October 2, 2014 DO NOT LOVE THE WORLD
We have all heard of devout football fans. We may be one ourselves. We have seen people who will stand in line for hours to watch a certain movie series. There are teenagers who are devoted fans to certain singers and actors and pay large amounts of money to see them. The things we do for who or what we are devoted to are sometimes a little wild and a little scary. But if a devoted believer of God stands up and prays in public, mentions the Bible in school, or plays Spiritual music at work, they are condemned and forbidden to do it again. However, that shouldn’t stop the devoted believer of God. That should just remind him or her of the sin in the world and give them an even greater desire to share God’s word.
1 John 2:15 “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we know there are people in the world who are devoted to worldly things. We know there are people in the world who have idols who they put above You. Their devotion is not on You but on the things or other people in the world. We pray for Your believers to be strong in Your word and to have the courage to speak to these people about You so they will believe and become devoted only to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
If only those who stand in line for hours to buy a favorite toy or game would stand in line for hours to honor and obey God.
Where we put our priorities sometimes just don’t make sense. Why be devoted to the world when God offers so much more?
No matter what others try to do to stop believers from being devoted to God, they won’t win. In the end, God’s got this.
Despite the devil’s attempts to scare believers into turning from God, those who are truly devoted will not falter.
If we are truly devoted to God, we won’t want anything this world offers.
1 Corinthians 7:31 “Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away.” (NLT)
Focus: No matter what the world offers, God offers more. Be devoted only to Him.

October 1, 2014 COMPLETELY DEVOTED
Devoted can be defined as being loyal, loving or showing enthusiasm for someone or something. When we are devoted, we are focused on that one person or thing. Our devotion shows through in our words and actions. Everyone knows who or what we are devoted to. It may be a family member. It may be a worthy cause. It may be some worldly object. But it should be God. God should be the one in our minds every day and others should see our devotion to Him in all we do.
1 Samuel 12:24 “But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we come to You today to seek Your face. We want to know what parts of our lives are not devoted to You. Reveal to us, Lord, how we can be more focused on and devoted to You today. Help us remember all the wonderful things You have done for us. We want to faithfully serve You and be devoted only to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Being completely devoted to God requires we focus only on Him and His will.
When we fear God and truly know who He is, we will want to be devoted to Him.
We can’t be devoted to God when we won’t spend time in His word.
When we focus on all God is and all He does, we will become more devoted to Him.
When we love God with all our hearts, we will want to get to know Him more and become more devoted to Him.
Deuteronomy 6:5 “And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.” (NLT)
Focus: Get into God’s word today and ask Him how you can become more devoted to Him.

September 30, 2014 THOSE WHO ARE LEFT
It doesn’t matter what we do today if we aren’t doing it for God. We can spend all day wrapped up in our work. We can spend all day mad at the world. We can spend all day thinking about how we want to get back at someone. But if we aren’t living for God, our day is wasted. If we aren’t humbling ourselves before Him and serving others, we aren’t putting our trust in Him. He knows what is best and has a plan for our lives. Let’s start right now serving Him and trusting in His name. Because, in the end, God will rescue those who know Him and humbly serve Him.
Zephaniah 3:12 “Those who are left will be the lowly and humble, for it is they who trust in the name of the Lord.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we praise You today. We praise You that You will one day rescue the lowly and the humble. We praise You that You will one day rescue those who love and trust in You. Give us the right hearts today, Lord. We want hearts that are free from burden and sin. Cleanse us so we can start new this day. We want to work for You and only You. We want to serve, to trust and to humbly obey You. Show us Your way today, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
If we aren’t doing what God wants us to do today, we aren’t living for God.
Despite what is going on in our lives right now, we can humbly bow before God and give Him the rest of our day.
God knows if we have a humble or selfish heart. He sees us on the inside. What does He see in you?
Today doesn’t matter if we aren’t living it on purpose for God.
In the end, God will rescue the humble and humiliate the proud.
2 Samuel 22:28 “You rescue the humble, but your eyes watch the proud and humiliate them.” (NLT)
Focus: Watch out to be sure you aren’t getting too proud in your actions. Remember to be humble in all things.

September 29, 2014 A HUMBLE ATTITUDE
We all probably know someone with a haughty attitude. Someone who talks over everyone else, knows everything and just has to share what they “think” they know. As we grow older, most of us learn it is better to listen more and speak less. It is also shows wisdom to refrain from being the know-it-all and to give others opportunities to talk. Having a humble attitude will allow us to be better listeners and gain respect. Having a humble attitude to God will help us better obey Him.
Philippians 2:7-8 “Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we are so grateful to You of Your daily reminders to be humble. Keep us focused on You today so we can have the humble attitude You call us to have. We want to be humble, obedient and serving as You have called us to do. You are so good to us and we thank You. Take control of our day and guide us to opportunities to be humble. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
A humble attitude will help us listen more and talk less.
A humble attitude will allow us to want to be like Jesus.
A humble attitude will make us be willing to give up worldly things.
A humble attitude will allow God to revive our courage to live for Him.
What a great promise from God that He will restore our crushed spirits and revive our courage!
Isaiah 57:15 “The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: ‘I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.’” (NLT)
Focus: Without a humble attitude toward God, we are doomed to live our own lives.

September 28, 2014 GRATEFUL TO GOD
When we humble ourselves before God, we can be grateful to Him for His mighty power, His love and His grace. When we humble ourselves before God and are grateful to Him, we are more willing to give up our lives so Christ can live in us. We are more willing to love God and work for His purpose. Being grateful to God humbles us and allows us to remember why we are here. So let’s not cling to our lives and the things of the world but instead cling to God and be grateful for all He is, all He has done and all He wants to do through us.
Matthew 10:39 “If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we know it is easy to cling to our own lives. We want things to go our way. We want to have the things of the world and be like everyone else. We want to cling to those things of the world because we feel we need them. Help us today, Lord, to know and remember You tell us to stop clinging but give up our lives for You so we can find Life. Your Life You promise to us. It is so much sweeter, more peaceful and more rewarding than anything we could cling to on this earth. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When we humble ourselves before God, we can’t help but be grateful for all He has done.
We should be extremely grateful to God that He gives us a plan with directions for our lives.
When we humble ourselves before God, we can’t help but be grateful for His power, strength and might.
Humbleness brings us closer to God so we are grateful for His love and forgiveness.
Be grateful to God that He alone causes great things to happen according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (NLT)
Focus: Humbleness brings gratitude. Try it and see.
