My second day without the cigarettes has been....well I'm not going to sugar coat it....UGLY! emoticon
After waking up every hour through out the night I finally decided to throw in the towel and give up around 4:45am so needless to say I'm tired. emoticon
Did not wake up in the most pleasant of moods even though I slept with the patch on to avoid that first morning crave which is the worst for me. DH has no idea what my issue is since he doesn't know I quit, no even sure he knew I smoked since I blew my longest quit back in 2007.
All he knows is I'm in a mood and was yelling and slamming things not long after I woke up.
I woke up hungry so I ate breakfast about 2 hours earlier than normal and I have to say I really haven't stopped since. Although I was eating ok foods, strawberries, lara bars and ezikiel bread this afternoon that all went downhill. It's the last day for half price Frappaccino's at starbucks so of course that's where I headed.
400 calories for a drink! Of course now I feel guilty for the self sabotage but that's something I'll have to work on tomorrow because right now I'm doing all I can to hang onto this quit. emoticon

Good luck-it's really hard to quit. You can do it-when I quit (20 months ago) I learned how to knit-it helped me sooo much in the beginning. I was really frustrated all the time and could take it out on something not living. ;)

I have not had a cigarette in 38 years! But I WAS up over 2 packs some days. So take it from me, you CAN do it. There will be times in the future that you will want a cigarette but just know, you are so much better off without them. Yell, scream, holler, curse a little if you must, just step away from the cigs. And consider us all your support group, your AA sponsors if you will. Your Spark sisters and brothers are just a click away if you need us to talk you off that ledge.

I'm cheering you on and working up towards my quitting. I really do know how hard it is. Twice in my life I quite for extended periods and am trying to get back there again. So I admire you for working it,.

I have never smoked so I can't say that I understand what you're going through. One thing I know though, is that tomorrow is a whole other day. Today was today, it was tough, okay, it happens. See how tomorrow goes, give yourself the opportunity to succeed and like for everything else, take it one day at the time.

WHen I quit last July, the first few days were the worst. I thought my husband was going to die. As was everyone else around me.

Just breathe and remind yourself that you DO NOT NEED taht cigarette.

You CAN do it.

Never quit quitting

Saturday, May 14, 2011

I quit smoking today and started the Engine 2 diet. I am making the effort not to gain weight this quit because it has been a trigger in the past to give in and go back to smoking. As crazy as that sounds, I'm not to proud to admit it.
I joined a very supportive spark team and another online support group to help me make this quit the last.
I really want/need to quit because I've noticed lately the damage that it is doing to my body and the total control it has over every aspect of my life. The freedom from this horrible habit will be reward enough. I cannot wait until the day that smoking doesn't cloud my every thought. emoticon
Over the next few days while I'm nurturing this quit, I plan to eat plenty of fresh emoticon emoticon and emoticon emoticon. Spend alot of my time reading emoticon because I find it very therapeutic.
Starting next week I will start to emoticon emoticon emoticon
I have stocked up on the nicotine patch, the inhaler (I use that in car which is a major trigger) some crunchy veggies and some St John's Wart for the mood/stress levels.
I will do everything my power to protect this quit and make it stick.

I totally understand and am battling that nasty habit myself. I am almost ready to try to quit again but not quite mentally. I hate what it's doing to my health and I hate what it's costing me in money too. Good luck and sounds like you have a great plan. I have to get myself in gear to do the same.

A Week in Review March 27th - April 2nd

Saturday, April 02, 2011

Absolutely insane week at work but still a spark success
My eating
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
I didn't have time to cook last Sunday for the week so I bought alot of prepared vegan dishes from Whole Foods. But by the time I got home from work or school I was famished and didn't always make the right decisions.
I have been drinking alot of smoothies for breakfast though. A sparkfriend has been posting her wonderful smoothie recipes daily in her blog so I was trying them out. Now I'm addicted. I actually feel a difference on the mornings that are too hectic to make them. I find that I'm more sluggish and I get hungry faster during the morning if I don't get my smoothie in. I never would have thought that I would put kale in a smoothie but she has opened my eyes to a whole green smoothie world and I'm loving it!
My workouts
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
I had a chance to workout with my trainer friend at lunchtime twice this week which I didn't think was possible with all the craziness at work. I am so grateful for him, he pushes me way beyond what I think my limits are and way past the point I'd push myself yet I always seem to do it which leaves me with a great sense of achievement.
I found another yoga studio that I love that is close to my job, so now I have one near my home and near work, so I can attend class no matter where I am. After nearly 3 months of not attending a yoga class, I feel like I'm starting over from scratch and I've lost some of my flexibility but it was a wonderful feeling getting back to it. I vow never to go that long without yoga again ( even if I have to do it at my desk!)
The result
emoticon
I lost one pound this week. I was disappointed with the lack of movement on the scale this morning but every pound down is a success. I know that I have to make better food choices this coming week.
Goals for next week
emoticon emoticon emoticon
I will be cooking again tomorrow for the week and packing my lunches everyday, which I didn't get to do last week. I wish there was a way I could pack my blender and just make smoothies. Hmm I could make smoothies for the entire office. emoticon
I'm pretty sure that work should be calmer this week (then again I think that every week and something always blows up!) I should be able to make it to the gym with my friend during lunch 3 times this week.
I'm planning on making it to yoga class Monday, Tuesday and Friday evenings, I'd go every night but I'm in class Wednesday and Thursday. I'll be taking my first Hot Yoga class this week, I'll come back and let you all know how it went.
Have a great week everyone, thanks for reading

Way to go! A one pound loss is really great - people who are successful at not only losing weight, but keeping the weight off usually only lose 1/2 - 1 pound per week.

I'm interested in these green smoothies, I'm always looking for a way to get more dark greens into my diet. So good for you!

A week (on vacation) in review March 13-19

Saturday, March 19, 2011

Why is it vacation weeks go by so fast? I had a great time in Tampa, weather was outstanding! 80+ degrees everyday, beautiful sunny days with a light gulf breeze. Went to see the Yankees in spring training, wonderful stadium felt so close to the field and I got some great pictures!
Eating? UGH! I did try to behave, I couldn't find any vegan (or vegetarian) items on any of the menus so I stuck with chicken and turkey when possible.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
Needless to say, I gained weight almost 3 pounds! And I feel horrible, very sluggish and run down. I spent most of today just laying around, doing some laundry and grocery shopping for the week.
I plan to get right back on the horse, I have all the things I need to spend tomorrow cooking my vegan meals for the upcoming week. I look forward to eating better and feeling better because this stinks!
Workouts? Well besides walking around Tampa and Clearwater there were no workouts either. I guess that's why they call it vacation, the only sweating I did was laying in the sun next to the pool with drink in hand.
emoticon
Well vacation is over, back to reality. Looking for great results this week!!

Vacations are a great way to help us keep life and our journey in perspective. Last year when I went on vacation I too gained weight.......but after two weeks of just getting back on track I lost the gain and a couple pounds more. So YOU are heading in the right direction. Have yourself a great week.

A review of my week March 6-12

Saturday, March 12, 2011

Phew! And what a week it was, you know how crazy it is the week before your vacation!
My eating
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
I would have to say I ate 95% vegan this week, I prepared all of my meals again on Sunday which is working out really well for me. I plan to do this every Sunday, it's actually alot easier getting it all done in one day then cooking every night. It takes about 3-4 hours each Sunday but as long as I have no other important plans it's worth giving up a Sunday afternoon.

My workouts
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
I worked out 4 times this week, I really want to pick up the pace here a bit and get to 250 fitness minutes per week. I did the Jillian Michaels 6 week 6 pack workout, some cardio on the elliptical machine and worked out with my personal trainer buddy who really puts the burn on! He doesn't let me slack off or catch my breath for a second during the hour we are together, which is great but then I am so sore the next day that I don't do any exercise. But....it's working!

The result
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
Lost another 1.4 pounds this week (and it's that TOM), that's a total of 5.2 pounds in two weeks!!! My goal for the month was 8 pounds, I think I may need to increase this. Of course I am going on vacation for 4 days but I plan to get my workouts in and eat as good as I can. Probably won't be 100% vegan but it will still be vegetarian since I have the digestive issues.
Best part of my week.... I went clothes shopping to get some new capri's for vacation and I'm back to single digit pant size!! So happy I did a little dance in the dressing room. emoticon

Next goal
emoticon
Not to lose momentum while on vacation
Lose 10 pounds by March 31st
Increase fitness minutes to 250 per week which would give me 1000 for the month
