FEELING TIRED

Friday, December 11, 2009

Things are starting to catch up with me. I have been doing a lot of volunteering at our church as well as answering several hundered Santa letters. I feel very tired today. I didn't do too much, I answered several Santa letters and just took it easy. Had to go out tonight to pick up a couple of things, and stopped to eat on the way home. Ate a health meal though. I have been trying to watch what I eat more than ever. It is so easy to go crazy with all the chocolate, candy, cakes, etc., available for Christmas. I think I'm just going to take it easy for the rest of the night. I'll finish reading the paper and then go to bet fairly early for me. My husband and I are volunteering at the church tomorrow. He is working security during their Christmas dinner, and I am helping with taking everything down and getting the sanctuary ready for church Sunday morning. He won't be doing to much to help with that, as the last time he tried to help he hurt his back. He is 70 years old, so I don't think he should be lifting tables and heavy chairs anyway. There are a lot of younger people who can do that. Hope to feel more rested tomorrow.

Am ready this as I drag myself into the day today. I have been sleeping through much of the last few days getting myself going only to teach and do the necessary things. So I know how you feel. Hope you perk up soon.

THE PERKS OF VOLUNTEERING

Thursday, December 10, 2009

Today was a pretty good day for me. I didn't have to do any major running around during the day, and I actually managed to finish addressing all my Christmas cards. Should have them all in the mail this weekend.
Another bonus today. I had signed up to volunteer to greet people as they came in to our church for one of our Christmas dinners for the people of the area.
The church was busy, everyone was having a great time getting things ready for the dinner. It was a pretty cold day today, and the temperature was around 40 below with the wind chills. Some of the people who were to come for the dinner didn't make it. The people in the area are very poor and some have no means of transportation. If they have little children, I'm sure they wouldn't want to walk too far in this weather. After I had done my bit greeting, one of the elders asked my husband and I to stay for dinner, as they had some extra spaces available.
Not only did I get to spend time meeting some of the people in the neighborhood and helping out my church family, I also had a lovely dinner and I didn't have to cook supper.

What a gift that evening was! We never know where our actions will take us and what will happen when we open our hearts to others. I'm glad you had such a nice time.

FEELING WONDERFUL

Tuesday, December 08, 2009

Had a wonderful time yesterday at the pot luck for our Women's Bible Study. About 40 people attended, and we had food from the Philippines, from Germany, some Ukrainian food, and good old Canadian food. It was marvelous. There were no duplicates, and there was a good selection of salads, main courses and desserts. We always marvel at what happens when we have one of these events.
I had a wonderful evening and as I knew I would, I came home refreshed.
To top the eveing off, I had a wonderful sleep. I managed to get to bed early and slept for 9 hours straight. Only woke up once when my husband's alarm went off. Managed to fall right back asleep. Because of that I felt wonderful today. Wish I could have this kind of day more often.

LOOKING FORWARD TO POT LUCK

Monday, December 07, 2009

Today turned out to be not too bad a day. I was busy, and the day seems to be going by so quickly. Isn't it always the case when you have things to do by a certain time that time just seems to go by so quickly. I am going to a pot luck at our church's Ladies' Bible Study. It's our last bible study night until after the New Year, so we always have a pot luck and just spend time visiting and enjoying each other's company. I have been so blessed since I joined this church, as I have never been able to get together with so many ladies before. My husband and I had 7 boys between us, and even our dog was a male (lol). This is the first time I have found a group of women I can spend time with and relate to. We have ladies of every shape and size and every age group. It is a wonderful group. Our Bible Study teacher is amazing, and she is such an inspiration and a mentor.
I am so looking forward to a relaxing evening. I have been feeling rather stressed out lately, maybe I'm spreading myself too thin. I know I will come home refreshed.

It is so important to take those moments of relaxation to refresh ourselves and nurture ourselves. I am glad you found a group that you can relate to. Enjoy the evening.

BLESSED SUNDAY

Sunday, December 06, 2009

I had a lovely day today. I started off going to church this morning. My husband and I went out for lunch after church. I then got a fruit basket together for my BIL who is in the hospital, and we went to visit him. He found out on Friday that he has cancer in one of his kidneys. The doctor said they would probably remove that kidney and hope the cancer doesn't spread elsewhere. They gave him all kinds of tests, but now he is in limbo. They don't went to let him go home, but they aren't doing too much with him in the hospital. He says he has an appointment with his doctor in the next day or two and he will find out what is going on. I told him to make sure someone is with him when he goes for his appointment so that he can make sure he understands exactly what is going on. He is 81 years old and sometimes he gets confused or forgets what was said. With all he has been through, it's no wonder. At least he was feeling good and he wasn't depressed. We had an enjoyable visit, and I spent the rest of the evening answering Santa Letters. All in all, it was a pretty good day.
