2 Year Anniversary

Sunday, January 17, 2010

This is off the cuff - not thought out so I don't know what will come.
When I weighed in today I realized I have been here for 2 years now. I am down 34 pounds from 2008. Now what I was hoping for at the time I joined but I guess I am really very pleased with myself. I have been a bit lower on the scale - I think my lowest in this time span is 178#.

My feet feel better than they did 2 years ago and walking around the neighborhood is much easier, my pants fit better, my face looks better - so does my butt! My husband lost 20 #. but we both need to drop some more of this disgusting fat! Now I now we can.

I see the orthopedic doc next week about my back and I am sure she will encourage me to loose some weight. It has not been easy and the past 8 months I have been stalled out around 180 - up - down -up - down or forward - backward. I am glad to now SparkPeople is always there for me and I feel safe talking about these things here.

Jan 17, 2011 I will be at goal (not sure what that measurement is right now) and happy to be here once again. emoticon

Holiday Blues

Saturday, January 09, 2010

I am so glad the holiday season is over! Since Nov I found some of the fat I lost. UGH. But I am back to walking and making the better choices on food and water and activities. I learned just how weak I am around food and how easy it is to ignor all the things I learned over the past 2 years about my food attitude. I am ready to reach my goal of 160 by July. I feel so much better already just by blogging. Best wishes to all of us! emoticon

Habits

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

My personal "Make a Better Choice" campaign has started to become a habit as I discovered today. After grocery shopping today at about 11:00 a.m. I was hungry but yet ready for lunch and started looking for a snack. I ended up with an apple and half a cucumber on my plate. I added a little fat free thousand island dressing and there it was - a healthy snack. I did not even look for "bad snacks" knowing they are not in the house but I am sure I am creative enough to have invented something bad for me -you know like mixing up some butter, sugar and cocoa in a cup and spreading in on a cracker or frying up a corn tortilla and putting salt and hot sauce on it - not that I would ever have done such a thing in my old condition.

It is easier when the stuff is not in the house. My husband asked me to stop buying peanut butter and I banned cheese so we are in pretty good shape. I just don't buy it anymore so we just don't eat it. I have found it tastier and easier to eat at home than try to eat out. My mind just thinks about what kind of a healthy meal I can prepare. What a good habit! emoticon

How Lifestyle Change Has Helped My Chickens

Monday, August 10, 2009

I have 7 hens and 2 roosters to help keep our family in fresh free-range eggs year round. I usually get enough eggs to share with family. Every now and then the girls are off schedule due to the weather but they general do a great job for us. We are not always able to let them out of their coop/pen to roam the yard because we have coyotes roaming the neighborhood for just that type of opportunity (a yummy fresh chicken dinner!) My husband put up an electric fence for just that reason and I feel better about letting them out in the yard now.

Since I have been eating so more fresh fruit and veggies my chickens have been so happy to see me coming with the little white bucket full of trimming! When they are out in the yard and they hear me smack the bucket against the fence they come running from different directions. Have you ever seen chickens run? It is kind of funny. Since most of the green weeds and plants have turned brown here is SoCal they are very happy to get the greens. I enjoy sharing and I get the most beautiful dark yellow yolked (I don't think that is a real word) eggs to eat in return. If you have room for a hen or two you should try it. Backyard farming is very rewarding! My chickens and I are healthier for it.

OMG...we have backyard chickens too! LOL!
There is absolutely nothing like a deep yellow-yolked (let's make it a word!), fresh egg.

Pink Pants

Friday, August 07, 2009

I have been wearing blue jeans or black slacks just about every where I go for years. Today I am wearing PINK jeans. WOW! This was not a goal of mine but I am sure glad I am doing it. I guess I have lost enough weight now that a few people have commented on it and that is very rewarding. My goal of 160#s is in sight and I feel confident of making it. I just need to keep doing what works, keep making better choices and keep moving. emoticon
