Second Monday of the Week

It is hard when these holidays fall on Tuesday, because Wednesday seems like Monday again and I've got to get geared up. I didn't get to the gym last night like I was supposed to..........but I did get my little dumb bells out and did a livingroom work out for 1/2 hour. Tonight I'm waiting for a notary to come over to sign some papers and then -- no matter what -- I'll be going out into the very cold and treading (dreading?) for 30 minutes. Eating was OK today and so far I have 2 glasses of water in (2 to go). It really is cold here and it makes me want to snuggle in. I am betting the gym is so full tonight that even at 8:00 p.m. I'll probably have to wait. It will be interesting to see what the gym looks like on Feb. 1st -- probably not as crowded I'm betting.

    The gym is always crowded in January! It always thins out by February. I am headed there today, myself with my dd, but I go at such an off time there are very few people there anyway, so I don't think I'll run into any problems.

2008 A Fresh Start

I slept through New Year's -- a first for me, but it came anyway so I guess that was OK. Today is a new day, new year. I plan on going to the gym, eating and tracking food (again) and getting back on track. I want to quit messing around and get this done. I'm sure lots of folks are saying this same thing -- and a big congrats to those who have just kept trucking through all this doing everything right and losing weight. Maybe next year I can do that. In reflection, 2007 has been a good year. The bad blip on the calendar was my husband's heart stopping on July 4th (that was sure a fireworks day). The hard days where 1) Alex going home; 2) Robert not returning to Japan. So I guess three things isn't too much out of 365 days. The highlight was in finding Spark and making so many new, great friends and realizing that I need to be healthy. So I look forward to the New Year with commitment (not hope) in my heart and I'm ready to go. Happy New Year to all the great Spark people and to Sparkman who gave us this great site to help us all motivate and achieve our goals. He's my "person of the year."

    I certainly would have slept through New Years, had most of our neighbors used up their fireworks on the 4th like they were supposed to. It’s all good. I was glad to see 12:00 (out of half an opened eyelid) on the clock radio:)

    Hi Gena,
So glad we survived 2007 together! I am thankful for your friendship and that John is back to his honery self! I know 2007 was a tough year for you, but I know 2008 will be better! I am there by your side, through thick and thin, so let's reach our goals of our weight loss together and then we can maintain! Hope the rest of your week goes well. The boys stayed home and Ben hung out with us. We rented the movie "Mr. Bean's Holiday" and it was just as funny the second time! Then we braved the cold and lit off a few legal fireworks and ran back in the house and went to bed. SO it was a nice, quiet evening at home and memories that I will cherish that my boys were home with me! I know I am on borrowed time with them and they will be out of the house soon, so I am trying to cherish all the times together we have. Today we went to "Artist for a Day" and painted together. It was fun! Well, back to work tomorrow, ugh! Well, talk to you soon!

    I slept through New Year's too, I think the only time I ever did that before was when I was pregnant with my dd (and I'm definitely not pregnant now!). I was reading a book and I remember looking at the clock because I was getting tired and it was 11:37pm. My dh said he came upstairs at 11:55 to watch the countdown with me and I was already asleep--book still in my hand! I am working on my New Year's resolutions, but my nutrition goals can be summed up like this: Eat more raw fresh fruits and veggies, and get more exercise. I'll be a bit more specific when I post them in my blog!

I'm still not "perfect" with the holidays. While crazy, I have to eat a few things I got for Christmas (my favorite candy) I am having limited pieces until it is gone. The box, thankfully, was 1 lb. instead of the usual 2 lbs., so that is something. I just can't throw it in the trash, so I will limit it. Once that's gone I'll proceed down the Spark trail as I was before my vacation. Huge damage has not been done and I feel this is just a blip here. I am going to the gym today to treadmill/read, and maybe take a dry sauna to relax. I want to take the tree down today. I'm thinking about getting a pedometer and want to research them on the internet. Some cheap ones don't seem to work well, and there are some moderate ones that you get a cable with and you can download it into your computer. I think it will be interesting to see how much I walk each day -- and that may help me increase it some. I do park on the 2nd floor of the parking garage so maybe I should move up to floor 3 at the first of the year. That could help just a little. I guess a little and a little, and some more little all add up. Anyway, those are the things I'm think about.

    Ahhh heck, who's perfect? Yep, just a small chink in ol' Sparky’s armor. I got so darned much chocolate I ended up having to seal it & freeze it. Oddly enough, it actually works for me to hide it in the back of the freezer, and forget about it. Forget about it until I snap, so it's there to extract one piece, then banished back to the dark recesses of Iceland:)

    I'd love to hear what you find out about the pedometers. I have been interested in getting one, but it seems like they wouldn't work very well on someone my size since there not a clear line between the waistband of my pants and my shoes. I also always wear tunic-style shirts and never tuck, so I think that would interfere, too.

I Did It

While not the biggest things in the world, I did get to the gym last night. It was a mental struggle, but I did it. I planned on going in and treadmilling 20 minutes. I took my book and while reading somehow 35 minutes passed by. It was great and I did have more energy. That's about it for the day. I'll get to the gym one day this weekend.

On the way home.....

As I was driving home from work my brain remembered that I had "promised" I was going to the gym tonight. Amazing how all of a sudden I was too tired, too ......, too whatever. Well I got home and signed on and really thought about this promise to myself and was sort of disgusted that I can promise and promise, but just not carry though. Finally guilt attacked me, so at this very moment I'm planning on really doing what I said I would do. Yes, it is cold outside and I'm snuggled in. I started thinking about it and figured -- what am I going to do -- only go to the gym on perfect Spring days? So, I'm feeling good about forcing myself out of here and to the gym in just a little bit. I will just freak if I have to report tomorrow that I did not go. I am going, I am going.

    I have the same struggles. The only reason I had been getting to the gym on a regular basis before Christmas was because I had to take my daughter there every day, so since I was already there I figured I should exercise. If I wasn't taking her it would be really hard to get motivated to go. I love to take the dog on long walks around the neighborhood or on one of the many trails we have around here, but when it's cold outside I just want to stay in the house and snuggle up. Good for you for sticking to your guns and going back out to the gym!
