Time rushes by!

Saturday, July 18, 2009

It's been a while since I've blogged. I have been so busy it's hard to just keep up with myself.

Yesterday I came home from orientation at the University of Delaware. My daughter will be attending there starting next month. How did that happen? She was just toddling around the house giving me instructions a week ago, wasn't she?

It was very difficult for me I hate to admit. They immediately separated the parents from the kids and we had an entire days worth of information and such. There were times it took every ounce of strength not to burst into tears. This is going to be hard. My child has grown up and is leaving me. Honestly, it's shocking.

My beautiful daughter was amazing. She went off and selected her courses, met with advisers and did everything she needed to do. I could tell she was a little nervous but all in all, just fine (way better than her mom, but she didn't know that!)

Time goes by so fast. I feel like my son just left for camp and tomorrow is visiting day! How can we slow this stuff down????

On a little sadder note, I gained some weight. With all that has been going on in my life I wasn't paying attention and now I'm paying the price. 12 pounds of price. I'm taking action. I've been back on track and have already lost 3 of them. If I stay the course I will be back in the 120's by the first visiting day at college.

This isn't easy all around but as they say, this too shall pass. Life goes on and I'm trying to march along with it. I am posting some new pics from my son's Bar Mitzvah. Please, take a look!

Enjoy your summer!

Gayllynne, I can so feel for you. I know I will suffer great separation anxiety too. As my son is becoming more independent it is harder for me not to be part of his life.

As for the weight gain, it happens when your life gets out of control due to lack of routine/normal day to day stuff. You have been busy with so many major events in your children's lives and having all your family around to share in these milestones.

You have done it before and will do it again.

I can't believe it's over!!! After all that planning and all that work and all that worry, this weekend is over.

It was one of the best weekends of my life. Unfortunately, on Friday night my son's baseball game was rained out. The family really wanted to see that but we ended up meeting for dinner, hugging and just being happy to see one another and be together.

Saturday, the Bar Mitzvah. It started off with a slight drizzle. Then for the ceremony (all outdoors!!!) it cleared up. My son was wonderful, I was so proud. After that it was fun and games in a huge tent. It was a little soggy in there as the ground was so wet from so much rain we've been having but no one cared! We partied and played games and yes, it rained for about 10 minutes and again, no one cared!!! It was just great!!!

I have to say that I looked spectacular! I use that word because it was the word that was said to ME by a friend who hadn't seen me a while (yes, a HE!). My family couldn't get over how I looked and kept asking me how I lost so much weight. All I would say was SPARKPEOPLE!!!! I had so much fun!!!

Yesterday was the graduation party for my daughter. Again, it was held outside and when I got up, it rained all morning!! By the time I picked up the cake and got it to the restaurant, the rain let up, the sun came out and we had the most beautiful day. My daughter was thrilled with the pocketbook I bought her. Something she has been coveting for over a year. Some of her friends were at the party and I get each one of them a little picture frame with "Graduation" on it so I can get a pic of them in their cap and gown and they can have it forever. They loved it too as it was unexpected!!!

Last night, my entire family went to a restaurant in NYC called "Sammy's". It's one of the most fun places on earth. We drink a little to much (they put a bottle of vodka encased in ice on the table) and we danced and danced and danced!! It was the perfect way to end the weekend.

In the end, I hugged my family that was leaving to go back home. They came from as far away as Thailand, San Francisco, Canada, So. Carolina and Michigan. We don't see each other to often but we are still very close. It was bittersweet to see them leave. I miss them already.

I have so much food leftover that we are eating that for the rest of the week (or so) and then I am back here with a vengeance!!!

I'm happy and tired and I took the day off!!! Thank you all for your good wishes!!!

It's almost here!!!

Thursday, June 11, 2009

I have the most incredible weekend ahead of me. It's almost here and I'm so excited.

My son's Bar Mitzvah is on Saturday and my daughters graduation party is on Sunday. I figured I would have that party since everyone is here anyway!!!

Tomorrow we are going out to the cemetery en mass. A great deal of my family will be here and as amazing as it is, it's a year since my mother passed away. We are having the unveiling, meaning they put up the stone on her grave. It will be wonderful to have my family there and we can all say something about my mom. It will give me closure and make the rest of the weekend that much sweeter. I know my mother will be smiling down on my family and especially my children this weekend.

Saturday is the big day. I cannot believe it's here after planning for a year!! My son will have his Bar Mitzvah. Wow, what a huge milestone for him and I'm immensely proud. I love the fact that so much of my family has come from all over the world to be there. We are having it at the camp my son goes to and it will be all outside, even the service!! It looks like the weather will be beautiful and it should be a day that everyone will remember for a long time!! Not many people get to see a Bar Mitzvah outside, over-looking a lake with eagles circling lazily overhead. It's just going to be incredible!!

