Mission: incinerate calories...

From this point last year I have lost 10 pounds. Although I am extremely thankful for not gaining weight back during that time (like I have many times in the past), I realize I MUST step up to the "plate" and begin incinerate some calories in order to reach my goal of 200 pounds (50 more pounds to go-total lose of 65 pounds in 2 years thus far). I am upset that I have only lost 10 pounds in the last year, after planning, exercising, watering, tracking and logging in every single day to Sparkpeople I have come to terms with it (I could do well for 3 weeks and fall off plan for 2 weeks etc....) I am moving on and not looking back at the last year as wasted but rather as a learning experience.
So... after much hesitation and back and forth I have decided to start the C25K program (I have been hearing about this program for the last 2 years). Today, was my first day so of course I am all motivated and exited...the true test will come when motivation runs out and pure determination is left. Everyday I complete a C25K workout I will update this blog. So, come back and check up on me....please. Haha.
Note: I will be doing this training on a treadmill not outdoors (yet) during my lunch break from work.
I downloaded the C25KFree app 20 mns before heading to the gym. It allows you to utilize your own playlist while getting audio cues prompting you to begin running and stopping. I thought it could be helpful so I did not focus on the clock.

Wk 1 Day 1: 5/16/2012 (252.9 pds)
Worked up a nice sweat. Felt good before and after. No pain except my personal dislike for running. During running intervals treadmill was set at 4.4 (jogging ;) during walking intervals (including warm up and cool down) was set at 3.0. NO incline. I was not bored out of my mind as anticipated. I listened to a pre-set playlist on my iphone the entire time while watching food network on the treadmill tv. The newly downloaded app worked wonderfully and I enjoyed not having to stress over the clock. I HIGHLY recommend it (thus far...although I realize I have only used it once).

Wk 1 Day 2: 5/17/2011
Intervals were set at 4.6 for running and 3.0 for walking. Listened to playlist thru C25Kfree app again. Still loving that app. No clock watching, allows for peaceful day dreaming and thinking. Worked up a great sweat, so much so that earbuds were sliding out. I had to force myself to get to gym. I was coming up with excuses not to go but managed to overcome and "just to it". As always, glad I did and felt accomplished afterwards.

Wk 1 Day 3: 5/18/12 (250.4 pds)
Run intervals: 4.6 Walk Intervals: 3.2
Did not have to talk myself into going today. I was looking forward to it. Worked up a good sweat. Wore different shoes today (since my fav pair of 13 years are now holy as of yesterday). Foot was sliding in shoes and under foot was burning. I still dislike running/jogging and I don't think it will ever change. On to week 2...

WK 2 Day 1: 5/22/2012
Run: 4.6 walk: 3.0 Used app. Wish you could listen to pandora thru app and not just your playlist. Anywoo, today was rough. It had been 3 days since the last run and I ate junk for the last 2 days, well over my calorie allowance (was my bday-I know, no excuse). Worked up a great sweat but mid way through I did not think I could finish. I had to push myself mentally and physically. It does not give me much hope to successfully complete week 3 and beyond.

Wk 2 Day 2: 5/23/12
Runs: 4.6 (2 @ 5.0 and 1 @ 4.8) Walks: 3.2
Not as rough as yesterday but I still can not envision myself running 3 mns straight next week. I still do not like running. It is boring, hard on your body and mind. Heart rate got up to 170 after first interval run at 5.0.

Wk 2 Day 3: 5/25/12 (248.7 pds)
Runs: 4.8 Walks: 3.2
Went fine. Worked up a good sweat. Still wondering how I will manage jogging more than 90 seconds. It is soo hard.

Wk 3 Day 1: 5/29/2012
Runs: 4.6 Walks: 3.0
Was actually looking forward to this one as I was very curious to see if I could be able to run for 3 mns without stopping. I managed but barely. HR was 172. Never sweated as much as of today. Was extremely hard (more mentally I believe).

Wk 3 Day 2: 5/30/2012
Runs: 4.6. Walks: 3.2
Still very difficult to run the 3 mns none stopped. Managed but it is a struggle.

Wk 3 Day 3: 6/5/2013
Runs: 4.6. Walks:3.0
Has 5 days since last session but I finished. But was the most difficult session to date probably because it had been 5 days and my food choices were not the greatest. I will do 2 additional 2 sessions from wk 3 to finish off this week then next week I will attempt wk 4 ... But I do not hold out much hope of completing a full session.

    Great Job!! That app sounds awesome! I started C25K in 2010 and got to week 7 I think and I was a "clock-watcher" for sure and it messes with you for sure so I think when I'm ready to restart the program I will use that app for sure! Congrats again on starting something new...I'm with you, I'm not a fan of running but once you get past the 1st week you will feel so accomplished and want to go on...I didn't finish the program for my own reasons but I think it's a great program!

