Kittens - 2 weeks on

Thursday, December 15, 2011

Here they are !
Well, between them and work, Ive been SUPER busy !
Also, Otto (black kitten) has been sick with the flu and Ive been hand feeding him. Also they are all on meds for the flu so I have to give that twice a day to all of them.
Other than that, they are doing really well. Amber is a really good mum. We have finally enclosed our back yard, so now the cats have free reign out there ! I feel happier knowing that they are safe in there and cant wander off.
So, I will try and keep you updated.... sorry Im not around a lot at the mo... Im still trying to eat well ... trying being the operative word !! LOL

    They are So cute!

But...have been volunteering with the RSPCA and one of my jobs is pickup and deliver little stray cats every day to foster carers. They don't like being put in a cage (now would I!) but after 3 months of scratches and bites I am no longer a cat lover :( In fact I HATE doing that part of the volunteering LOL

BUT go you for enclosing the yard - so many people just let them out to kill wildlife and roam free - I am proud of you for being responsible about them.

xo

KITTENS !!!!!! (with pics)

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Yesterday morning my cat Amber went into labour. To cut a long story short, she started labouring at around 9am and was finished by around 2pm. She had 6 GORGEOUS babies !! I was there through the whole process and felt so privileged to experience it. It was AMAZING ! Amber did SO well.... Considering she is young herself and this was her first litter...she had me in AWE. So.... heres some pics
emoticon

She decided to have her kittens under our bed in my husbands duffle bag... I had to take the clothes out of it and move it from under the bed. Today they are looking lovely and fluffy and mum looks really content. I think I suffered the most ! My back is sore after sitting on the floor most of the day with her ! LOL
So... sorry this post isnt weight related....but I just had to share

Congratulations!

Run Geelong 6k ( LOTS OF PICS !!! )

Monday, November 21, 2011

Well.... the day was PERFECTION ! The previous day had been REALLY bad with rain and thunder storms...so I was relieved not to have to run/walk in that !!

My sister came at about 7.30am and we took some pics in the driveway before we left....
Im the red ninja
emoticon
We are a little crazy...but we know how to have fun ! We also had our bubbly wands instead of ninja swords....

emoticon
So off we went..it only took about 15 minutes to get to the start area. It was at a place here called Skilled Stadium (or Kadinia Park as we call it) and its where our local Football team practice. Now I have to say... Geelong Cats were Premiers this year.... of ALL the teams in Australia ! We've won it 3 times in the last 4 years...so they are a HUGE team over in Australia ! Anyway... I digress ...
The 12 k runners had left by the time we got there and started to line up.
11'000 people competed....thats right .... ELEVEN THOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUSAND !!!!!
This run also raised approx $45'000 for our local Geelong Hospital... so thats why there were so many entrants...it was for a worthy cause....
Heres some pics of while we were waiting......

Heres the outside of Skilled... you can see the large 'Cats Claws' on the outside of the building.

Then the 6 k runners left.... we had opted to do the 6 k walk...but... you could run if you wanted too.
About 15 minutes later.... we were OFF !!!

It was SOOOOOO AWESOME to be with all those people.... there were HEAPS of little kids with their parents...and they seemed to like the bubble ninjas :) As we walked, we made bubbles and the kids loved it... we were like the pied pipers with all the little kids following us !
We did the odd 'Ninja run' through the crowd.... but that was ok... we were Ninjas... people couldnt see us !!! LOL. We darted in and out... making bubbles as we went.
There were quite a few hilly areas as that is how Geelong is...so even tho we were walking with the odd run... I got quite puffed. I guess laughing the whole way didnt help either !!!
(We are a little nutty just quietly)... hehe. Hey... but if you cant have fun...what hope have you got !
(It certainly helped that I was wearing a mask.... )
emoticon
So... after laughing.... dancing.... jogging... and bubbling ... for quite a while...we were near the end and this meant walking the hallowed ground of Skilled Stadium. Thousands walked around the perimeter... it was weirdly quiet...so I just had to let out a loud

HIIIIIIIIIII YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!!
emoticon
Being a Ninja and all.... I just couldnt help it ! :D
Then....the finish was in sight ....

