Today marks my second anniversary with the Simple Diet. I started my weight loss journey on February 13, 2012. As with any journey, it has had ups and downs.
The Ups! - I've lost 103 pounds and my life has changed in ways that I still canít fully process. I can shop where ever I want. No more wide shoes; Iím wearing boots and heels! Even yesterday, I was standing in a department store check out line when I noticed that the clerk was a former student. I recognized her immediately; she didn't recognize me until I handed her my (old picture) driverís license. Then it was ďOMG Ms Kain, you look great!Ē Even today, itís still hard to hear such compliments.
The Downs! Ė I had my gallbladder removed at the end of September 2013. Because of the surgery, I stopped exercising, then the diet went to hell and some of the weight came back. I went back to the basics with the Simple Diet (as Dr Jim recommends in the book) and the weight was soon gone!
How has my life changed?
Iím definitely making better food choices. On most days I drink two shakes, eat two entrees and eat 5+ fruits/vegetables per day. I also eat a ďregularĒ meal. I started participating in Meatless Mondays and find that I donít have to have meat every day. Donít get me wrong Ė I eat out occasionally; but I definitely try to limit it to once per week. Even then, I check their menu in advanced or I order a meal without the sauces, butter or other fatty condiments. Iím sure those servers hate to see me coming!
I never imagined saying publicly - I LOVE EXERCISING. I have about 25+ exercise DVDs at home. I have weights, resistance bands, exercise balls and even a jump rope which come in very handy (especially today because of the snow). At the gym, I can be found in Water Aerobics, Body Combat, RIPPED and Zumba classes. In September I ran my second 5K; I even decreased my time. I recently completed the Zumba Instructorís course. Iím now licensed to teach Zumba. I continue to use SparkPeople and my Fitbit to track my food and exercise.
I turned 50 in October and threw myself a party. The dress I wore was definitely smaller than the one I wore when I was 40. I have a few more pounds to lose but Iím not stressing. Iím enjoying every moment of my new life!
