USELESS WORK

When our actions are not what God wants us to do, they are worthless. When we do things without going to God and asking Him to guide us, we are wasting our time. All things we do at work, at home, and at play, must be for God. He needs to be in the center of our whole life and not just when we want Him to be. We must trust Him in all we do.

Psalm 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, You tell us it is useless to work hard all day long on things that are not according to Your will. You tell us the things we do that are not in line with Your will are simply distractions that cause useless work. Show us today the work You want us to do and help us stay focused on doing only Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God doesn’t want us to do useless work that does not glorify His name.

When we work hard but don’t work smart, we are just wasting our time.

God wants us to work hard and to work smart for Him so we can help others and give Him the glory.

We can do work that is not useless when we focus on God by reading His word, praying and following His direction.

We should never think our work is useless we are doing what God has called us to do – no matter what man may say.

Isaiah 49:4 “I replied, ‘But my work seems so useless! I have spent my strength for nothing and to no purpose. Yet I leave it all in the Lord’s hand; I will trust God for my reward.’” (NLT)

Focus today: Be sure the we work do today is in line with what God has called us to do and stay focused on doing His will.

KEEP LOOKING

Our eyes, our hearts and our minds need to stay focused on God. We need to depend only on Him to help us in all things. When we look to man for help, we are going to be disappointed most of the time. No one can help us and have mercy on us the way God can. We need to be attentive to Him as He leads us through our lives so we can live as He wants us to live and make the decisions He wants us to make.

Psalm 123:2 “We keep looking to the Lord our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we want to keep looking to You in all things. We want to follow You, serve You, and obey You. We know others will never help us or know what is right for us the way You do. Thank You for Your mercy and Your grace. Help us today, Lord, through all the distractions, to keep looking to You for help, for guidance and for direction. Help us to keep looking to You for love, mercy and grace so we can do what is right in Your eyes and be obedient to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We need to stay focused on God 24/7/365.

God is all we need to be strong and live as He wants us to live.

When we look to man for help, we are going to be disappointed most of the time.

When we continue to look to God, we will never be disappointed.

God’s mercy is available to us if we will only believe and keep looking to Him for it.

Hebrews 4:16 “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (NLT)

Focus today: Let’s look to God today for answers and keep our eyes fixed on Him.

DAILY STRUGGLES

Every day is a new opportunity to either tackle something we are working on or discover we have a new struggle in life. We can’t always make problems go away in an instant or even a day. But we can take things one day at a time and realize if we allow God to help us get through the daily struggles, things will eventually get better. God wants to help us every day. He wants us to be there for our friends who are struggling reminding them that these daily struggles will soon end and we will be stronger.

2 Corinthians 4:18 “So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us today to know our struggles will soon be gone. Help us to know when we struggle we are learning something from You and we become stronger. When our friends struggle, help us to be the friend who comforts them but also reminds them to take charge of the situation and move on. Help us to help them to know You better because of their daily struggles and that You are there for them just as You are here for us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Our struggles should not cause us to give up on what God wants us to do.

Knowing that there will be struggles in our lives helps us plan ahead for them knowing God will get us through them.

When struggles come to our friends, we can be the friend who comforts and encourages advising them that God will help them through their struggles.

God is all we need in every struggle, in every battle, in every situation, every day.

If we go to God when we are struggling and encourage our friends to do the same, He will remind us that He is in control.

Philippians 4:13 “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (NLT)

Focus today: Despite the struggles we have today, let’s continue to focus on God and lean on Him to help us.

GOD’S INTENTIONS

In this crazy world we live in, we have many issues where we lose focus. Life gets in the way and we lose track of time and money. Insomuch that we sometimes think we are losing our minds. When we realize Christ should be the center of all we do, we will be able to better focus on Him. When our focus is on Him, we will make better decisions, take the right actions and live as He wants us to live. We focus on Him because He is our Rock and Redeemer. He is and always will be. And He will never change or be shaken. When we focus on Him and His intentions, we will become stronger and able to do what He has called us to do.

Psalm 33:11 “But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us today to focus on Your intentions for us. Help us to remember that Your plans do stand firm forever. You cannot be shaken. You never change. You are constant. And when we place our focus on You, we remember. We remember Your goodness, Your grace and Your mercy. And we remember Your love. Help us to focus on all that You are today and remind us in all we do to be obedient to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

When we focus on God’s intentions for us, He will show us how to love others as He love them.

When we focus on God’s intentions for us, He will remind us of His goodness and how we are supposed to be good as well.

When we focus on God’s intentions for us, He show His grace and mercy upon us.

When we focus on God’s intentions for us, He will reveal them to us and show us how to be obedient to Him.

God’s intentions can never be shaken and can be found in His word. We should allow His Holy Spirit to guide us to follow God’s intentions for us.

Galatians 5:25 “Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” (NLT)

Focus today: Ask God what His intentions are for you today and be focused and obedient to Him.

TURN AWAY

Many of us struggle with focus. In order to focus well, we sometimes have to turn away. We sometimes need a break. Working at the computer is one example. When we stare at a computer long enough, we become tired. Our eyes begin to strain. Our back begins to hurt. We have to get up and move around. We need to take a break. In order to focus well on anything, we need to get away from it sometimes. Then we will come back fresh and ready to complete what it is we need to do. God tells us we need rest so we should periodically turn away from our work to get that rest.

Psalm 127:2 “It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us to remember to rest today. Help us to remember to take breaks and not work all day long. We know that You will provide us with all we need as You always have. We know that You have plans for us and in those plans, we are to rest. Help us today to set aside a time to rest, to focus on You and to be renewed so we can continue to focus on doing Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God wants us to work hard but He also wants us to rest.

There is no work that is so important that we can’t take a break from it.

When we are working too hard and not resting enough, we may lose focus on God’s plan for us.

Doing what God calls us to do requires us to work but it also requires us to rest.
Even in the beginning, God did not work all the time. He took time to rest and so should we.

Genesis 2:2 “On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work.” (NLT)

Focus today: We should take time to rest today after working to help us better focus and be obedient to God.

Thank you for this reminder. I think that sometimes in our busy rush busy society we feel like to rest is to fail. I know I feel that sometimes taking a break feels like a waste of time and I run myself ragged trying to get everything done. Taking a rest is part of God's plan, and we need to remember that - so thank you for the reminder.
