Day 80 Accountability Blog - 2 steps forward...

Saturday, February 18, 2012

... one giant step back for me today!!! WOW! After feeling so proud with my 40-lb loss yesterday, I had a bad run in with a jar of Nutella tonight... and now I feel terrible! I don't feel guilty or anything, but I feel bad. As in, yuck!! And weak, and ashamed, and yuck again! I don't know what happened, I was hungry, it was late, I came across the jar of Nutella and the loaf of bread, and the rest is a blur!

And now I feel terrible! So I'll just go over my goals and go to bed. Hopefully I can sleep, then I'll wake up tomorrow morning, refocus and move on with my journey. What else can I do? I have to learn from this incident so I don't repeat it. And the lesson is this: I must not wait so long to eat when feeling hungry, because I'll lose sight of what's good for me and just eat anything that crosses my path without counting or caring how much of it I eat.

Work in progress, work in progress, work in progress...

I didn't do well at all with my goals today:

1- Grocery shopping: did it today, one day late, but done. Stocked up on fruits and veggies, I'm ready for the week!
2- Exercise: planned rest day
3- Track my food and stay below 1800 cals: tracked yes. I was at 1700 cals before the Nutella incident. I don't how much this incident cost me, but it's probably a couple hundred calories... Way off for today!
emoticon
4- 8 cups of water: That I did! At least 1 goal met!
emoticon
5- Sleep: got 7 hours last night, thank goodness!
emoticon
6- Meditation: Not done yet, but for sure will do 10 minutes as soon as I am done here. It will help me regroup and get ready for tomorrow.
emoticon
7- Fruits/veggies: only 1 veggie today, no fruits...
emoticon
8- Blog: done! Why am I writing all this? So I can confess and not deny like I did in the past.

***I hereby acknowledge that I, Fredann, indulged in bread and Nutella tonight. I do NOT feel very well, I do NOT feel proud, and this is not what I want for myself in the future. I promise that next time I'll be more mindful and not repeat the experience!***

Now, let's plan for Sunday:

1- Exercise: Back to running, 35 minutes non-stop, which hopefully will allow me to cover 5km.
2- Track my food. Max 1800 cals. Seriously, by now this should be the norm. I know I can do this!!! Come on, me!!
3- Drink 8 cups of water at least
4- 7 hours of sleep
5- Meditate 10 minutes at least.
6- 5 freggies, including a minimum of 2 fruits.
7- Report my progress to the world every day by writing my accountability blog

No excuses, I'll have a perfect score tomorrow I'm sure!
Wish me luck!

We're only as sick as our secrets. Let's not have any secrets! I had a similar day to you, only my downfall was cashews. I also had a gut ache. I hope that memory will deter me from similar incidents in the future. Great resolve to get back on track.

A single Nutella incident will not undo 40 lbs lost! You acknowlged it and moved on--that's most important! Love your attitude and drive. Keep it up and continued success is imminent!

Day 79 Accountability blog - I "Lost 40 lbs with Sparkpeople"!!

Friday, February 17, 2012

Isn't it great when a new threshold is reached and you can finally update your sparkpage and add a picture from SP's success galery that says: Lost x lbs with Sparkpeople!! That is just what I did this morning after weighing myself. Down 1.2 lbs from last week, down a total of 40.4 lbs since I decided to take my head out of the sand, admit the truth about my weight, and get healthy!

Yes, I "LOST 40 LBS WITH SPARKPEOPLE"!!
emoticon emoticon
I have updated my sparkpage and spent the day being grateful that a) I am still alive, and b) not only have I "met" some amazing people on this site, I have also learned a great deal about who I am and what I am capable of.

I read somewhere today that for every gain there is a loss. I am going to flip this and say that for every pound I lost, I gained something else in return. Pride would be number 1, followed by strength, motivation, inspiration, will, a desire for more and better things for myself, etc... At this point the list is endless! What will it be when I reach my goal and lose all 70 lbs left?! I'll literally be walking on a cloud of happiness!!

And this Accountability Blog!!! Boy, some people may find it annoying to see me posting yet another one, but I don't care! It has changed my life, it has opened my eyes in ways I couldn't imagine. I'll keep posting, and I know people will keep reading! I am so grateful and so happy I could inspire a few other members to start posting daily blogs as well. Knowing that I... ME... inspired others is extremely motivating. There is no way I can stop now, because others are looking at what I'm doing! I have to be serious and do it, otherwise I'll seem like a fraud, a failure. Oh no! Not going to happen, I'm here to stay!!

