Late night snacking

Friday, July 27, 2012

It's hot here as always in the late summer and after working from home all day I just seem to collapse in a heap. I have some little projects, nothing that counts as exercise. My latest struggle is with late night snacking. We eat dinner early (4:30 - 5:00 pm) and about 7pm I start "grazing". So tonight, I'm going for a walk with my DH in the evening instead of sitting and eating.

What a great way to connect at the end of the day, walking and chatting together. Great for your health AND your relationship.

Great plan! Wonderful to have your husband go with you, too. Enjoy it!

It's hard to break habits and grazing was one of mine too. I think your plan to go for a walk is an awesome one! I hope you have a lovely walk.

300 miles!

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Today I crossed the 300 mile mark walking/jogging for 2012. That averages out to about 10 miles a week or 1.05 miles per day. I can do better than that now but if you had asked me back in January I would have said no way! My goal was originally 10 miles a week and I upped it to 12 miles in June. I had a few bad weeks in a row this summer where I just couldn't get motivated. That's passed finally and I'm back on track. I'd like to aim for 500 miles for the year which would require 1.3 miles per day the rest of the year - very doable!

Rewarding myself part 2

Monday, July 23, 2012

I blogged about this before (http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_
journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4793767). I've realized though that while retirement may be a worthy reward, it's a ways off. I need some shorter term rewards. It has to be something I really want but won't get until I achieve some goals. I have to think on this.

This is a very good question--I think the idea of a reward can be a good motivator. I'm so spoiled that I usually just buy myself whatever I want (within reason...lol), but I've been holding out on ordering some fitness tubes and bands until I can track my food all the way through for two weeks solid. I set myself this goal back a couple months ago....so as you can see...this is an area I'm working on. I'm two days into it now and hoping to finally be on a roll. I want those tubes!

That would be a very good "question of the day" for the group!

What are the 'things' that need to be in place before you can retire? Save an extra $xx per month for xx months? What will you do with your time once you retire? Most people don't plan that part - just the "I'm not working any more!" part. It's important to start the hobbies/activities before that to prove to yourself it's really what you want to do. Maybe you can build some goals around the preparation for retirement.

The new fitness tracker

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

I tried this when it first came out but was leaving on a trip so I stayed with the old version. What is your impression? Does it keep track of your mileage goals? Do you use the pedometer feature? It seems from the tutorial that they've made it work more like the nutrition tracker.

p.s. thanks for your kind words over my being sick - all better now and drinking lots of water to stay hydrated.

Once I moved my routine to a group on the new tracker I am fine with it. It is more like the nutrition tracker and I like having values for ST since I do so much of it. I wish they would let me put 90 minutes for ST instead of 60 since I do 90, but can't have everything.

I love the new fitness tracker I can finally group my workouts and only having to click once to put them all in. Glad your feeling better.

down for the count

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

whoa, Sunday came down with food poisoning and spent all day Monday in bed. Not fun, but the dehydration knocked a few pounds off! I know its just water weight but its fun to see a new number after feeling crummy.
