How to lose 3 lbs without trying...

Monday, August 11, 2008

Here's the funny thing. I finally set up my Wii Fit. I haven't done much on it yet except a little yoga which I found very had but very rewarding. I'm going to try it every day. It will be helpful with my posture and core strength.

What's interesting is that it weighs you. Whey you step on the board it assesses your balance and weighs you. Yes it said I was overweight but it also said I was three pounds less than my scale said. Since my daughter just went to the Dr. I asked her to get on my scale and tell me if it was accurate. She said no, it was 3 lbs off.

So, what do I do? Do I take the new weight into consideration or do I stick with the old and keep going from there. The thing that concerns me the most is the change it will make in my BMI.

I love the idea that I weigh less than I thought but it doesn't change the way my clothes fit. That will only come from more weight loss and exercise, believe me, I know this.

Any thoughts on how I should proceed??? It's a bit confusing!

    Gayllynne,

I got my Wii Fit last week and LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Do you think I LOVE IT???

I typically work out on the Wii Fit in panties and t-shirt and choose 0 pounds for the weight of my clothes. I find that if I weight myself in the a.m. on my scale and do my Wii Fit in the afternoon that my weight on the WF is higher (duh - I ate two meals and several snacks by then... you're heavier at night than morning, etc.)

I use my scale for my WI's to record on SP. I use the WF as a monitor only... I don't have a BMI measuring device so WF is handy for that.

my BMI went from normal to overweight in one day and then two days later my BMI was normal again. (I'm on the line between the two!)

No matter what the WF or the scale says, you KNOW you're healthier than before.... enjoy that fact as often as you can!

    I'm jealous!

I want a Wii Fit, too! I've played the boxing and tennis games (love them) but I haven't gone to the trouble of getting the fit game. It sounds fun.

As for which number to use, I would probably still use the higher number - but it won't make much of a difference in the end. Except that we could all say "Woo Hoo, you lost 3 pounds!" You are too cute... and so honest!
Have a great week!

I don't know anything about the WII Fit, but I hear that many people just love it.

As for the difference in the scale, that is not unusual. I had two scales once and they read differently at different times one day scale 1 would be nice and say I was lower by a pound or two then the next weigh in it would be the reverse? The doctors office had the most efficient scales but who can go there every week for a weigh in?

Regardless you know by how you feel and the tape measure would agree.

I had found that when I hop on the Wii Fit I need to set it as 0 for the weight of my clothes in order for it to say the same as my home scale. I also notice that everytime I workout & it does the balance test that my balance is much better then if I go a day or 2 without working out. I love the hula hoop too, you can deffently feel it when your doing it.

I love my WII Fit! I have had it for a little over a week and it kicks my butt. I love all of the exercises and have beaten both of my teen boys scores!! It really is a workout and I am sweating like a dog when finished.

Don't you love for the scales to be in your favor!!

Way to go and good luck.

I'm stuck...

Saturday, August 09, 2008

I have been at 136 for what seems like forever. Just one more pound and I can declare that I've lost 30 lbs! But dang it, it just never seems to go there.

The truth is that I completely understand what's happening. Although I have been pretty good with my calorie intake I have been lax about getting off my butt. All those previous months where I lost 5 lbs every month I was moving. I just got lazy.

Yesterday, I decided that I wanted to get those last 10 or 12 pounds off of me badly!!! I am going to a reunion in Feb. and I want to look fantastic. I already know that I look so much better but I think reaching goal will be a wonderful achievement and I want it. So...........

I started moving again. Two days in a row I walked the lake. If I get the chance either later this afternoon or tomorrow, I am going to figure out how to put together the Wii Fit and start doing even more. You will know that I've achieved my goal when that darn sign changes from Lost 25 to Lost 30.

By the end of Aug. I guarantee it!!! You can take that to the bank!!!

You go, girl! Walk that lake... because I'm waiting on that NY shopping trip that we are going to take.

And I need a kick in the rear - I'm so off-track with the exercise. And cookies have become a mainstay in my diet... so bad!

You are doing great!

It sounds like you have a plan there Gayllynne! Let us know how the Wii fit goes. My kids are wanting to get it for me. I've been stuck thinking about how it tracks weight. I'm not at the place of wanting to broadcast that info to my family & friends. :-) Do you know if you can you keep it private?

From what I understand though, it will have you sweating up a storm - a sure fired way to knock off the last of the poundage!

He's got a girlfriend!!

Monday, August 04, 2008

Wow this growing up stuff sure is hard! Not for them, for me!!!