Walking in the Stadium...

The finish up ahead....

WE DID IT !!!!!!!
We were so happy and proud to finish... *phew*
Afterwards...there were some presentations for best costumes...and even tho were were nominated...we didnt win... (bummer) 4 guys in Teletubby costumes won

On stage !

We grabbed a free water and some fruit and also our complimentary race bag.... and hobbled off to the car !
We had SUCH a great time. I was SOOO tired...I had a nanna nap in the afternoon. Today Im feeling a bit sore in the feet and ankles....even my stomach is hurting !!! But I think thats from the laughing....HAHA.
My final time for the 6 k was 1:03:25. WOOO HOOO !!!!!!!

So...I actually started my new 'Plan' today....for reasons I shall soon reveal.
emoticon

This morning, after dropping my son at work, I came back and had my oats with blueberries, cinnamon and a little dried pineapple. T'was YUMMY ! I'm not working till 5pm so It gives me a chance to have a good healthy lunch too. I went shopping y'day and stocked up on heaps of good healthy meals and snacks. I did have a little problem with the bread. You guys in the US have 'whole wheat' but we dont really have that here in Oz. I asked a baker and was told that 'wholemeal' is pretty much the same, so I went with that.

Now, about y'day........

While I've been absent from Spark People, quite a lot has happened.... most just general life stuff.... a small portion has been health.
But 2 other things happened....

We adopted 2 shelter cats
emoticon

They are both around 12 to 18 months old...and female. They are also both Tortoiseshell (sp?)
One came from a shelter about an hour from here....and the other... Hubby and I drove 5 hours to pick her up.
I'm VERY much an advocate for non-kill shelters, which is why I chose to adopt rather that shop. I'm part of a group here that wants "Oscars Law" which is trying to abolish puppy farms in Australia. Anyway....thats ANOTHER story..... :)

The one that we drove to pick up, I only saw a picture of her on the shelters website and fell in love. So...to cut a LONG story short... shes here now and very happy.

Lately shes been a little 'funny'....couldnt quite put my finger on it. Now...keep in mind, its illegal here to sell a cat unless its been spayed or neutered. So....my SPAYED female has been acting weird, having some 'toilet' problems and is VERY VERY smoochy.
Y'day I took her to the vet..... one x-ray later.... I'm told shes...

PREGNANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To say I was shocked is an understatement !

How could this happen ???? Shes been 'fixed' !!!!

So, after recovering and talking to my sister, I rang the lady that sold her to me...and (to cut ANOTHER long story short !!!) she will pay for all vet bills I will incur, INCLUDING having her spayed !!

So in a couple of weeks I'm gonna have maybe up to 5 kittens in the house.... I hope all goes well with the birth... I'm a little worried....
I'm actually a little excited ! Little babies in the house....

You can make ALL the plans in the world...but sometimes fate throws a spanner in the works. Lucky I'm a pretty easy going person !!! LOL

So I will keep you all posted on how MY plan goes....and also how Amber goes with her pregnancy. Might even post some pics of the birth !

Have a GREAT day friends !!!!!

That is the coolest!!! We foster for the local non-kill animal shelter and we always got the "bottle babies" - the kittens who did not have a mom to nurse from and needed to be bottle fed. I also helped a foster cat deliver her kittens (6 of them!) in my den closet... Well - really just soothed her and monitored it, she did all the hard work. I ended up having to raise those kittens (unfortunately) because she was just too small to have a litter that big and got very sick afterward, so I bottle fed the six kittens every 3 hours round the clock (for two weeks and then they could sleep through the night)
Best thing ever to have kittens in the house and watch them grow!!! You will LOVE it!!!!!!
