Yay Monday is here!

Monday, March 11, 2013

I love Monday's, guess I'm weird but I'm a stay at home wife and soon to be foster mother and I love it when hubby drives away to work and I can have the house to myself. Today I am prepping some new cloth diapers I got in the mail, these are for the foster baby that we will get someday, I found them on a diapering co-op group and they were so cheap, much cheaper than I could sew them. I'm excited! I love to sew cloth diapers and it was super fun to order some and see all the cute prints and adorable designs.

My Mom is moving from Washington be near my sister in Albuquerque and my sisters are destashing her craft room in preparation for the move. I am the lucky recipient of a huge box of Mom's yarn! The box was $60 to ship and it is crammed full of amazing yarns. Mom did not skimp on yarn shopping sprees and there are some amazing finds in this box. I am in the process of putting the like balls into clear bags to store in boxes.

Besides all this fun stuff I'm also looking forward to the big finale of the Bachelor one TV indulgence! A carry over from when I lived with my daughter 4 years ago, we watched every episode together religiously.

You all have a great Monday, catch up with you tomorrow.

I made the worst vegan gluten free pancakes ever!! lol

I thought I'd try this highly acclaimed recipe from the blogger that has a huge following. I was so excited about trying her recipies and boy oh boy did I waste a lot of perfectly good ingredients...not only were they awful but in the process of looking at the recipe on my iPad I ended up bumping the pure maple syrup on my precious iPad and all over my beautiful cover....I was really ticked.

The rest of today has to go better...

Little of This and That today....

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

Sooo happy that we have our last Sexual Abuse class tonight. We've been taking supplemental foster/adoption classes every Mon and Wed for the past 4 weeks and it is getting a bit old..haha We really do enjoy the classes and meeting other foster parent couples but it is a very long drive in for class in Lousiville, 45 miles one way and then we get out at 9 and we of course have that long drive home too. But with that said, we've learned so much and now we are very aware of what to look out for in having kids in our home, what NOT to do and what NOT to let only one kid in the bathroom at a time, even to just wash hands before meals, only one kid per bed, even if they are siblings of the same sex and are legally allowed by the state to sleep in the same big bed. Stuff like that.

I joined Spark Coach today, hopefully it will give me some accountability for what I do all day. I can do only 5-8 min at a time on our elliptical machine so I have to have some spuring on! lol! I'm on the free plan, we will see if I continue if it is very expensive.

I'm working on learning to crochet my first amigurami toy...this one is a cat and it is super far I'm doing skills are fun. This cat is bright blue and has a little outfit crocheted in the and pink...very fun stuff!

You all have a super duper day!

Fun day with the respite kids

Saturday, March 02, 2013

We take in respite babysitting, which is just babysitting for other foster parents so they can run errands, have a night out or maybe take a trip without their foster kids. We have had the same 4 sibling group all this past fall and now winter, we have a blast with these 4 kids.

Last night we had 3 of the 4 spend the night. My grown daughter had put together a great donation of junior girls clothes and one of these kids that we had last night is 10 and she had a blast trying on super cute clothes. She is taking home a huge stuffed bag of some adorable outfits. These are clothes from Aeropostle, American Eagle, Hollister, the really super cute expensive stuff. It was shear joy watching her come out with all these adorable skirts and sweaters, little summer tops, shorts, just everything a little 10 yr old could want.

This is the joyful part of foster/respite work. Little does this great little foursome know but we have been told they may be sent back to Florida to live with their grandfather in the next couple of weeks....a not so nice man. But that is another story. Today we will be happy to have them with us and enjoy the company of these kids. We will sure miss them when they travel on to their next destination.

You all have a super Saturday!

To give, is to feel glory! You giving your time and energies is so kind! I am sure the other parents truly appreciate what you do.

Teenysmom- I'm glad to hear you can take advantage of respite services and get a break. Sometimes our families tell us that they just sleep!

emoticon Di. Your doing an emoticon job with your foster/respite kids. Keep up the emoticon work. emoticon

My mentally challenged disabled youngest DD goes to respite care twice a week, 4 hours each time. As Di said, it is designed to give the parents a "time out", to do something for themselves. Even if it is just going back home and sitting & vegging out. I don't get to do that, as I still have my physically disabled DH to take care of, but it is nice to know that DD is having a good time and being takencare of for a bit.

You are awesome!!! I am totally impressed with people like yourself who give so much of your time to help young children who have less than desirable circumstances! Keep up the good work. I feel guilty worrying about my own issue,s when there a lot of needy individuals. We must care for ourselves before we can help others! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Another sexual abuse class tonight--ugh

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

We are taking a series of 4 sexual abuse classes for additional credit hours for our foster/adoption certification. The first class was Monday and it wasn't too bad, but I truly dreaded going. These instructors have many years of experience and they generally tell you really interesting stories. This lady is no exception, she's fostered over 500 kids in the last 30 years. But her stories are a bit too graphic for me and I was really happy to get out of that 3 hr class. She is teaching all 4 classes in the series and tonight she teaches on how to tell the signs in your foster/adoptive child.

On a spark people happy note I did 10 min on the elliptical yesterday!! That's huge for me as I have Dystonia, a movement disorder and generally can do about 130-150 steps on that machine and I'm done. I took it slow and it was pretty fun and the feeling of accomplishment was awesome!! So today I'm rockin Wednesday, going to try for 10 min again and going to try to have an upbeat attitude about this class tonight.

Happy day Spark friends!

TThe sexual abuse classes can be very hard to sit through. During Nursing school, we had 3 weeks of class on the subject. As an abuse survivor, for me it was very very difficult to watch the videos or do open discussions on the subject. The videos and stories are SO graphic.
SO, I commiserate with you, but once it's done, it's done!! Same with the exercise, once it's done for the day, it's done!! You can do this, one step at a time. Keep pushing your limits, but don't injure yoursself.