I went to visit my son at camp yesterday. I always look forward to parents day because it seems such a long time away. My son looked taller and leaner than I've ever seen him. So handsome (yes, I'm a mom!!)

So, we are sitting eating a picnic lunch that I've brought. All his favorites including homemade chocolate chip cookies (I didn't even have one). We are sitting there talking and laughing and this cute little girl comes over. My son introduces her as "Alexa" and then excuses himself and she takes him to meet her parents!!

OMG, his first girlfriend!!! I knew this day would come but I'm less prepared than he. While we were sitting there several girls came by and hugged him and said what a great friend he was and offered him some of their mom's home cooking etc....

Finally, he turns to me and says, "Relax mom, I'm just very popular."

Yes, I could see that. My little boy (who is a head taller than me at 12 1/2) is growing up so fast. His girlfriend lives near us and they already have a movie date for when they return. Of course, he asked that his sister take them. I'm just to momish!

I think I'm still in shock!

Oh, wow! Youngsters in love... and kicking their parents to the curb. It does smart a bit doesn't it? Thankfully, I've liked all the girls that my sweet boys have liked. And I'm doubly thankful for the fact that they haven't gotten too serious too soon.

Good luck with all that!

I will be ok mom! it is hard to see them leave childhood and become adolescents but that is the job we took on. dating is great and a lot of dating helps our young ones make good choices later on. if you son is popular with girls he is not just good looking is is also a nice guy (more important)

I have two boys now in college and I know exactly how you feel. It is a shock at first, but it's all part of growing up. Look at it this way, your son obviously has some good qualities or he wouldn't have made so many friends. I have always loved getting to know my son's friends and girlfriends and have loved watching them all grow up. I like nothing more than to have my kids and their friends at home laughing and cutting up it makes our home seem so "alive."

Gayllynne, with the blog title, I thought you were going to talk about your blind date, lol.

Yes, they do grow up so fast (too fast). I am glad to hear that your son is having a great time at camp.

I am not prepared as of yet for my son to have an official girlfriend, lol. He likes one girl from school, but she is not interested. But then, a new school year is coming up?

I'm baaack!

Saturday, August 02, 2008

I'm back from my hectic week in NYC with my daughter. It was nice to be in the city and not have to worry about the commute to work. I got to sleep an extra hour every day. That's a perk!!!

Watching my daughter getting up and dressed for work and just navigating the city every day was quite an eye opener. She is really maturing and I'm so proud of her. At 17, she has a really great head on her shoulders.

We did have a lot of fun too. She is very, VERY into designer clothes and such but I just can't afford them so..... we went to lots of consignment shops. It wasn't until the very last one we went to that we found GOLD!!! LOL - Her favorite designer is Juicy Couture. Very expensive stuff but at this place she got 5 different things of Juicy including a brand new pocketbook which she loves!!! I spent under $150. for all 5 combined!!!! Now that's a bargin!!! She's happy, mom's happy (and exhausted) and then it was off to dinner with old friends.

We went to see "A Chorus Line" on Broadway and it was wonderful. I had seen it when it first opened and didn't really like it but this time it was great. She enjoyed it too.

It's good to be home again and sleeping in my own bed. My greatest fear was the scale. Yes, I did gain. One pound. Yup, one little pound that could be anything (water, natural flux of weight, whatever). I'm so proud that I managed to really stay on target even if I wasn't able to count calories. Whew!! It was tough but I did it.

Oh, and the date wasn't to bad either. emoticon

As I was reading your blog (glad you had a great time with your daughter), I was wondering when you were getting to the blind date. Had a good laugh the way you finally entered a small part at the end. So are you going to have another date?

My mini vacation

Monday, July 28, 2008

For the past month my daughter has been working as in intern in a design firm in the city. (NYC). I take her into the city on Monday mornings with me and she goes to her job and I to mine. In the evening she stays with her dad who lives in the city and towards the end of the week I take her home with me in the evening. It's been working out great.

Well, this past week her dad left for Europe for a wedding in London. My daughter still wanted to work so we are going into the city this afternoon and saying there for the rest of the week. We will both work but afterwards we are going to go shopping and meet friends for dinner etc. It's like a little vacation for me and we are both going to have so much fun. I've even got tickets to see "A Chorus Line" on Thursday night.

This will be a lot of fun and a great bonding time for the two of us. I even have a blind date in the middle of all this. Wish me luck!!!!

Oh, you're going to have a blast! I miss NYC. I grew up in Poughkeepsie, but it's been since years since I've been to the city. It's sort of hard, living in TX, despite the fact that my parents have a time share in a great location.
