A very happy mom!

I have been having the best day!

First, my great friend Dawn gave me three hours with a personal organizer for my birthday (last year). I finally got around to calling her and she came over yesterday and we worked on my paperwork and wow, I feel like a new woman. I got up today to a neat table. Now I have some new skills that will really help me not get stressed about paying bills and keeping records. Dawn is the best!

Then today, my son asked if he could come with me to my walk at the lake. He wanted me to join him as he practiced throwing the discus. I loved having him with me and we found a great place to practice. He would throw it and I would run after it and see the distance. I got a great workout and had so much fun with my son it really was a pleasure! It didn't even feel like exercise!!

When we got home there was flowers waiting for me from my two kids for Mother's day. They were beautiful!!

Then my daughter called from college to tell me about the formal she is going to next week. The great part is she has a date!! That means that the "old" boyfriend is truly finished and done with. HOORAY!! (he was really bad news).

Now, I'm getting ready to take my son to his baseball game.

Great day...really great day!!

This is great news on several fronts--I'm so glad the organizer worked out. She's great, right? Also glad the old boyfriend is history!!! And of course, wonderful that you got to spend quality time with Joshua. Happy Mother's Day!

More bragging

Josh does it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My son has once again blown away the competition!!

As some of you know he's a great wrestler, fantastic baseball player, incredible golfer but, just a couple of weeks ago he decided to join the track and field team. Ummm, ok, why not? He goes to practice, oh I don't know, maybe half dozen times. Misses the first meet because he had a baseball game.

Yesterday was his first meet. I meet him at the field and I expected him to be running and doing the long jump which was what he told me he was going to do. He tells me, "Na, I'm going to run the 440 and then I'm going to do discus throwing."

Huh?? Discus throwing. "Have you ever done that before?"

He replied, "No, but I can do it. Doesn't look all that hard."

First comes the race. It was with 5 other local schools. He comes in second. We were very happy with that and would have stopped there but no, on to discus throwing.

We stood and watched for a while as some of the kids were taking warm up throws. OMG, that thing is heavy and some of the kids were huge. Naturally, Josh says he doesn't want a warm up, he'll just wing it.

The first really big kid goes and he throws it 64 feet!! Wow, that's really far. Each kid gets 2 tries and I figured this kid was going to be hard to beat. Finally, Josh gets up for his first try. His focus was outstanding. He sets and throws.........................90 feet!! Yup, 90 feet on the nose. Everyone was dumbfounded!!! (especially his mom!)

He was happy and just took it in stride. Now everyone goes again. The other kids pretty much matched what they had done the first time but not Josh. No, Josh decided to amp it up and sets and throws...........104.4 feet!!! OMG! They didn't have a measuring tape long enough to measure it. He may have broken some kind of record at the school and the kicker is HE NEVER DID THIS BEFORE!!

Every modicum of athletic gene in the gene pool of both sides of his parents went into Josh. He just shrugged it off and said, "See, I told you it wasn't hard. I'm hungry."

Gotta love that kid!!!!!!!!!!!

I apologize if I am bragging to much about my son. I am so proud of him and sometimes he is what keeps me going day in and day out.

I would be very worried if you weren't proud and expected even more (not that seems to be much of a challenge for Josh, he is just one of those natural athlete).

Sneaking in exercise

Thursday, May 06, 2010

A some of you may know, I bought a new treadmill that stopped working after two days. I decided to send it back even though they said they would fix it because I realized that a) I didn't trust this machine and b) I also realized I really couldn't afford it at this time.

A couple of days ago my son asked me if he could use it. I told him it didn't work but he insisted on trying. I said, "Knock your socks off. If you can get it to work, be my guest." Of course, he got it to work!! Sigh....

So, today is pick- up day. I had to stay home and wait for the truck so I couldn't do my walk around the lake. Soooo.......I got on the treadmill!! It worked! I managed to do my nearly three miles and even added an incline!!

They are here now, taking it apart and out of my life but hey, I got to work out today when I thought I would have no time to do so as my day is jammed packed with "stuff".

Hooray for me!! I feel great!!! Hopefully, the scale will reflect all this work on Sunday (my weigh in day).

Great timing is everything

Tuesday, May 04, 2010

Had a short day at work today and figured I would walk the lake on my way home. Unfortunately I got stuck in some awful traffic and it put me almost an hour behind. Now, as I was driving home, all I was hearing on the radio was that horrible thunder storms were coming my way and about to get into my county. I throw caution to the wind and go for it. I get to the lake, take out my umbrella and start to walk. I make it all the way around without a drop!! Yay, I did it!

I got back to my car, was putting away my umbrella in the trunk and my phone rang. It was my daughter calling me from college. She has a few days off before her finals and wants to come home and take me out to dinner for my birthday (in a couple of weeks). Wow, that really made me happy.

A walk around the lake, missed the rain and a call from my daughter who wanted to do something nice for about great.

I got off the phone with her started out of the parking lot and the heavens opened up and it started to pour. I was home in 3 minutes, pulled into the garage and felt great!

That's a good day. Hope I have another one tomorrow. It's nice to find that little bit of "me" time!

Congrats on the great day. It's wonderful that you spent your extra time doing something for yourself. The umbrella probably added some arm exercises to the walk. And an early Happy Birthday!

Holding on to the day!

Friday, April 30, 2010

My days seem to keep getting away from me. I start out right but somehow, I get so busy I never get to the things I really wanted to getting out and walking.

Yesterday, I was so busy. I had a dentist appointment, then to the mechanics, then home to wait for them to come to pick up the broken treadmill, then having them come late and telling me they couldn't take it. Then I had to pick up my son, get him fed and changed then off to the ball game. Where was "me" time.

Today is beautiful. I am stuck inside doing paperwork as I wait for the plumber who can't give me an exact time he will be here. It looks as if, by the time he gets here it will be time to go and pick up my son and take him to practice. Maybe, just maybe after that I can get over to the lake and walk it.

Honestly, I'm tired. I need energy to exercise and I need exercise to get some energy. This must be how a dog feels chasing his tail!!

Ok, I'm griping enough. I need to get back to my paperwork. I hate it. Paying bills, filing....yuck! If I had a desk job every day I wouldn't last a week!!!

Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Sounds exhausting! One thing I've learned (or still learning, rather) is that if I don't take time for me, to recover from life's stresses, then something happens to force me into taking a time out. Usually it comes with a higher "price" than if I had just taken a few minutes for me. I wish you well in finding some balance. emoticon

Make a pact with yourself that you'll walk the lake's supposed to be beautiful! I think it's going to be nice throughout next week so there will be many opportunities. Make it as much of an appointment as when you are waiting for repair people--pencil it in and make it sancosanct (sp?). That's YOU time and it belongs to you.

It sure sounds like you have a bit of stress in your life due to things "outside" your control that limit what you want to do. Like waiting for plumbers, repair people that can't do what they promised...I'm rooting for you. Sometimes the me time has to be carved out of odd situations: like maybe when you take your son to practice you get out and just walk around for a few....or you walk up and down your street (so you can watch for that plumber coming)....I don't know. But busy people have to be very creative and pushy about their me best of luck finding time for you. You are worth it.
