Apple shape.....

Apple Shape (High Health Risk)
If you tend to carry weight in your abdominal area and upper torso, you’re an apple shape. People who are apple-shaped and tend to carry more weight around their waists (commonly referred to as a “pot belly”) are at a greater risk of lifestyle-related diseases such as heart disease and diabetes than pear-shaped people.
However, a 2011 study of 220,000 people published in The Lancet did not find an increased risk.
emoticon My grandmother also had apple shape She became 96 years old. And my mother has apple shape and is soon 82 years old.
Well my mother is and has always been physically active and my grandmother has been a very good swimmer. I find it difficult to be active enough. Especially since I got a car when I was 40. I try to be more active and as the latest I got a professional to show me the right training at the rowing clubs fitness center. As she has used her time I do an extra effort. emoticon

Since my session with the trainee in the rowing club I have used their fitness room regularly - I like being sweaty and to take a shower right after and feel my self clean from within. BUT I am not thinner but I feel bettter

I hate to admit it, but I am apple shaped. All my weight is in my gut. I have nice average legs and a full butt but my gut is where I keep all my weight. Got that from dear old dad. I'm glad they published those findings because I've known about those health risks for a long time. My MD has reminded me more than once too. So far, clean bill of health. I have no real health issues on either side of my family. Well, I mean heart wise. Mom and Dad both have diabetes so I get blood work every 6 months not just for that but to check my med levels. They always check for sugar and cholesterol cuz the meds I'm on can affect those two things as well as hereditary. Mom has high cholesterol. Didn't develop it though til after age 60 and it's controlled with diet and exercise..her diabetes is also diet and exercise. Dad is on insulin. So I have to watch those things. We all have healthy hearts though, as of now. But losing the belly weight is the hardest. I'm trying my butt off...Between life, seroquel, and other's a struggle but heaven knows I'm working! Slowly but surely, right?

Thanks for sharing the info!

Are You a Smart Snacker?
Quiz by Natalie Nichols, Staff Writer
Snacking is a smart way to keep hunger at bay throughout the day, but the key is snacking on the right things, at the right times, and in the right places. Are your snacking habits healthy--or horrific? Find out how your snacks stack up with this short quiz.

You're a Sensible Snacker

Before you earn the title of Smart Snacker, you need a little more practice. The good news is that you try your best to eat healthy foods most of the time, but when it comes to snacks, you aren't as diligent. Your snacking habits (or lack thereof) may deprive your body of adequate nutrition or a fun treat, and by skipping the snacks or choosing the wrong things, you could be setting yourself up for overeating later. Learn to listen to your body's hunger signals, try to forgo the 100-calorie snack packs (they provide little nutritional value), and make it a habit to plan healthy snacks each day. Do these things, and you’ll be a snacking whiz in no time!

New york city ballet work out sounds good. I started some ballet class when I was 39 years old together with some kids. I really enjoyed it. (At that time I wasn´t fat) emoticon

Looking for Functional Training

For you, exercise serves a preventive, therapeutic purpose. You want to maintain a strong core, decrease pain, and stay active and limber as you age so that you can live a healthy, independent life. You're more interested in maintaining long, lean muscles and good posture than running a marathon or benching heavy weights. There are many group fitness options for exercisers like you who want functional strength and an overall healthy body.

Try these fitness classes: Mat Pilates, Reformer Pilates, Ballet Workouts, Functional Training, BOSU, Abs classes, Core Strength, Yogilates, Balance Ball, or Balance Training. All Pilates classes focus on the core muscles (abs, obliques, hips, back), which help you balance and maintain good posture. Functional training classes mimic movements that you do in real life, helping you stay strong and limber, while BOSU, Abs, Core, and Balance classes all focus on the core, balance, posture, and proper body mechanics. Overall these types of classes tend to be low-impact and focus on balancing the body.

Workout videos to try: Balance Ball Beginner's Workout, Pilates Powerhouse, New York City Ballet Workout, Crunch Super SlimDown Pilates Yoga Blend, Stott Pilates Essential BOSU, Core Secrets

A thinner me - A future vision

Wednesday, November 07, 2012

It is me rowing in the rowing club without the feeling that the person behind me looks with disgust on my fat.

It is me in a clothes shop where I can buy smart clothes and don´t have to go out again and not been able to fit in any of the clothes I wanted.

It is me walking up the stairs with ease

It is me that has regained the habit of moving myself every day - Either on bicycle or doing something

And have obtained a habit of doing exercise every week

I don´t feel clumsy any more

I don´t feel ashamed and wondering that that fat lady in the mirror is me

I don´t say yes every time a friend offers me cake - and I don´t overeat. I have a goal of dignity at the table

And I love my new body
