of no change. I dropped 15 pounds also.
This is all a result of nutritional changes because my exercise is still limited to yoga and short walks, but I am improving and getting stronger.

I appreciate all my Spark Friends and Spark Home which provide so much support and guidance. I feel positive moving forward that I will see more improvements.

You have certainly had some major challenges recently. It sounds as though they are beginning to improve in some areas. The birth of a new grandchild is something precious. Often we put ourselves on the last of our priority list, if at all, when dealing with such stressors. You are not alone. There are many sending you positive thoughts. It is time to focus on yourself now.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. emoticon

My Dad has passed on also- nine weeks after Mom

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

I really don't know what to say.

I just feel like sharing what has happened. For my parents to be physically gone does not seem real.

I will always hear their words of wisdom in my mind daily. They taught me well.

I loved them and wish I could have done more.

I'm sorry for the loss of your parents. I remember feeling stunned the moment I realized I was an "orphan". The realization that they were both gone, was devastating. I miss them terribly, even now...

Just remember that they live on in you Bonnie...& they'll always be in your heart. Take special care now...

My condolences to you. I have never gone through this but today I got the call that my mother had fallen last nite and hurt herself badly. My sister called me and she told me both of them are really in a bad way.. My father couldn't even help her up, he had to call a neighbor... they are 80 and 75. So, I live 5000 km away and am estranged from my father due to incest. You were very fortunate to have both of your parents and a close relationship with them. Sorry for your pain and grief, keep the good memories close to your heart. emoticon

My Mom Passed Away Unexpectedly

Friday, August 19, 2011

My Mother was my world.

The last few years have been so emotional for her and myself coming to terms with different health battles she has had to deal with. She firmly stood her ground to remain as independent as possible.

The last few days have been a whirl of activity that I was not really prepared for.
For a long time my routine has been consumed with thinking and anticipating her needs. I have not really accepted that she is not here to take care of.

I miss Mom.

I lost my mom unexpectedly in 1996. She was in Florida and I was in TN. Found out over the phone from my poor dad. She was only 66. I never had to take care of my mom and never got to spend the time with her that I would have like to since we were military and moved around a lot. I am so very sorry for your loss, but in time there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. You are in my prayers.

“When you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.” - Will Rogers

Saturday, April 02, 2011

These strategies are from Craig Jarrow, the author of Time Management Ninja.
They seem so appropriate for me at this time.

How To Get Out Of That Hole
What hole are you stuck in?

Behind on your work? Email inbox overflowing? Out-of-shape?

Here are some tips to help you get out of that hole:

Stop the Behavior! – Stop the digging. What has gotten you here? That is the question you will need to answer if you want to stop digging deeper into the situation you are already in. Are you tired everyday at work because you stay up too late? Stop watching TV and go to bed earlier! Missing deadlines because you leave things to the last minute? Impose self deadlines that are 2 days ahead of the actual deadline.

Narrow Your Focus – If you are in a hole due to lack of keeping up, you may need to narrow what you are working on. Even pare your obligations. Sometimes you are in the hole because you are overwhelmed. Know your load, and take actions to reduce your commitments if needed.

Choose a Different Path – Sometimes the best way to stop ending up in the same hole is to choose a different path. If you are constantly butting heads with a teammate at work, choose to work with someone else. It is not always that simple, but there are usually alternate paths to the same objectives.

Replace Bad Habits – If your habits are your downfall, you need better ones. The best way to overcome bad habits is not to try to stop them but to replace them with new ones. Concentrate on new ones to overwrite the ones that are causing problems. For example, if you spend too much time surfing the web, instead of trying to stop it, replace that time with a more productive activity.

Seek Help – Some people will not ask for help even when they are sinking into the proverbial quicksand. Whether it is pride or stubbornness, it can be a deadly attitude to have. There are some problems that require you to ask for help, (even professional help), to remedy. I liken this to the person who is seriously ill, yet refuses to see a doctor.

Finding Your Way Out
By replacing bad behaviors, you can stop further descent into your hole.

Getting out is another matter.

Don’t expect to get out immediately.

Depending on how deep your have dug, it might take while. Be realistic.

However, with hard work and sustained effort, even the deepest of holes can be overcome.

When you look back, you will wonder how you ever ended up in there in the first place.

What hole are you stuck in? How will you get out?

Good food for thought! At the beginning of Lent I asked God to speak to me (or guide my thoughts) and the thought that came to me was ... if you don't like what you're reaping, change what you are sowing. That seems to go along with your blog thoughts from Will Rogers ... stop digging when you're in a hole.