So, time to be accountable. My daily goals:

1- Exercise: crosstraining - 30 minutes on the stationary bike followed by 3 sets of squats, 2 sets of modified pushups and some stretches. And I spent the rest of the day cleaning the house, does that count?
emoticon emoticon
2- Track my food. Max 1800 cals. My maximum calories on my tracker is set to 1950, but I wanted to eat less than 1800 cals today to help me reach my February goal. But I forgot, again!! Second time this happens this week... So I finished the day at 1879 cals. No biggy I know but still!!
emoticon
3- Drink 8 cups of water at least: Today, I drank 14 CUPS OF WATER... 14!!! What can I say, I was thirsty, so I drank! I will quote one of my sparkfriends and hope I'm not "up all night visiting the little girl's room"!!!
emoticon
4- 7 hours of sleep... Almost, I got 6.5 hours last night. For some reason I woke up before 6am and couldn't get back to sleep. Strange!
emoticon
5- Meditate 10 minutes at least. Done!
emoticon
6- 5 freggies, including a minimum of 2 fruits. Had 3 veggies and 1.5 fruits... Can I round it up to 2 fruits?
emoticon
7- Report my progress to the world every day by writing my accountability blog
emoticon
8- Friday = grocery shopping day!! Bad, bad me... I didn't go! In my defense I did do a lot of cleaning! I'll go tomorrow for sure!
emoticon

So that's my day. Not perfect, but it doesn't even begin to compare to before! Slow and steady, yes, but moving forward!!

Tomorrow, Saturday, I will place grocery shopping as my number 1 priority. I am scheduling a rest day for tomorrow, well deserved after 7 consecutive days of working out. And goals 2 to 7 remain on the list as usual.

40 lbs lost, woohooo!! But it doesn't stop there! Next step, 50 lbs lost! So bring on the next 10 lbs, I've got my gloves on and am ready for the fight!!
emoticon

Have a great weekend sparkers, take it one day at the time, it goes much faster this way!!

First of all, congrats on losing 40 pounds! That is an amazing accomplishment! I liked the way you turned that saying around - for every pound you've lost, you've gained something in return. Very profound.

Secondly, you have inspired many of us -- and more continue to be inspired! I can't thank you enough for your example and encouragement! Keep up the good work. Keep on Sparking the world!

Day 78 Accountability blog - 1510 calories? ME??

Thursday, February 16, 2012

Really, that's all I ate today: 1510 calories! VERY unlike me! I always eat as many calories as I am allowed in one day. God forbid I should go hungry, right?! Well, not so much anymore. For the past weeks I have really made an effort to listen to my body and feel the hunger signals. And now unless I clearly feel those signals, I DON'T eat. As simple as that. It sounds very basic I know, but when food becomes everything but fuel for the body, and most of all when food becomes an emotional soother, the hunger signal disappears and the relationship between a person and food is broken. Trust me, I know!!
Oh! I still find myself wandering around the pantry when I'm bored, or tired, or upset... or happy, or anxious, or... enter feeling here... but it seems that I am able to stop myself now, before opening the pantry's door even! And I am very proud of that! I blame meditation for this accomplishment!! Mindfulness meditation, the present moment! I love it!

So anyways I wasn't really hungry today. Tired yes, but not hungry. So I ate little, and when I did eat I chose good foods. I am really, really making progress in the kitchen and it is showing. I cook more and watch the ingredients that I use. For example today I made a home-made pizza. Whole-wheat crust (home-made as well, not by me but by a friend of mine), tomato sauce, a little bit of pepperoni (I love pepperoni!), a ton of veggies, onions, mushrooms, broccoli, spinach, green pepper, olives. And a thin layer of cheddar cheese, which I weighed then tracked like a good girl! A little bit of ground pepper and italian seasonning, thrown in the oven and ... Oh my!! Delicious!!

emoticon

As for my other goals:

1- Exercise: 35-minute run: I was out there for 38 minutes. The first 20 minutes went fine but then I had to take 3 90-second walking breaks until I made it back home. That's okay, I learned a while ago that it's better to stop when I need it than to get frustrated and never run ahead. I'll do better next time. When I got home I did my 30-minute stretch/yoga DVD which was appreciated because I was aching all over. A good workout in the end!
emoticon
2- Track my food. Max 1950 cals. 1510 cals today...
emoticon
3- Drink 8 cups of water at least: 10 cups today!
emoticon
4- 7 hours of sleep... I knew last night that this would not happen. I went to bed at midnight and had to be up at 6:30am. And, I had the strangest nightmare... weird! So no, I didn't sleep enough, and I didn't sleep well.
emoticon
5- Meditate 10 minutes at least. Already done, and I'll do more at bedtime
emoticon
6- 5 freggies, including a minimum of 2 fruits. Done. 3 veggies and 3 fruits!
emoticon
7- Report my progress to the world every day by writing my accountability blog: done!
emoticon

I am proud of what I accomplished today. This is something I never used to say before, but now when I do something good, I let myself know that I am proud. Yes, I am really, really working on all areas of my life right now.
emoticon

Time to plan for tomorrow:

1- Exercise: I know I have to be clear when I plan for tomorrow, but I am not sure what workout I will do on Friday. I may go running again, I'll see. One thing I know, I'll workout for sure!
2- Track my food. Max 1800 cals. I still have 2.8 lbs to lose before Feb. 29, I am not going to make it if I keep eating 1950 cals a day.
3- Drink 8 cups of water at least
4- 7 hours of sleep... Going to bed in 5 minutes to make sure that happens.
5- Meditate 10 minutes at least.
6- 5 freggies, including a minimum of 2 fruits.
7- Report my progress to the world every day by writing my accountability blog
8- Friday = grocery shopping day!! My least favorite thing to do after cleaning the inside of the fridge!!
emoticon
Yes, tomorrow is Friday! Let's make it count!

