20th of december - I wonder..-

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

How to add and get points for strength training? It is not a problem for me to register cardio training
Another thing and this is something quite important for the diet:
In a home site I found where you can calculate calories and how much you may have a day it says: I can have 2253 cal a day in order to go down to 78 kg emoticon
In Sparkpeople It is recommended: 1.370 - 1.720 cal a day emoticon

I really wonder..There is a big distance between those figures

As HUNNYBEE said, it's important to find what works for you. Also, it's important to use reputable, science-based sources of information.
It's easy to find something that tells us what we would like to know, but we have to be sure that it's accurate and makes sense. Otherwise, we follow it and get nothing like what we thought we were getting.

Bottom line, this losing weight and getting better muscle tone and strength is really hard, at least for me. And I need to work harder at doing the right things.

This is one of the things that I like about Sparks, it's flexible and we can find our own path to get to where we want to go.
I do suggest that you make changes slowly to see what effect it has on the rest of the good habits that you have already formed.
We can always improve little by little but at the same time I always remember the old saying
"if it's not broke doin't fix it."

I guess I'd look at whether the Sparkpeople calorie range is working for you. It is for me. I've been slowly losing each week.

I find it very hard to be motivated to do strength training. I'm glad Hunnybee knew how to tell you to record it.

    Hi FRIDA11!
If you want to add strength training on the Spark Fitness page, go to: My Tools -- then choose "My Fitness" from the drop-down menu.

This will open the Fitness page, where you will see 2 sections: one for Strength Training, and one for Cardiovascular. Go to the top section: Strength Training. You will see a white 'button' that says "Add Strength Exercises" - click on it. A page will pop up, with a list of exercises. Tabs across the top of the page will allow you to select CORE, UPPER BODY, LOWER BODY, or YOUR OWN exercises. If you click on an exercise, it will be added to your personal list. Once you have chosen your exercises, you can check them off as you do the exercise, and it will track for you.

As for your calories....you will only lose weight if you use more calories than you consume. Here is a website that can help you to figure it out:

Hope this helps!

Snow

Sunday, December 19, 2010

This month it has been snowing a lot. And it is almost sure we will get a white christmas.
That happens every 7th year in Denmark. Lat year was also a white christmas.
It has meant a lot of snow shovelling. I rapport it as hard digging. And that uses quite many calories.
I also bicycle and go by train rather than by car. Yesterday I bicycled to the train and walked around 2 km to get to the destiny. calories burnt and an incredible lovely view.
So this december is an active month!!
I am in the aspire and inspire group.. here we have to take 10 pushups every day this week - quite a challenge! emoticon

Sounds like you are getting lots of activity in = congrats!! emoticon

I wish we had some snow, but that's pretty rare in Georgia.

Thank you for the comments and what an interesting description of life in Ohio. To go by wheelchair in snow must be a challenge.

I agree - the pushups get to me sometimes.
We have a lot of snow every year where I live in northeast Ohio (U.S.A.). It hasn't been too bad this year - only about 9 inches in my area but neighboring towns have had up to two feet. There were drifts in my yard over four feet deep last winter, but that was an exceptional winter.
It has been cold and windy here and the snows been on the ground about three weeks now. The temp is averaging about 18 degrees Fahrenheit with wind chills down to -10. I do have an all-wheel drive vehicle and can get out when I need to, but thank goodness I don't have to!

Cholesterol and blood pressure

Sunday, November 28, 2010

Many people suffer from high cholesterol and high blood pressure - especially fat people.
I donīt Even though my fat percentage is around 33 or 34 and I weigh about 13 kg too much with an BMI that is 30
My mother had a heart attach a few years ago. She had a high cholesterol..
So it is not inherited. We eat differently
I seldom eat sugar while she often eats cake and go to bridge where they eat fat food and cakes. I never buy butter while my mother always has butter and when she visits me she always brings butter.
I donīt know why I have a low pressure. Maybe it is because I eat fish every day? Either canned fish or fish on the pan or in the oven. My mother also has a low blood pressure both in the normal limits.
Then why am I too fat? I have a low metabolism - it is measured - and I do too little exercise.

Spark is the best and the worst

Wednesday, November 03, 2010

The best - Because it is inspiring
The worst - Because it is one more temptation to be at the computer rather than being physically active...

Set your computer up in such a way that you can walk in place while at the computer. That's what I did.

I have the luxury of starting my day of with SP for about an hour each morning (that will change when I go back to work LOL). My other approach is to break it down into 15 minute increments throughout the day. I find that reading the articles, blogs, etc. reminds me to keep to my goals for the day. Sooooo easy to get caught up in the computer, though!

I so agree with you. When I realize I have been on SP too long, I find a motivational story or quote to close it down. Then I am in the mood to do something physical.

you are right in a way.
I guess you can put it with your portion control category.
You can keep track with a timer.Set it for 15 minutes or so and then get up and do something else for 15 minutes.
Then do 15 minutes more computer time if your not done and on and on.

Yes, it is a balance. But like Staleyk I find that the time spent at the computer with SP helps me to make the healthier choices I need in my life.
