I think one of the reasons I slagged so much in October was because I didn't set any goals. I need them to keep me motivated! So even though this is a few days late, here are my goals.
-run 3x a week, building up to running 5 miles at a time [although that specifically is a goal for the end of the year, not the end of the month]
-use treadclimber 3x/week
-go for walk outside at least 2x/week
-basic strength training [pushups, crunches, squats, etc.] 2x/week
-lose 5 pounds this month
-only drink alcohol twice [election day and Thanksgiving]
-burn 4000 calories/week
-accumulate 2500 fitness minutes
-only get takeout 2x/week [working at the library has left me exhausted so I've been relying on this much more than usual]
-blog 3x/week [whether on here, my other blog, or a combination of the two]
And, for those of you who missed it and were curious, I reviewed my treadclimber on my off-site blog: fuchsiagetsfit.blogspot.com/2012/11/
Here's to a great November!

If I stay on track for the rest of the week, I might *actually* have a loss for the first time in over a month! Which is pretty exciting. I've been working hard this week and I guess it shows. I mean, I've been keeping track of everything for the last few weeks but overindulging in food a little and not exercising a lot. I fell off of my running schedule so I'm trying to get back to that [I went running on Tuesday, and I'm going to go just after finishing this]. I've also been walking a lot. So I'm getting back into the swing of things, but right now I feel like I'm running alongside the wagon instead of actually being on it. I think the final piece is getting back into the social aspect of sparkpeople, so... here I am!
I started volunteering at my local library, Tuesday was my first day and it was so much fun! I had a 20 minute walk there [and back] plus I was on my feet all afternoon [I got put in charge of circulation! Just two hours into my first shift!]. That'll be nice for exercise, and also to keep me from holing up in my house for the entire winter. And maybe I'll actually meet people from the city and make some friends! The director is a total dork and even though I started out really shy, he got me laughing pretty quickly and then I was fairly comfortable. And the children's librarian is a cat lover and also a geek [she knows loads of Star Wars trivia, and wizard rock!] so that's awesome. The other woman [who was training me] didn't seem to have much of a personality at all but... eh. And there was another guy who was there for a couple hours and started chatting with me before he left, but I was still feeling shy at that point so I didn't really get to know him. But still. That's more people than I'd met all year!
My aunt said a while back that I could have her treadclimber but never got around to disassembling it and bringing it over. Well, she called me up today and said that she was taking it apart at that very moment and would be bringing it by today or tomorrow [she called later to confirm it would be tomorrow]. Yay! I'm so excited! I can't wait to try this out, because this is something I'd never even *heard* of until she mentioned it. Apparently the speed doesn't go up high enough for running [only up to 4 or 4.5mph, depending on the model] but it'll be good for reading while working out [or watching tv], and getting exercise in during the winter. There might even be a way to set it up to do computer things while walking on it, like a treadmill desk, I'll have to see. So I'm really excited about that!
I'm a *bit* worried about how much space it'll take up in my exercise room, especially with regards to having enough space to do my workout DVDs, but I'll deal with that when it happens. After all, I set up the exercise room with this machine specifically in mind so I'll make it work somehow.
I did some other blogging yesterday. My friend asked about a month ago how I started running [because she knew that it was a long process for me before I actually started *running*] so I wrote up a [long, rambling] blog post about that for her. It's posted on my other blog: fuchsiagetsfit.blogspot.com/2012/10/
how-i-became-runner.html She said she's been really inspired by my story and this will be helpful when she finally feels ready to start. She'll have my support whenever that happens. I've also sent her more specific tips about getting started with exercise in general [since she's adverse to exercise at all] so maybe she'll find a good starting point that works for her.
Ummm, yeah. I know I've mostly just written about the past few days but honestly, there's not much to say about the "missing weeks" before that. I wasn't doing much of anything, one way or another, in terms of fitness. I wasn't horrendously off plan [except that day I made homemade jelly-filled donuts and then at them all, but I more than paid for that in stomach pains] but I wasn't amazingly on plan either. Just kind of floating on. But now I'm back and I swear it's for real this time.
Time to go get ready for a run! It's perfect weather, too, sunny and 60 degrees. I better take advantage of this while it lasts.

End of the month weigh-in and measurements today. As I said last week, I wasn't looking for a huge change... I was happy if I could just maintain for the month, and get my focus back. And, well, I'm happy to report that that's what I did! My weight at the beginning of September was 177; today I weighed in at 176 [my lowest weight over the entire month was 175.5 so even still, I didn't backtrack much at all]. I even managed to lose inches, despite completely slacking on exercise. A half inch lost in my waist, hips, and upper arm each. Yay!
I've also gotten my eating back on track, which has really helped. I was still having some knee pain until mid-week, and then I had [still do!] sore calves because I forgot to stretch after a run... but I've been walking a bunch and just being active in general more than I usually am. I'm at my mom's house for the week, I'm painting a couple rooms while she's off in Aruba, so that's keeping me on my feet a lot. I'm excited for life to get back to its regular schedule next week but until then, at least this week's not busy and stressful like most of September was.
So, I'm happy that I managed to maintain and *cannot* wait to get back to a regular exercise schedule [I haven't been to the gym in two weeks!]
Oh, and one more thing... I finally fit into an old pair of pants so I've been wearing them! Now, if you don't know, I haven't worn pants in years. It's a combination of just finding skirts more comfortable [and unique], and the fact that none of my pants fit. When I started gaining weight again, I *refused* to buy new pants. Unless I'm skinny, no pants have ever fit me correctly [this is what happens when you have no hips whatsoever and all designers assume that all women do]. Trying to wear pants at a heavier weight just leads to tears and frustration. So I stopped buying pants and have just been wearing skirts for quite a few years now [I LOVE skirts!]. Buuuut, my size 11 khakis fit again so I've been wearing them! Yay!
[Sidenote, I really hate how sparkpeople makes the images sooooooo small!]
One pair of pants down... about 10 more to go.

The wedding's over and I can finally get back to "regular life", which means back to healthy eating and exercising. So, I faced the scale today. I'm up 5 pounds from two weeks ago [but I'm convinced that that week's weigh in was a fluke anyway]. Honesty? Not bad. My goal was to stay under 180 and I didn't accomplish that... but just by fractions of a pound. I will take it. And I know that some of that weight isn't "real" weight gain [I did not eat that many calories!] and my body just needs to even out. So I'm hoping to be back to 177ish by next Sunday. Which means that I will have essentially maintained for the month of September, and I'm not upset about this at all. I want to be down to 170 by the end of October but we'll see where the number falls next week to give me a starting point.
Aside from being busy with wedding stuff, my exercise really fell by the wayside this week... but it wasn't my fault! I hurt my knee while out running on Sunday [just a minor thing, but it acted up for a few days] so I had to put everything on hold for the first half of the week. And then Wednesday was last minute preparations and rehearsal, Thursday I actually had to take my aunt to the doctor's along with getting my nails done, etc. and then Friday was the wedding. Yesterday I was so exhausted that I spent most of the day sleeping and the rest of the day too tired to move, so I just played Zelda. :) Anyway, I'm certain that the lack of exercise also contributed to my temporary weight gain but now my knee's feeling better and life has calmed down. So, time to start running again!
Yesterday I also spent getting back on track, spark-wise. I logged my food for the first time in days [maybe all week?], read some articles, and just collected sparkpoints for various things to get myself back in the habit. And I can confidently say that I am ready to kick this week's ass! LET'S GO!
