Small accomplishments make a BIG difference

Friday, July 29, 2011

This morning I put on a pair of jeans that I had not worn in some time and to my surprise I was able to slip them on, zip and button and had room left, in addition once I got to work and sat down the jeans did not roll below by belly fat. I know this sounds strange but I can notice the difference and damn it it fells good. So even though I have hit a plateau and I am not losing pounds I can certainly tell I am losing inches, and I have to pat myself on the back because I passed up on the Krispy Kreme donuts someone brought into work.

I was a baker years ago and my favorite saying to justify the way I looked was, " A skinny baker is bad advertising!" So I know how hard it is to pass on the baked goodies.

Blood Donation Failure - Results

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Well I called the doctor and advised that I had a low iron count and was unable to donate blood and in addition had experienced episodes of dizziness. The doctor ordered a CBC and wanted to see me in his office in a few days. Fast forward, I saw the doctor and he advised my labs were all perfect and the explanation he gave for my dizziness is "VERTIGO", which from my research and his explanation its a viral infection that resolves itself, he did however put me on a med that would lessen the effects of the dizziness as they arise. The dizziness subsided but turned into a low grade headache which has now resolved itself, so all is well he did advise the dizziness could return from time to time and if it does I have the meds. Well at least their was an explanation not sure that I like it but it is what it is and "this to shall pass" have a good day all and let's Spark on.

I used to donate blood. All was well until I tried to donate back in 2005 after having had a stroke. When they did the finger prick I found out I was anemic. Thought it was a once in a lifetime issue. Nope. My blood count continued to drop and I have been anemic since. No more donating blood for me.

Blood Donation Failure

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

I am bummed because I was not able to donate blood today. I look forward to this every 3 months or so because this is my one way of giving back to the sick and vulnerable, the reason I could not give blood today was because my Hemoglobin was only 10.6 and for those that don't know the normal range for females is 12.1 to 15.1, in addition I have been having dizzy spells and this explains this as well. I was in the doctors office just this last Friday, not 5 days ago and I neglected to tell the doctor of the dizziness thinking it was not a big deal and now I guess it is. I have had low iron issues in the past which have been resolved and now I need to figure out what is causing this issue, how naive of me not to mention this to the doctor. Well I have since taken my first step I have contacted the dr's office to advise, lets hope all is well.

Yep, you definitely need to get to the cause of that and get some correction. I had the same problem before my hysterectomy. Mine was just due to my cycle being crazy. The hysterectomy fixed that...but I had to get a few blood transfusions to up my hemoglobin before I could have the surgery. Now that I'm over a year past my surgery, I've started giving blood...like you...my way of "giving back." Wishing you the best. Thank you for your encouragement! I hope you're having a great weekend! Keep up the good work! Spark on! emoticon

It's great you care about others enough to try and donate your blood. Hopefully the dizziness is caused in from what you described. Have tried to give blood but can't because I start feeling weird/dizzy right as they're taking it from me.

Please take good care of yourself, keep your iron up and your water intake high and all the best to you :)

Hey, at least you tried donating and now know a possible culprit for your dizzy spells. Get checked out, feel better, and you'll be able to donate another day. Thank you for being a donor!

I've been having problems getting to the donation centers lately.....once for low hemo (note to self: don't attempt to donate the very first day you're eligible!), another due to mixups at the donation center - and I had another opportunity denied to me as I'll be out of the area :( - not being able to donate REALLY bums me out, as I'm sure it does for you.....

More than likely the hemoglobin issue can be easily resolved......just be patient.....
