Defeated

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

I have started 11 weeks ago with my daughter in a local Biggest Loser Challenge. We are in the final stretch and just one week to ago. Then the red carpet reveal finale of the top losers in weight and inches. Last week I had a 3 pound lost and was very excited, because I was two pounds away from getting out of the 250's. Well, yesterday I got on the scale and had a 1.4 gain. My heart had immediately sank the ground. I had to pay up my one dollar for my gain. I'm so, tired my body feeling comfortable at this weight. I've been pushing hard to get beyond this for so, long. I went to bed silently crying and still feel the same this morning. I didn't feel like exercising, but I did walked in my neighborhood. As I walked I just couldn't find anything positive to think about myself. I'm in mourning with myself in being defeated. A part of me ask, Why do I continue to try? Deep down inside I know I'm not down yet. I'm not where I want to be with this issue. I still have work to do and, "Defeat" is not an option.

You can SO do this! Like any journey there are the ups and downs but I know the downs can be hard. I don't know what you do for cardio, but if you haven't done so, try some High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), you'll burn calories longer and can put in less time. It's very effective. You are definitely on your way, please keep up the great work!!! Rooting for you!!!

Wow, that's a hard situation. I think a lot of people understand your frustration.

I keep looking up set points and stalls on the internet, because I'm having the same problem. According to the scale (he's no longer my friend), I won't lose and won't lose and won't lose for a long time, and then out of nowhere, I'll lose a few pounds.

And then it'll go back up, from what I can only imagine is water, since I'm not eating enough calories to have gained that much weight. It's so frustrating!

I think the only thing we can do is persevere and never give up. emoticon

Remember, you're on this program for the rest of your life.

If you achieve your goal in two years, what difference does it make if on a given weighing you missed your target? On the other hand, if you had lost 5 pounds and weighed the same as you do now, what difference would that have made?

* You can be on program, and sometimes appear to gain weight.
* You can be off program and sometimes appear to lose weight.

The key is to keep after it, and when things don't go well for a few weeks, to seek out what may be causing the issue.

* Bad assumptions on quantities of food?
* Bad assumptions on calories in particular foods?
* Bad assumptions on what a particular exercise is burning?
* Increased salt intake?
* Random fluctuations?
* Increased muscle mass due to strength training?
* Plateau of some sort requiring variation in diet or exercise?

Remember, your commitment is to YOU, not some hokey contest or challenge!

You can do it!

Express the negative feelings by walking them off or some other physical activity like cleaning or organizing something. Then kick the negative stuff to the curb and continue working on your goals again.

emoticon exercise is a great way to beat up the defeated attitude. just put effort into not overeating or doing something else to hurt yourself in the long run.

Stop the negative self talk ASAP. That will do you no good whatsoever. To get past this you have to know you CAN get past it. You are worth getting past it. You will do the work to get past it and see yourself past it already. let those be the feelings that push you. 1.4 lbs is nothing. That could just be a day of too much sodium. That does not define who you are or take away what you have accomplished. YOU CAN DO THIS!

OK. Let's just say it: THAT SUCKS! Now kick the couch. It's NOT FAIR! Now throw yourself face first on the bed: kick your feet and punch your firsts for as long as you can and SCREAM into the pillow.

I'm not making fun of you: seriously: DO IT. You can use that release. (and the exercise all that punching and screaming will give you!)

Now breathe. you're ok. You're ok. you're ok.

Take inventory: did you do everything you could to do well this week?

Yes? Then what's going on? Too much salt? Is this water weight? Lots of exercise? Is this muscle weight?

No? Well..do a little better this week.

And yes, there is a such thing as your body being comfortable at a certain weight: it's called set point. I was involved in a research study some years back that showed this: but your "set point" can be re-set.

This is a defeat in your head and in your heart. It's literally painful, but you can overcome by trudging ahead and trusting that you can do this.

One more time: you CAN do this.

And just for good measure: YOU can do this!!

Now, my stupid little wii fit plus says there's a normal variance of 2lbs a day. And from experience, that can be time weighed, what you ate before you went to bed, liquids consumed, etc. But hey, go for it...this can be your big excuse! I mean your daughter doesn't need your Spark too, does she?

We've all been there! I've been working out 5 days a week and tracking every calorie and have only seen the scale move up.... it's VERY discouraging and we all get that! The difference is, none of us can give up! Quitting makes it permanent!
We all get comfortable at whatever weight we are at, because that is the easy place to be! It doesn't take much work stay in one spot! But we all have to keep moving and keep working to make a change! Slow and steady wins the race!
Most of us have used something (starving ourselves, pills, etc) to try a "magic cure"... only to have the weight come back in full force and usually plus some more! Fat is a formable foe! It doesn't want to lose! But if we keep gradually chipping away at it, it does lose and we win!
So you've had your bad day! We've all been there! Chin up and get moving again! We are here to support you when we can! Let us know when you get to your own Biggest Loser Moment!

I can see three positive things about you just from reading your blog! 1) You are a great inspiration to your daughter 2) you are amazingly strong, because you walked even after your great disappointment and 3) "defeat" is not in your vocabulary!!!

You are doing great!!!