The following day, we have reserved the deck of a lovely restaurant for brunch. We will be celebrating my daughters graduation from High School!! This too is hard to believe. Wasn't she just toddling yesterday??? Last night she was awarded an Academic Achievement Award at the school which came with a $100.00 check. I'm very proud of her too!!!

As for me, well, I have to admit that I slipped a little. With all that has been going on in my life I kind of slipped back in to bad patterns. I gained about 6 lbs but with a nearly 40 lb loss, I still look great. My family will be floored and according to my daughter, I look "hot" in my dress LOL - we'll see about that.

I will try and post some pics. Keep your fingers crossed for the weather to hold out. I just know it will!!!

Mazel tov on your son's Bar Mitzvah. I was at a B'nai Mitzvah (for a pair of boy-girl twins) this past weekend. What fun!!! And mazel tov also on your daughter's graduation. Where is she going to college? Yes, they do grow so fast. And yes, after a miserable week, I think the weather will be great this weekend. G-d will be shining on you.

Even though my weight loss hasn't been as good as I would like, I was able to wear a much "hotter" dress than I would have hoped. Last time I saw these people (my dad's family in Cleveland) was at a wedding 10 years ago. I wore a tent dress to that one!! This time I wore a little black dress, possibly for the first time ever. Nobody commented on the weight loss, but that's ok. Maybe they don't remember that I was so fat then.

I'm excited about this????

Friday, May 22, 2009

This past week I was at a client's home. I walked past their Dyson vacuum cleaner. It was beautiful LOL - and I know how expensive they are. She asked me, "Would you like it? I'm moving next month and it makes to much noise for the dog."

Would I?? Would I?? Wow, I couldn't believe it. The doorman put it in my back seat and here it sits. I haven't used it yet but I'm excited to have it. I looked it up and the cheapest I could get it was between 4 and 5 hundred dollars!!!!! I've never had such an expensive appliance before. It seemed such a waste of money for me as my Sears canister always worked just fine but now I have THIS!!!

I was walking the lake this morning chuckling to myself about how excited I was to have this. Gosh, maybe I should have admired her diamond ring!!! *smile*
At least the price was right!!!

We have the purple "animal" dyson. It is wonderful. I had a cream colored carpet w/ multi colored squares. We have 3 cats and 1 dog that are all indoor animals. I thought my old vacuum did fine. Then I got the dyson and the first time I used it I swear my carpet looked brand new!! I love it. We've had it now about 4 years and it still works great. So congrats on one great gift!

I have an old Sears canister and the suction is still good but the beater bar is toast. I managed to get a deal on an Eureka standup ($25) and I find it hard on my back. I would like to know how you like it?

I hope you love it as much as my son loves theirs! I know they clean really well but just don't vacuum a wet floor at all with one.. that was how my son broke their first one and Dyson replaced it! I wish I could get one.. with 3 dogs, 1 cat and 6 foster kittens it would come in handy!

baseball mom's bragging

Monday, April 27, 2009

I don't really get the chance to brag about my children all that much but I want to mention my son's game.

He loves baseball and has a real talent for the game. For some reason, they put him on a barely so-so team this year. I told him to hang on because he will be the big fish in the little pond.

Saturday, he had the best game of his life. He went 2 for 3 at the plate, with a total of 4 stolen bases in the game. Both times he was on he came home to score. He also made two spectacular catches in the outfield. I was nearly choking from screaming!!! He had applause from the parents because he was just wonderful.

I'm always proud of him but after that game, I was beaming!!! Any mom whose child plays a sport understands this. He is walking just a bit taller and he was named player of the game hands down!!!

Go Josh!!!!

getting off my soap box now........

Go, Josh, Go! Big pat on the back to your son! As his mom, you must have been positively breathless during the game. That is, when you weren't screaming for joy, at the very top of your lungs!!!!! LOL.

These are great feelings you've described.

Hope the rest of your week is half as stupendous as those moments at the game!

Love, Lisa

PS - I posted a message about the Rockland Women's Shelter 4K - As I told you, with this old knee, I'm no runner, but I'll be walking that event. It's one of those "wonderful time, had by all" experiences.

Wishing you well...

CONGRATULATIONS! I hope your DS keeps it up.

I know how you feel too, my son lived, ate, slept & everything baseball, he was the top pitcher for his league and was told had great potential. Sadly at 16 he took the wrong path in life for a few years and lost it. He knew he blew it and totaly regrets it today. He has grown up and is a wonderful, healthy adult now that misses his baseball playing days.
