Jubilant June Challenge Week 4! (June 22-28th)

1. Month long challenge: I have really been enjoying reading your responses to this challenge! I pray that you have too! Keep up the great work!

This section is a "Daily", Month long challenge: These can be posted as your status, on the discussion board or as a blog! Just list here where it is so we don't miss it!)
25 points a day!
Week four:
22) Post one healthy food you thought you’d never try, but now have! I thought I'd never try asparagus, but I tried it a few months ago and it's now my favorite veggie ^_^
23) Post one healthy activity you thought you’d never try, but now have! I thought I'd never try martial arts, but I did try it and stuck with it for almost 2 years. I have since stopped due to the cost but hope to one day start again.
24) Post by finishing this sentence: I have gained more confidence, and that allowed me to learn how to dance.
25) Post one way that you are more connected to others, now that you are on your Spark journey. I share most of my weight loss challenges with my spark friends and one of my friends here at home as well.
26) Post one nutrition or fitness goal that is easier than you imagined to reach each day. It is getting easier to cook all my meals at home now that I have stocked my kitchen ^_^ and I'm eating way better than I would have if I'd be eating fast food all the time still.
27) Post one way a fellow team member has inspired and motivated you.
28) Post one way you build (and keep) momentum every day. I'm still struggling with this so I don't really have an answer yet ^_^

Points: 175

2. Fitness Challenge:

The First Steps Towards a New Me!!

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Well I have been kinda out of the game so to speak for quite a while now, since about christmas actually. So almost 6 months now. It's been a long time but I am getting back in there and starting strong.

Today, I made a great first step towards my goals. I walked to work. I have been meaning to start walking sine I started the job in January and kept putting it off because it was cold and snowy. But that excuse has long since past. Even as the weather warmed I just didn't start walking. It's only a 5 min drive or a 20 min walk, and that's walking slowly too. So today I got up and decided no more procrastinating and being lazy and I realized just how out of shape I really am. Walking to work gets me out of breath, not crazy where I can't talk but noticeably out of breath. So once it gets easier, I'm going to start taking the stairs in my building too. Small steps right? lol

I have also made a new grocery list. All things that will make it easier to eat healthier and also to cook more meals at home. Eating out is always a challenge for me. Until I go shopping, and even afterwards, I won't be placing too much importance on eating healthy. I'm just trying to make small improvements and stop eating out. I'll really buckle down on it more as I do better. Again, small steps! I'll be going shopping tomorrow, I have the day off ^_^

I'm proud of these few small steps I have taken in the right direction. It's a start and I know I can do this!!

4) Post it in five words – share something positive, inspirational, encouraging, wise or uplifting.
5) Post one way your Spark journey has spilled over into a non-food/exercise area of your life.

I'm glad you are back. The people on Sparkpeople are so wonderful and encouraging. My hair isn't curly, but when it is hot and I perspire my hair curls a little. I love it when it does that. I dropped my goals from 2 pounds a week to half a pound a week this year. It has helped keep me motivated. I don't feel like I'm starving, and I usually end up losing more than the half pound. It is a struggle though. Doing the challenges on the Live-Its team has really helped. Enjoy your summer, and remember that we are here for you. emoticon

I am so glad to see you back on the team. I had to be off of SP for a while and found it a bit difficult getting back into it the second time around. You have made a good start this time. Keep moving forward one day at a time. It does get easier as you go. The LIVE~IT'S Is a lifestyle because a real life style change is the only thing that is going to bring permanent good health.
emoticon I know that I will never have a body like this, but because of living a healthier life, I am better able to accomplish those things that I need and want to do in this life. emoticonThis is the success that I pray you will find! emoticon
Keep on SPARKING and cultivating those WILDFLOWERS! emoticon

Great blog - I LOVE your background picture, gorgeous! I have semi curly hair and always hated it as a kid. I wear my hair up and cover it with a prayer covering. On humid days I get these tiny corkscrew curls along my neck that always make me smile :o)

I agree with Skunky about the goals. Sometimes my goals for the day are just to eat 5 fruits and veggies. I don't worry about not eating the rest of the junk, just adding in the good stuff. And breaking down big goals into smaller chunks always helps me too.

I have been in SparkPeople since March 2010. It has been an slow, but steady, very productive, journey. I made it one step at a time, one thing at a time, one mini goal at a time, one mini personal challenge at a time; baby steps have made it for me. I have been getting stronger, healthier, my confidence on me is back, I had a good taste of accountability, and I am doing it one step at a time. This is a doable journey, one step at a time, even one hour at atime, just think of doing it for the next hour and start tasting the success and joy it brings. I embrace you with my friendship and support, remember we are here to support you, to walk this journey with you, to motivate you, and cheer with you as you go stronger. You can do this, and together we will do this.

I used to set my goals so high that it was impossible to meet them. Then when I didn't quite reach them I considered myself a failure and just quit all together. Now I've learn (thanks to Sparkpeople) that you can set short term goals and eventually it will lead you right to your long term ones. Step by step...one pound at a time. And the great thing about it is I have all these wonderful Live~its helping me each step/pound of the way. I think you are on the right track. emoticon
So enjoy the journey...I sure am!

Oh BTW I agree with your #7. I am so glad it is warmer. Our winter seemed like it would never end. Finally we have sunshine and warmth. And even though it is hot I keep reminding myself that it beats snow, freezing cold, ice, and dark, gloomy days!!
