Today would have been my parents 66th wedding anniversary. They had a storybook marriage. I have never known any two people as much in love as they were. They simply adored each other and understood "for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do us part". I have been going through more of their boxes today and found so many cards and love letters they sent to one another through their entire marriage.

I remember my mom at the kitchen sink washing dishes and my dad would come up behind her and kiss her neck. They couldn't be in a room together without holding hands. They were so adorable.

Missing them today.

You are truly blessed to have such wonderful memories of your parents. I never once heard nor saw my parents express any sentiment for one another.

I'm so excited!!!!!

Friday, August 10, 2012

This will be my last entry for at least a week. Tomorrow morning I leave for vacation!!

I have been planning this trip for over 6 months now. I am taking my children (21 and 16) on a cruise to Alaska! We are starting in Seattle and then going up the coast from Canada to Alaska.
I can't wait. Even the children are excited (and that's hard to do at their age!)

We have a lot of excursions planned. We will see Victoria Gardens, go to an eagle preserve and zip line over a bear habitat. Yes, I'm doing that too!!

I am not in the shape I wanted to be when we left but it will not stop me from having a great time.

My dad passed away last year and he left me just enough money to take this trip. He would be thrilled that I am using this for family time. He was certainly a family man!

Wish me luck, it's supposed to be pouring rain when we take off. Yikes!!!

OMG, I'm so excited LOLOLOL-

I've been on that cruise too! I think the kids might just fool you and enjoy it -- especially with all the goodies you've included. August is the very best time to go
to Alaska, you'll be surprised how nice and warm it is -- because of course, they
have very little air conditioning.

Sorry about your dad passing away - but what a nice thing to do with the money! The gardens are lovely!

And if you want to splurge on afternoon tea, the downstairs part of the Empress Hotel has a lovely tea - not inside the lobby (snooty and pricey and no jeans), but around the corner and downstairs. It's a nice treat if you have daughters - sons might not be so into afternoon tea.

Enjoy the trip!!!!!

Sometimes it's important to laugh at ourselves!

This past week I went to my usual grocery store. I was astonished at how sloppy the store was and everywhere I went I was walking in puddles of water. I even slipped a few times and nearly fell. I did see people with mops.

Finally, a man with a mop came over to me. He said, "Excuse me ma'am, you have a case of water in your cart that is leaking."

OMG, no wonder there was water everywhere I went!!

I was so embarrassed but was able to laugh at myself. I think it's a blonde thing :)

One step forward, two back :(

Saturday, July 28, 2012

Last week I wrote about how my back seized up on me while on the treadmill. I was really frustrated and was icing it, then heat, then ice etc....

It wasn't getting better and today I got worried and went to the Dr. Turns out my back pain was probably not my back at all but a kidney stone. I am just floored!! I have to have a kidney scan this week.

I am so frustrated. I'm leaving for vacation soon and I was looking forward to a great time with my kids and now, well, I just hope I can go feeling good.

The Dr. still thinks I may have hurt my back some but looks like I have this additional problem. I am not happy :( emoticon

Wow, what a surprise for you! I've known people with kidney stones, though - some people find drinking a ton of water helps flush it out. Painful, yes - complicated, not so much.

Good luck - I hope you feel better soon!!!!

Oh, hugs! With any luck you can get that additional "pain" gone so you can enjoy your time away.

I was doing really well with my exercise. I was managing about an hour a day on the treadmill on days I didn't work.

On Friday, once again on the treadmill, just as I was about to finish, my back seized up. I was in horrible pain. I could hardly walk. For the next 24 to 48 hours I iced it, then heat, then ice. I was hurting.

Finally today, I thought I was well enough to get back on. I managed to to 30 mins. until I felt a twinge in my back. I stopped. I know that even though I want to get back on the horse I'm not going to be stupid about it. I didn't even break much of a sweat :(

I have to work tomorrow so hopefully on Thursday I will feel well enough to do more than today. I'm so frustrated!!!

Did you ever get to a running specialist store and have yourself fitted for new shoes? They will also do a gait analysis. We have a place in Canada called The Running Room that is excellent a determining pronation - under or over etc. and then fitting you for a pair of shoes that works best for your gait.

Just a thought but it worked for my back when I had the same issues as you have now. Oh yes and I also use and OBUSFORME knee pillow shaped like and hour glass. When I sleep it goes between my knees (has that memory foam) and takes the pressure off my back.

Hope you feel better soon emoticon

I've had two back surgeries, so can relate to your complaint. Could you try another form of exercise that is less damaging to your back? I've had two back surgeries, so can relate. Have you tried exercising in the water, either flaps or water aerobics? It's fun! Good luck with your back! Feel better! emoticon

Yeah, check your shoes. Also, sounds like you need to be sure to stretch your back - lie on a bench and do the knee to chest thing, one side and then the other, for 20-30 seconds per side. I do that each morning before I even get out of bed, because I have lower back problems.

How are your shoes? For me, my back will hurt when it is time to replace my running shoes....I need alot of heel support, so when the shoe starts to break down as a result of continual pounding, my back starts to hurt when I run or stand. Just a thought!