    Although frustrating, losing 10 is way better than gaining! I think you have a great plan, and I WILL be checking up on you = ) I didn't like running when I first started either. I restarted my "running thing" and I really am starting to enjoy it. One step at a time! You've got this!

    Losing is better then gaining 10 lbs....You have to think of it that way and have you measured yourself i can imagine with all your working out you probably lost alot of inches..Let em know..

When having a bad day...please review (pic)

Dear Fizzyball,
When you are having a bad day, doubting your strength and reasons why, please review the below:
You have been more active since you have begun this adventure in June 2010 then you have been in the last 10 years. Just look at the fun fill days you've had since getting off the couch.
1. Took up Zumba in June and enjoy it still today. You, inviting your Mom and bestfriend to join a class inspired them to begin their own weight loss adventure.
2. You and your Husband have been hiking a few times in the mountains, enjoyed healthy picnics while being surrounded by beautiful waterfalls and wildlife.

*Your last hike at @ 270 pds. in Feb 2011.
3. You took a cruise in December 2010. While cruising you still tracked NEVER took the elevator ONLY stairs. Went to the gym and completed your first 5k walk while on the ship.

*Enjoyed the picturesque beach without being self conscious.
4. You went water tubing in August 2010. You were scared, came up with many excuses why a big girl should not do it. BUT you did it and had a great time.
5. You took a road trip to Fort Lauderdale (October 2010). You went deep sea fishing on a small boat and went swimming in a regular bathing suit with no cover up.

6. You visited the Biltmore House (January 2011) and WALKED every trail and CLIMBED every stair there without your back/feet hurting or getting exhausted.

7. You had the guts and stemina to have fun and climb up a blow up slide in front of a crowded gym.

8. You went snow tubing and CLIMBED up the mountain more times than taking the lift back up. We were worried you were not going to fit in the tube but you gave it a go and again you had fun.

9. In addition to Zumba you have tried yoga and pilates. Despite being the biggest girl there you go, do your best and enjoy it.
10. During your lunch hour, instead of shopping/going out to eat and spending hard earn money you go to your complimentary gym and enjoy some YOU time and a nice steam ;)
11. You have enjoyed being in the kitchen creating healthy and delicious dinner for your husband and yourself.
12. You are getting closer to a healthier BMI meaning you are getting closer to qualifying for IVF.
13. You are already making fun filled plans for the near future like getting on a plane in June something you have not done in over 17 years and zip lining in May (you still have a lil' ways to go to get to the weight limit but you are work toward this goal).
14. You and your family went to an indoor shooting range something you could have never done before. That same weekend we went to your local high school and played 30 mns of tennis while others were playing and it did not phase you.
15. On 4-12-2011, you got on a plane. Something you had not done in 17 years. You were scared about fitting in seat or needing a seatbelt extender but you fit and did not need an extender. YAY.

16. You flew to Universal Studios with your sister and got on almost all the roller coasters. Again you were concerns about fit but you managed. You had to use the "modified" seating on some coasters but before you could have not fit on any.

17. Played laser tag at a Frankie's Fun park on 8/20/11. Equipement fit and I had a blast depsite getting low score but our team won in the end.
18. When to my first corn maze on 10.15.11 with hubby, Mom and Sister at NIGHT. Two hours later we found our way out. Had a great time.

19. Hubby and I went for to vacation to Hilton Head, SC for some relaxation early October 2011. Every morning, we walked the beach (@2 miles), enjoyed some good food and BIKED (first time for Hubby and I during our 17 yrs together). It was just an active and fun vacation.

*Unfortunately, we have no pictures of us on the bikes but here are the bikes. lol
20. On 11/19/20011, Hubs and fam went to our first Opera "cosi con futte" at our local cultural center. We enjoyed the experiences. The sits were still a lil' tight but much more comfortable than a year ago. :) @249 pds.

Yes it is the hardest thing you have ever done. It is lonely at times and overwhelming but only 7 months in you have benefited so much. Your confidence and joie de vivre is back. You welcome and seize every day by challenging yourself and conquering your fears. So keep on keeping on because you know you can do it. I will keep updated this letter as you continue writing your new adventures. Have fun and don't take moments and your people for granted.

Hike with pic

On Sunday, Husband and I went hiking. I was inspired by my fellow Sparkers to not take any day for granted and seize all opportunity to move. So off we went to complete our first 2 mile hike in the mountains. Elevation went up 500 ft during the 2 mile hike so not horrible but still very challenging for a former couch potato like myself. The scenery was splendid, the humidity torrid but the feeling of accomplishment finishing our goal was fantastic. After the hike we enjoyed a light picnic lunch. Here is the only pic I took:
