Been away for three weeks....

Saturday, April 06, 2013

First, I want to thank the many Spark friends who took the time to wish me a happy birthday. It was a wonderful day, Easter, and I spent the day with my son, his wife and my two beautiful grandchildren, Spencer and Ainsley. They made me a Chocolate Mousse Cake and we had an Easter egg hunt for the kids. They live in the mountains in Virginia, so internet is not always available. My Sparking has been limited. However, while I was there we had a snow of 6 inches and even made a snowman! For a Florida girl, this was a special treat. Anyway, thanks for all the birthday and Easter wishes! Hope everyone had a great Easter!

By the way, it snowed again there yesterday, but today it was warmer in Roseland, Virginia than it was here in Gainesville, Florida! How odd is that?

That sounds like Indiana! My friends were up here from Georgia one year and it snowed like a foot, then later in the day they were outside playing in the snow without coats! Crazy!

Strict Sparking....

Sunday, January 13, 2013

Since the fall, after a heart procedure and some traveling and family visits during the holidays, I have had a hard time Sparking with consistency. My new goal is to Spark for a few weeks with strict calorie counting and strict fitness routines of visiting the fitness center at least three times per week, plus my at home daily fitness routine of 10 minutes of cardio work out. I hope this gets me back into my Spark routine, as I have added a couple of unwanted pounds that seem to go and come. I can't seem to get back where I was early last fall. I will do this! emoticon

Wishing you all Spark success too!

Check with your cardiologists about the meds you are taking. Following stent placement about 9 months ago mine added a beta blocker along with a blood thing and I've gained 10 lbs since then despite strict adherence to my diet (1200-1500/day) and regular exercise. Some meds, particularly heart meds do cause weight gain, usually just 3-4 pounds. We're still trying to find a med that will be effective without the weight gain.

Also be sure your cardiologist is aware of the weight gain because sometimes it is due to congestive heart failure. emoticon

I too, have added a few pounds and am also having a little difficulty staying on track with my eating, BUT like you I have a plan and am going to keep on keeping on!

I wish you continued success on your journey!!!

Old habits return...

Monday, December 03, 2012

Last week I said I was going to quick tracking and go to fast track. Well, that didn't last, I am so used to tracking that I tend to track anyway. So now I think my new process will be to track most meals on most days and leave it at that. I must like tracking.... I must say that it is a comfortable feeling to know how many calories you are consuming.

Tracking keeps me accountable and in control. Whenever I get away from it, I feel out of control and the pounds creep back up. Tracking works!

New days new ways....

Monday, November 26, 2012

I have reached my original goal weight and adjusted it down twice in the past year. My weight seems to stay around 5 pounds over my latest goal. However, this is 5 pounds under my original
weight goal made when I joined Spark a little over two years ago. All this being said, I think it is time I spread my wings a little and go to fast track. This will be a trial for me during the holiday season. If I am able to maintain my weight as it is now, I will be satisfied and know that I have made a permanent change in my eating habits. This is definitely the hardest time of the year to maintain a steady weight, so if I am able to be successful, I will know I have made the complete change. However, I weigh each morning, so if the weight starts creeping back on, it will be back to tracking immediately. Hope each of you is having a healthy and successful holiday season! emoticon
