A successful first day of summer vacation is in the books. Cardio, playdate, errands, run, yummy dinner, visiting with a friend, reading for pleasure and an early bedtime. Yay!

I did 45 minutes of Turbo Jam this morning before it got too hot, walked the 1 2/3 miles to and from our playdate and then ran late this afternoon. It was H.O.T. (~90*)! I actually wasn't going to run, but I was (not so gently) reminded (prodded) with the fact that I have a 15K race in a couple weeks that is notoriously hot. So, what better training. I decided on 5.5 miles which is an easy run from a friend's house to the far end of our 2 mile rail trail and back. I carried my phone, water and had people on standby with my ETA. I made it, but it was tough; one of my hardest runs ever in fact and I ended up doing run/walk intervals for the last mile. No regrets though.

Food was decent today, I ate too much at dinner but it was pretty healthy. Avocado chicken salad, yum!

I have a few unexpected hours to myself tomorrow, so I'll have time to get in a run and a bike, Yay again!

Make tomorrow great!

Goals for tomorrow:
80+ oz water
AM workout: 30 minute run, 14+ mile bike
Midday workout: N/A
PM workout: Mow
Make good food choices
Work on to-do list
In bed by 11:00 pm

Here's the recipe I used for my salad last night:

I used 2 chix breasts, 2 avocados, juice of 1 lime, cilantro and green onion to taste. No mayo. Could easily be halved or even quartered, I was feeding 2 people. Enjoy!

Weds 5/20

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

I finally got my 30 day shred workout in. Quads are still tight but everything else seems to be back to normal. I did not end up running today. It was just too hot at 2:30 and I had no other time to do it. The rest of this week is questionable too. I may put in some miles on the 'mill tomorrow just to get them in.

My food was fair. Overate at lunch-I took Alexis to her favorite pizza place for lunch and then for ice cream to celebrate the start of summer. Ate okay at dinner though. Still drinking water-it's still almost 80* at 11pm. Tomorrow should be an interesting day. Our first day of summer vacation.

Make tomorrow great!

Goals for tomorrow:
80+ oz water
AM workout: TBD
Midday workout: TBD
PM workout: TBD (burn total 600 cals min, try for a run)
Make good food choices
Work on to-do list

Yeah, the heat is killer!!! Suggested DH take the kids to the Lake today to get some relief but looks like he's going to spend the morning at the Dr's instead. Great last day of school for the DS!!! Just an ear infection, but still.....

Enjoy the day! And be mindful of the heat!!!!!

Tues 5/19

Tomorrow is the last day of school. It's a mixed blessing; I get to spend time with Alexis, but I'm also not bringing in any income. I do always look forward to summer though.

Today was mixed, I didn't do 30 day shred. I started it and then realized how sore I still was from Sunday. I did, however, do 45 minutes of Turbo Jam instead. I ate okay. Could have been better, but could have been much worse. It's supposed to be hot tomorrow, heat index near 100*. I was hoping to run about 6 miles, but my schedule has been changed and I'm not sure I want to go that long in that heat. It will depend on how I feel at 2:30.

Make tomorrow great!

Goals for tomorrow:
80+ oz water
AM workout: 30 day shred L1
Midday workout: run...distance TBD
PM workout: TBD
Track my food and make good choices
Work on to-do list
In bed by 11:00 pm

Thanks!

Today was a good day. I took Alexis to school, started some errands and then went back to volunteer in her classroom. After that, I needed to get in my long run. Maybe not the best choice for today, but it's supposed to be in the 80s tomorrow and the 90s by Wednesday and Thursday. I have to admit, I hurt when I was done, but I rolled out for a bit tonight and stretched and I'm feeling better. I'm glad I got it done either way.

Make tomorrow great!

Goals for tomorrow:
80+ oz water
AM workout: 30 day shred L1
Midday workout: TBD
PM workout: 30 min kickboxing
Track my food and make good choices
Get the house picked up
Work on to-do list

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do . . . like my way-too-early easy run this morning. Just make sure you don't set yourself up for an overuse injury!

Sun 6/17-Warrior Dash RR

Sunday, June 17, 2012

First...Happy Birthday to my amazing mom, Dingallstoo. Love you!! Second...Happy Father's Day to all the dads in SparkLand.

Now, the good stuff. Today was my second Warrior Dash race. This year we decided to try a different site, so we went south to the Pocono Mtns of PA, Mt. Pocono to be more specific, right at the race track. Some things we noticed...
~It was a smaller venue, with smaller waves of runners, and it seemed like there was less energy.
~It was flat, no hills and a lot more all out running. Windham had a lot of trail running and all ups or downs. (It's a ski mountain)
~Obstacles were a bit harder. Here's the race info with map...

nsylvania.php#

~The crowd itself was different, less costumes, etc.
~Less water obstacles, more walls.

Gwen, Leona, and I got to the track nearly 2 hours before our 11 am wave was supposed to start. We had plenty of time to get our stuff, take pics, potty, snack, check bags etc and still ended up starting at 10:30.

Since we were there early, we started about 1/3 of the way back from the mat. Gwen and I planned on running the whole thing while Leona wanted to finish and would meet us at the end. She was awesome though and stayed with us the first 1/2 mile. We didn't get to our first obstacle until 3/4 mile in and the first 2 Gwen and I had seen last year at Windham, so we got through pretty quick. Even though this race had 13 obstacles, they tended to be bunched together, so there was a lot of just running. Great for me, but Windham was definitely a bigger challenge in this regard. The biggest challenge today was the walls. There were 4 wall type structures we had to get over. 2 of them used ropes to help you get yourself up and none of them were designed for those of us under about 5'5"! My arms/back/shoulders will be feeling some ache tomorrow from that. There was also a lot less water at this race. Okay for us since it was early and still quite cool, but I wouldn't have wanted to run it later in the day. I really enjoyed the challenges this course presented. I totally feel like a warrior! Also cool was seeing some of the race cars out practicing while we ran. We basically ran around the track.

As we came to the end, Gwen and I were running right together. We jumped over the (much larger) fire and swam through the mud under the barbed wire (this was awesome! Windham's final crawl was basically dirty water, this was MUD) and held hands to finish in 40 minutes. Leona (not a runner) finished only about 12 minutes behind us. It felt awesome! Here we are about 20 minutes after we finished...the mud had already started drying and flaking.

My kicks...my last pair of Asics Kayanos before they changed them and I couldn't wear them anymore. emoticon

We got hosed off by the fire department (which was pumping water from a nearby stream) and then went to the van to change. (You lose all modesty at an event like this) Headed back in to the event area for our free beers (Miller light in a can instead of the draft micro brews Windham had) and lunch and to watch the band for a bit. On our way out of PA, we HAD to stop and refuel better. So we hit up Burger King for some bacon sundaes.

Yum!! And them came home to a lobster dinner. We certainly ate like warriors today. Luckily I'm doing a long run tomorrow to burn it off. Thanks for reading, make tomorrow great!

Goals for tomorrow:
80+ oz water
AM workout: 10-11 mile run
Midday workout: N/A
PM workout: TBD

I have a friend who did one in Chicago this past weekend. She didn't talk much of the course but she had lots of mud pictures too.

Congrats!!!

I have to admit, the first thing that comes to mind is: don't you ever rest?

That & I don't care what y'all say - it really doesn't sound like fun to me!

But I'm glad you had fun.
