Under the knife....

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

Tomorrow is my foot surgery. I'm not really nervous, I just want it over with. Once again my friend Dawn is coming to the rescue to take me to the surgical center and then home again.

I am so annoyed with the center. They called me at 8:30 this morning and went over everything I needed to know for tomorrow. They told me to be there at 10:15. I called Dawn and set the entire thing up.

At about noon they called to remind me to be there at 10:15 and that I had a co-pay and not to forget to bring it.

Around 1, they called me, laughing and said, "Oh, forget about 10:15 we just changed the surgery to 7:30 am. I was furious. I spent time figuring out the day, asking favors of friends and they just think it's funny?

I just wish people would walk a mile in my shoes before they think things are easy for everyone.

Well, wish me luck. Tomorrow I get my foot fixed! Hooray!

Good luck! Try not to kill them for pulling the junk that they did with the timing.

My life isn't easy. I am a single mom, two kids that can be challenging (see other blogs LOL) but I have friends. Let me tell you about one of them. Her name is Dawn.

A couple of days ago the FedEX guy brings me a package with a gift certificate to "Kindle" in it from Dawn. I thought, hmmmm how odd. Then I thought that I could use this to download books onto her Kindle which I could borrow. That was sweet.

She came over later that day and I thanked her for the gift certificate and said it was sweet even though I didn't own a Kindle. She grumbled something about Amazon being run by idiots and said, "You do now."

OMG, she got me a Kindle (which arrived today along with a case too) AND gift certificate. I'm still in shock, but so happy. No one has given me a gift that brought me to tears in a long time. Talk about thoughtful!

I just downloaded my first book. I can't wait to read it. It might even have an audio function and I can listen to it in the car but that's a long way off. I still have to learn how to navigate this thing!!

I am grateful for a lot of things in life. My children, their good health and my friends. Aren't I lucky to have ones like Dawn?

Pre-op testing

Thursday, December 15, 2011

I went for my pre-op tests today. Sheesh! You would think I was going to have a heart transplant and not bunion surgery. They had all kinds of tests including blood, urine, EKG etc....

Ok, apparently, I am well enough for them to operate on my little toe. I can't imagine what they would put me through if this were something truly serious!!

On a side note, I received the thumb brace with magnets I ordered. I have heard a lot about magnets helping with arthritis so, I thought I'd try it. I'll keep everyone posted on how it works (or if it works).

They put you through those test no matter what kind of surgery you are having. There are risks with all surguries. I know everything will be fine and you will be up running again very soon. Please keep us sparkers informed as to how you are doing. My prayers will be with you.

It's a good day!

Sunday, December 11, 2011

My daughter arrived home from college yesterday. She will be here about a week before she goes to spend a day or two with her dad. Her dad will take her to the airport on Sunday and she is off to Israel for 10 days.

My son is also home this weekend (spends a couple of weekends a month with his dad).

It is the best feeling in the world to have both kids under one roof. This afternoon my daughter and I will do some shopping. She needs shoes (hahahahaha) but I love to go out with her. When we get back I am taking my son over to the animal shelter to do some volunteer work. He loves to run the dogs and they love it too!

I am smiling. It's going to be a great day!

Foot Surgery

Thursday, December 08, 2011

Today I go to the foot Dr. for my final visit before my foot surgery. I am happy and scared at the same time.

I can't wait for my foot pain to be gone. I realize they will be breaking bones in my foot and then putting them back together with little screws. (wonder if I will set off alarms at the airport). There will be lots of pain for a while but once it's over, it's over!!

The surgery is set for Dec. 28th. I figured this was a slow time at work and since I have to take a week off, it would be easier.

I will not be able to exercise for at least 6 weeks. I will barely be able to walk. This worries me but I will try and keep it in perspective....I won't really be able to get to the kitchen either!!!!! LOL

My son gets his cast off in about a week and a half (hopefully) so that's good news too!!!

Good luck and speedy recovery. If they put titanium screws you won't be setting off any alarms at the airports.

In those 6 weeks, you can rededicate yourself to health and then start really going for goal--and you'll work out stronger and without pain after the surgery heals!

I hope you have a speedy recovery! I do set off alarms at the airport since I had shoulder replacement surgery. So it may happen for you with the screws and hardward implanted during surgery! emoticon