We're all there a lot of times, usually I just think "If I stop doing this I will gain weight for sure and feel horrible about myself, if I keep doing this I will feel good about myself because I am tryingand maybe lose some weight along the way". I stopped weighing myself because I got so depressed when I didn't see ANY change or a sudden gain. I only weigh myself monthly and so far that has worked well for me because monthly you will usually see change, and even if the change is little it will still motivate you to keep going :)

We're our own worst critics. Your goals are worthwhile and important, setbacks happen, the question is, how do we respond to them?

Don't let negativity win, you took a great step by "walking it off" instead of throwing in the towel emoticon , that shows great character!

These are the toughest times to get through and easiest times to quit. . Please keep pushing .. it will get better .. You have to work it out..Go back look at all the positive thing that you have accomplished.. BE PROUD you work so hard.. Think YOU ARE WORTH IT !! IF your daughter felt the way you do .. what would you tell her to encourage her. You would want her to fight through it and I am sure she wants you to also.. because every day even with a walk your doing good things for your body.. the place your soul lives.. Take care and know it will get better.. IT won't be easy , but it will be Worth it .. as the saying goes..

I know it's hard to imagine - but so many people have been there. You step on the scale, you know you've worked hard, you know you're tracking your food and BAM - weight gain! And just like you enough of us have been ready to give up, have felt defeated - have let ourselves get off course for a meal, a day, a week.

The honest truth is weight loss isn't easy (you know this) and sometimes the scale isn't going to tip the right way for you that week. But remember - it is not about the week - it is about a lifetime.

Good for you for being an inspiration for your daughter! Use her, and this, as inspiration to push even harder before your next weigh in!

Childhood Flashback

Sunday, December 02, 2012

Yesterday I stop by the Sunco to get a coke cola. In the meantime I saw this man talking to someone as I was going inside. After, I left the store the gentleman approach me and was informing me that he sales Amway. I told him that my grandmother use to sell that product along with other natural products. It's nothing new to me. So, he proceed to tell me about the Carb Blocker and after that he had the nerve to say, "I think the Slimming Product would be something your interested in, because I noticed you as you walked by". Who do he think he is to judge me, because I was not at society weight standard and suggest a Slimming product for me. That immediately took me back in time when somebody did that to me when I was 13. When I got home I put those papers right in the trash can.

Maybe the guy uses this technique to stay in shape, because one day someone is going to take off after him, and he better be in shape. emoticon

The world is packed with doofusses. You've got your program and goals, and you're moving forward. emoticon

However, if you're looking for ideas:

The next time, if you see him, tell him, he needs to "eat his own dog food", as they say in marketing. Then, suggest he try an Amway Industroclean enema, because clearly he's not "regular". emoticon

Zumbaholic

Friday, October 26, 2012

This morning as I went to the gym. I was looking forward to another day of Zumba. Well, I was surprise to see a male instructor with a Mohawk, but let me tell you. It was the best class I've had since I started going to a group class. The energy was off the chain and right up my alley. The lady next to me asked, if I always this energize in the morning. Yes, I am. I'm just a morning person. I was going to go to the 8 o'clock class tonight, but my body is really tired and I'm going to listen. I've been at Zumba four days this week. I will be back again tomorrow for another Zumba class. I'm additive! No stopping me now. I found my rhythm and loving it.

5k Highs and Lows

Monday, September 17, 2012

On Sunday, I did my 5k for Race To End Childhood Obesity. This didn't go as well as I planned it. I had plan to run the entire course, but that didn't happen. I trained several days a week running 3 miles in my neighborhood. However, this course was a Cross Country Terrain. Well, I never train for that surface. I was winded and actually struggled to complete the course. Twice I almost just threw in the towel and say forget. Then it was three people that had passed my sister and I. The lady turned around after a few minutes and said, "I was last last year ". I told my sister I didn't like her comment and I'm not going to be last, well I just couldn't recovery from the heat and humidity and I did come in last. I usually fine races that is early in the mornings. This one started a noon. I've always been a morning person when it comes to exercising, and I tend to struggle with later workouts. Well, I guess I'm going to have to change that and really work on it. So, yes I'm still bum this morning about it. Well the one thing good that came out of it is that I shaved 4 minutes off my time. I have another 5k next month for Breast Cancer. I have no doubt that I will not do well, because I have walked, jogged, and biked on this trail. I will start training on the trail tomorrow and recover from Sunday's disappointment. At the end of ceremony they had announced that they had someone come from very far distance to participate in the event and mention the county in which I live. Thanks for your support. Keep It Moving! Too Keep On Losing!

Can't Wait

Thursday, September 06, 2012

I've signed up for 2 more emoticon and the first one is on September 16. It is for RACE- Race To End Childhood Obesity. I will be traveling almost 80 miles to participate in this event. I feel like I just need to be there for all of us that has this struggle, but most important for the kids. And, maybe somehow I can make a difference in somebody else life. The second emoticon is for Breast Cancer emoticon . My neighbor had 2 sisters that passed away from breast cancer. He has told me that he admires my commitment, and determination with exercising and applauds me. He would like to find a walk for breast cancer. Well today while I was out doing some errands I came across a flyer on a emoticon in October. I promised him that I would walk with him in honor/memory of his 2 sisters. He was so, happy when I gave him the registration form today. He said, "I've been praying on this". I'm happy that I was able to find this information for him and it's local. It will be at one of the locations that I go walking, running, and biking for exercise. This will be my 5th emoticon that I signed up for the year.
