If I stop when I'm full . . .

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

If I keep doing what I was able to do at lunch today . . . if I stop the moment I begin to sense "enough" . . . if I get right up and put the food away . . .

then I WILL lose weight.

I'm working on this, too. When I was doing the 100 Days of Weight Loss study, she mentioned something that has stuck with me. When eating, watch for the pause. Stop and see if you have had enough. I think I could do this if I do more small meals per day instead of larger meals.

Go sparsely with parsley?

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

Travelgrrl's enjoyable blog mentioning yellow squash from her neighbor's giant garden made me remember a poem from my sister many years ago:

O, green peas are pleasers, and turnips are tops,
And rutabaga's one of our noblest crops,
But the star of the spread,
whether banquet or nosh,
is the glorious, golden, crook-neck summer squash!

You can turn up your nose
At those turnips and beans,
Go sparsely with parsley,
scorn corn by all means . . .
but never, oh never, no never, by gosh,
neglect to serve golden crook-neck summer squash!

Keep looking toward your dream

Saturday, June 16, 2012

To anybody who's looking toward any dream, and dealing with any battle, keep looking to that other side, that dream you're trying to reach, just don't take your eyes off that goal ahead, what you want so much.

This is so true, even though it's hard to do.

Long story short, my 82 yo mother overcame mobility issues, regained her strength by walking laps in her apartment and then was able to walk to her car, drive alone and walk through her favorite grocery store (that was her goal). It took her 4 years and I never thought she'd do it, but she said she would and she did.

I know she kept her goal in mind because she kept talking about how she was going to go to Kings and pick out her own produce, meats and baked goods. Stubborn determination sometimes is a good thing.

I remember learning a long time ago that basketball players that ENVISIONED making baskets improved just as much as players who actually practiced making baskets.

I think we often get caught up in the day-to-day struggle and lose track of the ultimate goal. This is a timely reminder for me, FL!

That's a great quote!! It's so important to keep our eyes directed toward our goals, not the everyday ups and downs. (I know that's easier said than done, though, isn't it?!)

Act the Part, Suck it Up (Thanks _Indygirl)

Saturday, June 09, 2012

I have continued to work out 3x per week, but not at an effective intensity.

I have been not been tracking, and my clothes are feeling tight.

Strategy:
1) Start tracking.
2) Bought some cool-and-comfortable workout pants, half-price plus extra 30 percent off. Ready to step it up!

Good for you - hit it hard but don't overdo it. I hope that makes sense on some level.

I know I've been sliding and now it's time to pay the piper and get moving!!

Keep us posted. I know when one of us has success it helps me.

Later,

It is so true that if you "Act the Part" you will soon be living it.
During the 4.5 hour drive home from visiting my grandbaby... I found myself craving veggies. Who would have thought that would happen.
You are making changes that are part of your life.

As someone remarked on my blog, "many of us are dusting off our Beck books." As I am reading I am feeling more settled.

Going public with your intentions is an important step back into the future. It doesn't take long to get back into the tracking mode but the exercise takes a bit more push.

Like the cool workout points. like the sale price, too. It's a process. Sometimes you're GO GO GO. sometimes you need to chill a while. Fell away from tracking for a while myself, and it's been an eye opener to keep count of my nutrition again. emoticon for planning out your strategy!

Thanks for your comment on my fatertainment blog. I have never seen Biggest Loser or any of those TV shows (don't watch TV at all, just never got used to is) but I do know many people who say they're really inspiring. I'm guessing that the increase in contempt for the overweight is something that lots of watchers aren't really consciously tuned into . . . .
