LOOKING FORWARD TO POT LUCK

Monday, December 07, 2009

Today turned out to be not too bad a day. I was busy, and the day seems to be going by so quickly. Isn't it always the case when you have things to do by a certain time that time just seems to go by so quickly. I am going to a pot luck at our church's Ladies' Bible Study. It's our last bible study night until after the New Year, so we always have a pot luck and just spend time visiting and enjoying each other's company. I have been so blessed since I joined this church, as I have never been able to get together with so many ladies before. My husband and I had 7 boys between us, and even our dog was a male (lol). This is the first time I have found a group of women I can spend time with and relate to. We have ladies of every shape and size and every age group. It is a wonderful group. Our Bible Study teacher is amazing, and she is such an inspiration and a mentor.
I am so looking forward to a relaxing evening. I have been feeling rather stressed out lately, maybe I'm spreading myself too thin. I know I will come home refreshed.

It is so important to take those moments of relaxation to refresh ourselves and nurture ourselves. I am glad you found a group that you can relate to. Enjoy the evening.

BLESSED SUNDAY

Sunday, December 06, 2009

I had a lovely day today. I started off going to church this morning. My husband and I went out for lunch after church. I then got a fruit basket together for my BIL who is in the hospital, and we went to visit him. He found out on Friday that he has cancer in one of his kidneys. The doctor said they would probably remove that kidney and hope the cancer doesn't spread elsewhere. They gave him all kinds of tests, but now he is in limbo. They don't went to let him go home, but they aren't doing too much with him in the hospital. He says he has an appointment with his doctor in the next day or two and he will find out what is going on. I told him to make sure someone is with him when he goes for his appointment so that he can make sure he understands exactly what is going on. He is 81 years old and sometimes he gets confused or forgets what was said. With all he has been through, it's no wonder. At least he was feeling good and he wasn't depressed. We had an enjoyable visit, and I spent the rest of the evening answering Santa Letters. All in all, it was a pretty good day.

HELP AND ENCOURAGEMENT WHEN NEEDED

Thursday, December 03, 2009

Had a relatively quiet day today. I'm still waiting on word about my brother-in-law. If I don't hear from my sister tomorrow I will call her and see how things are going. We are planning to see my brother -in-law on Saturday. I'll take him a big basket of fruit and some crossword puzzles to keep him busy. He loves getting fruit. That is healthier for him than a box of chocolates or cookes, etc.
He loves getting cards, so I will make sure I find a nice card for him as well.
I passed on his name to my church group, and we have a prayer chain going for him. That's one thing I love about my church, no matter what your situation you can always get help from someone. Everyone is so caring and loving. That's one of the reasons i love SparkPeople so much as well. I have received so much encouragement in my weight loss journey that it makes me feel like I really can do this. Thanks SparkPeople.

I love the saying "What goes around comes around." Although some times it is used in a negative way I think it describes a prayer circle beautifully. What a powerful thing that is. How lucky your family is to have such a supportive and considerate person, you, to support and pray for them. I know that you will be strong and continue your path to good health and weight loss. You have a lot of friends here praying for you and your family too, so the circle is larger than you could have imagined. Take care.

BAD NEWS

Wednesday, December 02, 2009

I received some bad news from my sister today. She told me that her husband has kidney cancer. The doctors plan to operate on him and remove his kidney completely, and they hope that this will get rid of all the cancer before it spreads. My brother-in-law has gone through a lot over this past year. He has been in and out of the hospital numerous times with heart problems. He had a quadripple by-pass a few months ago, and now this. His heart is beating very slowly, so the doctors had him on an exercise regimen , i.e. walking around a track, to build his heart muscles and perhaps help his heart to beat faster. He was doing very well with that, and he had even lost over 20 pounds. The last time he went to work out he became very tired and achy, and my sister decided to take him to the hospital to get checked out. They found he had problems with his feet, ie planter faciliatis (I'm not sure how to spell it), and when they gave him an MRI, they found cysts in his kidney. After giving him an ultra-sound, they found not only cysts but a tumor as well. My sister and her husband celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. Of course, her husband was in the hospital on the day of their anniversary. This has not been a good year for them. My sister suffers from COPD and she too is often hospitalized with pneumonia or bronchitis. This sure puts a crimp in my Christmas spirit.

My prayers go to you and your family. What a difficult process to go through, especially at this time of year. You will be in my thoughts and I hope that things go well for your brother-in-law. Hugs. emoticon

Your family will be in my prayers. My dad had a kidney removed about 5 years ago, it was a difficult time. It will be hard, but with good support he will make it.

IT'S A GOOD DAY

Tuesday, December 01, 2009

Today was a pretty good day for me. It started off with my getting another massage this morning. This one felt wonderful. I didn't have the pain that I did last week. My back and neck are starting to feel so much better. The Massage Therapist gave me some exercises I can do to help stretch my muscles. I managed to eat healthy as well. When I entered all the information on the Nutrition Tracker, I found that I was good with my calories, and I had eaten enough, fat, folate, protein, carbs and calcium. I think this is the first day I have ever gotten everything right. I am generally always short on calcium, folate or protein, or I have gone over in fat. I am also going to do som exercises yet today. So all in all, this has been a very good day for me. One day at a time.
