6 Month Update!

Friday, June 20, 2014

For my 6 month milestone, I ran the Picnic Island Adventure Run. It was a 3.8 mile course with logs to run over, ropes to crawl under, tires to run through, and hurdles to jump over, plus some ankle-high to knee-high water to slog through! I'm not sure if I'll do it again. At least not more than once a year! Here's the only picture of myself I could find on their web site afterward. I'm in the bright pink shirt behind the tree! Lol!

So what do I have to show for 6 months of work?

I've lost 42 pounds.
I've lost a total of 23.75 inches, including 8.25 inches from my waist and 7.25 inches from my hips.
I've gone from a plus size 20 to a regular size 14, and an XXL to my first Medium since college (see dressing room photo below)! emoticon

And a few weeks ago, I started dating a kind, funny, hard-working gentleman who seems to think I'm beautiful inside and out.

Life is good. emoticon

Keep it going. I've gone from on some 26W to a 20W without elastic and a 22W to a 16W/18W with elastic. My tankini has a 16W top and a 16W/18W skirt type bottom. I have a 24W swimdress that I have never worn that I have hanging next to the door to the room where the computer is to remind me not to go back to.

Keep up the good work.

Halfway to goal!

Thursday, May 22, 2014

This entry is a little late, because I was just on a 5-night Caribbean cruise. But at my last weigh-in before I left, which was the 5 month mark, I was exactly (to a tenth of a pound) at halfway to goal weight! So, since I was also so excited that I hadn't looked this nice in a dress in about 15 years, I went a little crazy with the on-board professional pics! emoticon

I have to admit, though, when I first went looking for my formal night pictures, I had trouble finding them. Why? Because I DIDN'T RECOGNIZE MYSELF! I have spent so many years HATING pictures of me that I can't believe I found some to like!

I'm so proud of my progress, and I'm happy that the timing allowed me to document my halfway milestone in this way.

36.7 more pounds to go! emoticon

    Thanks everyone!

I forgot to mention that I went on this cruise with a male friend (yes, just FRIENDS lol). Before I moved to Florida a couple of years ago, he and his best friend and I hung out together a lot. On the cruise, my friend repeatedly told me I looked pretty, then after saying it so many times, he said "Really, I'm not trying to be a smart@$$, but you were always one of the guys. I didn't realize you could get so serious about getting all dressed up!" Lol!

Then every night at dinner, he'd take a picture of me in my dresses. He said he was taking them to send to his best friend because "I bet he won't even recognize you!" emoticon

Update after 120 days

Sunday, April 13, 2014

I received so many encouraging comments on my 60 day progress report that I thought I would post another update. 120 days was officially a few days ago, but today is exactly 4 months since I started this journey, and some things happened over the weekend that I wanted to include in my accomplishments! emoticon

First, this morning I ran in my very first race. I did the Iron Girl 5K, and I finished with a new personal record of 35 minutes and 41 seconds (my previous record was almost a minute longer, at 36:38)!

Another big milestone this weekend was that I just barely sneaked into the 180's on the scale at 189.87 yesterday. I honestly can't even remember the last time I was in the 180's!

I started this journey at a snug size 20 and (I know this because I just bought new jeans yesterday!) I'm currently at a comfortable size 16! Here is an updated progress picture which includes a (somewhat blurry) picture of me trying on a dress for a cruise next month:

I get comments from friends at work fairly regularly now. Several ladies have asked how I've done it. They're always disappointed when I tell them I'm doing it the old-fashioned way of eating right and exercising regularly. Everyone wants a magic pill or something (I wouldn't mind that myself, but it doesn't work that way!!)

Ultimately, though, I just FEEL so much better and so much healthier. I continue to find muscles I didn't know I had, and that's always an exciting discovery! emoticon

Spring 5% Challenge Diet and Exercise Commitment

Saturday, March 29, 2014

I'm going to continue my current eating habits, which include avoiding processed foods, eating mainly seafood, poultry, fruits and veggies, and certain dairy products (Greek yogurt mostly!).

I'm a night shift nurse, and my schedule varies, so I'm going to make a weekly commitment instead of specific days:
I'm committing to exercise at least 5 times per week, consisting of 2 to 3 jogs and 2 to 3 Bowflex workouts.

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words!

Lynnie, yes, I've struggled with trying to figure out exactly how to work in an exercise routine. For a while, I did my walk/jogs before work and went to the gym on my nights off. Now I'm doing more of an every-other-day rotation, where I do walk/jogs one day and strength training on my Bowflex (I stick to it better when my gym is as close as my garage!) the next. My toughest days are still the first day off work, because I tend to sleep the day away, so an outdoor workout is out of the question when I wake up after dark! But a couple of weeks ago, I got a used treadmill for just that type of situation, and I have used it twice--once at midnight and once at 3am! I am just trying to get rid of any excuses I might try to come up with! emoticon

Great plan. I think it's so hard to have any kind of work out routine when you work shifts, especially if they swing. I hated nights..ugh. It sounds like you've got a plan and I can't wait to see how great it's going to work for you!

I'm overweight!!! WOOHOO!!! :)

Tuesday, March 04, 2014

While that doesn't sound like something someone would normally get excited about, I'm referring to my BMI range. I can't even tell you how many years I've been over 200 pounds and in the "obese" range. As of today, not only am I in ONE-derland, but, at a BMI of 29.8, I've finally whittled myself down to "overweight!" emoticon

Those are both chapters in my past that I plan to leave behind me forever.

Today, I also dropped another 25 seconds off my 5K time. After tonight, I'm off work for 3 nights. I think for my reward for all these accomplishments, I'll go shopping and find out what size clothing I can fit into now! emoticon