Day 77 Accountability blog - Yoga

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

I can't believe it's already been 77 days since I started writing this blog. Time sure flies when your having fun!!

I don't really have much to report today, except maybe for the fact that I did less yoga then planned/expected... I started too late and had to cut my session short because we had a meeting with my son's teachers. It still felt great! I am totally hooked on yoga BTW! Just like running, I wasted years trying to convince myself that I couldn't do it, and now that I started doing it for me and because I want to be well, I can't get enough of it!! I am still learning and getting used to it but still, I love it and already see the benefits!

So, today's goals:

1- Exercise: I was planning 60 minutes of yoga but only did 25 minutes. Still better than nothing for sure! I also did something I hadn't done in a long time: lying abductions and adductions. Well, my thighs sure felt those!!
emoticon
2- Track my food. Max 1900 cals. I wanted to refine my nutrition today and have more veggies, less bread, less calories... I did have less bread and more freggies but forgot I wasn't supposed to eat more than 1900 cals. I ate 1938 cals... oops!!
emoticon
3- Drink 8 cups of water at least: done
emoticon
4- 7 hours of sleep: done for the third night in a row!
emoticon emoticon
5- Meditate 10 minutes at least: done!
emoticon
6- 5 freggies, including a minimum of 2 fruits: done, 3 veggies and 2 fruits!
emoticon
7- Report my progress to the world every day by writing my accountability blog
emoticon

Tomorrow's plan:

1- Exercise: back to running tomorrow. It's been 2 days and I am about to go cold turkey!! I need it! Planning 35 minutes straight. Since I did a short yoga session today I may do more tomorrow! I looooove it!!
2- Track my food. Max 1950 cals.
3- Drink 8 cups of water at least
4- 7 hours of sleep... I already know that's not going to happen...
5- Meditate 10 minutes at least.
6- 5 freggies, including a minimum of 2 fruits.
7- Report my progress to the world every day by writing my accountability blog

Another day of accountability done! Time to focus on tomorrow!

Come on, Jane, join us! You'd be surprised what it can do for you!

FredAnn, 38 extra calories when they are fruits and veggies are OK by me! Great job with the Yoga. I took Yoga classes the last couple of years. I didn't take it this semester when I added the swimming class, and I miss it - especially after hearing you talk about it. I think I'll add it back in during the summer semester.

Day 76 Accountability blog - Valentine's day

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

February 14... I never really liked this day. When I was single I used to feel lonely on Valentine's day, and now that I'm married, I feel awkward spending money on anything related to this day. The way I see it, everyday should be Valentine's day! I mean, why do we need a special day in the year to tell each other that we love and appreciate each other? This should be an everyday occurence. And if it were, I bet there would be no war on earth!

Anyways, I made sure to tell my hubby and kids how much I love them today. But then again, I do so everyday. One thing I don't do enough however, is let my sparkfriends know how much I appreciate their support and friendship. So today I made sure to spread some love!! This site has changed my life and I am so grateful! Thank you everyone!
emoticon

As for my goals, well I did okay, except maybe with my nutrition:

1- Exercise: Step aerobics, 35 minutes done. This particular DVD I used has strength training at the end, so I did that as well. Pushups, crunches, squats and stretches, and I added some back extensions to the mix. I am feeling it!!
emoticon
2- Track my food. Max 1950 cals. Almost. I finished at 1955 cals. I do feel like I ate too much today. Too much carbs I think...
emoticon
3- Drink 8 cups of water at least: 10 cups today
emoticon
4- 7 hours of sleep: Oh yes, 7.5 hours last night!!
emoticon emoticon
5- Meditate 10 minutes at least: done already
emoticon
6- 5 freggies, including a minimum of 2 fruits: 3 fruits and 1 veggie, not enough...
emoticon
7- Report my progress to the world every day by writing my accountability blog
emoticon

Tomorrow's goals:

1- Exercise: Tomorrow I am planning a good hour of yoga. I'll try a new routine and see how it goes. No running or steps as my left knee is hurting quite a bit. I'll give it a day of rest and work on yoga instead.
2- Track my food. Max 1900 cals. I need to refine my nutrition tomorrow. More veggies, less bread, less calories...
3- Drink 8 cups of water at least
4- 7 hours of sleep
5- Meditate 10 minutes at least.
6- 5 freggies, including a minimum of 2 fruits.
7- Report my progress to the world every day by writing my accountability blog

I hope everyone had a fabulous day!

Another great day for you! I know what you mean about too many carbs -- but at least you were close to your calorie range. My sweetie and I had a very rich 5-course Argentinean dinner, and I was way over my calories. Back on track today, though. Keep on inspiring me!
