New Goals for the next 21 days

Sunday, September 09, 2012

I read somewhere that it takes approximately 21 days to create a habit. So this is my 2nd set of goals I will work on for the next 21 days or so. I will track them and update my progress weekly. I will continue to work on my last goals because some of them were fun and easy for me to incorporate into my daily life. Others were not so easy so I will revisit those at another time but I will still try to do as much as possible without overwhelming myself. I am convinced these small steps will lead to my better healthy lifestyle.

Here are my goals for the next 21 days:

1. Walk 15 mins a day
2. Do a workout video 1 times a week
3. Read to Greyson nightly
4. Limit 1 Soda per week
5. Weigh in 1 time per week
6. Take vitamins daily
7. Wear sunscreen daily
8. Personal study 1 time per week
9. Pray nightly and before each meal
10. Eat 5 fruits and veggies daily

Well there they are. Wish me luck and I hope you all continue to reach your goals.

Goals Update Week 3

Sunday, September 09, 2012

Hi Everyone, I just finished week 3 of keeping track of my goals for this first 21 days. It went by so fast, I can't believe it has been over 21 days already. I don't think I am ready to set new goals but listening to myself has not worked for me in the past. So I am going to challenge myself and set some new goals. I did not do so well this past week with the goals I have now but that is not going to keep me from making progress. I can do this, I know I can. Well here is the results of this past week.

My Goals:
1. Walk 10 mins a day
2. Put make-up on 5 days out of the week
3. comb my hair everyday
4. Call a friend 3 times a week
5. Make to-do lists before bed every night
6. Do a work out video 1 time a week
7. Log onto SparkPeople daily
8. Write a Blog entry 3 times a week
9. Play with and cuddle my dogs 10-15 mins a day
10. Be a Happy Mommy

My Progress the past week

1. Walked 4 times
2. Make-up 5 times
3. Hair Everyday
4. Called 1 friend
5. Made 5 to -do lists
6. Zero workout videos
7. logged onto spark people everyday
8. Wrote 3 blogs
9. Played with my dogs everyday
10. Enjoyed special moments with my baby boy everyday

I didn't do so well this week but I had some obstacles. I can not focus on that so what I was successful at was putting make-up on 5 days out of the week and it made a difference on how I felt about myself and made it easier to get out of the house without feeling like crap. I did my hair everyday which sometimes I had to do twice a day with all the moving around and taking care of Greyson. I am in the habit of logging onto SP with no problem and it is encouraging to take time to think about health. I blogged 3 times which was hard some nights but it is a good outlet to get my thoughts together. I loved making time to spend with my dogs and I know they loved it too. The best part was purposely taking time to enjoy my baby boy. I would put the phone away and pretend there was no one else but us and nothing to do but play with Greyson. These goals made me aware of my actions and I can't wait to see what other changes I can make in my life.

Well thanks for reading and my apologies for the long blog. I hope you all have a great week ahead and focus on the positive.

Rewards for weight loss

Saturday, September 08, 2012

I have been thinking about the best way to organize this reward system and well here is what I came up with:

pounds = rewards
5 = Maybaline eye tattoo make-up and blush
10 = Sonia Kashuk make-up brush
15 = Avon rustic sweater
20 = Taylor Swift CD "Red"
25 = MAC or Sonia Kashuk make-up blender
30= A set of towels, wash cloths, and hand towels
35= Manicure and Pedicure
40= New Dress
45= New Skirt
50= Huggable Hangers
55= Manicure and Pedicure
60= Comforter for my bed
65= Caboodles Pro Cosmetic Case - silver
70= A Kelly Moore Camera Bag

I promise to myself that I will not buy any of these products until I reach my goal and not any sooner. I promise to myself that if I do not reach my goal I will not rationalize with myself to allow myself to buy these items. They are officially off limits until I reach my weight loss goal and maintain it for two weeks and forever. These rewards will be a reminder to myself of my accomplishments and will push me to try harder and to live a healthy life. I really want these items so I will work hard to get them. My punishment will be this promise to myself and I will never get these things if I never reach my goals.

I am excited to get these things and to get my life back. The energy and less pain I will feel when I am not carrying around all this extra weight. I will be the person I want to be. The person I feel like I am and soon my body will reflect that person.

Thanks for reading and I hope you all reach you health goals. Your success is my inspiration so keep up the great work.

    Thanks guys but I still have my size 12 clothes from when I was thinner. I kept them with hopes of losing weight. I don't have too many but I have enough to get me by. Now that I think about it I might still have a size 10 pair of pants, wishful thinking I guess. Plus I will have my clothes taken in as needed. Wow I can't wait to actually have that problem.

That is awesome you guys lost the weight you wanted! Not to say that I want my pants falling off in public :) Congrats to you guys. Keep up the good work.

    I would put your clothing rewards a little higher up the list if I were you - believe me, you WILL need them. My trou fell down when I had lost only 27lb - my daughter's with a little less - LOL!

To Weigh in or Not to Weigh in?

Wednesday, September 05, 2012

Hi Everyone, I hope you guys are doing good. Sometimes I wish I could comment on all you pages and blogs but just so you know I think about you and read them.

I have been playing with the idea of not weighing myself so much and just focus on creating healthy habits. What do you guys do? I find myself thinking about the number way too much but when I try not to step on the scale I end up doing it anyway. What is my problem, why can't I be happy that I am feeling good or went for my walk. I have to know if I lost any weight. I have to know if the effort I am putting in is paying off. Then I think the number shouldn't be so important. I should focus on how I am feeling or how my clothes are fitting. I am confused, what do you guys think?

My dilemma is should I weigh in every week or once at the beginning of the month and once at the end of the month. In my mind I think that I might lose more weight if I don't focus so much on the number the scale says. Maybe seeing one big number of weight lost as opposed to 2 lbs here and 3 lbs there will make me feel more of an accomplishment. I don't know what to do. I need to just make up my mind already. Please let me know what works best for you. Well thanks for listening to me ramble on. I hope you guys are reaching your goals. Keep the updates coming it is encouraging to see you all making progress. Have a good week of healthy habits.

    I have been weighing myself weekly just to see how things fluctuate with different meals or exercise. But I am going to start weighing myself weekly. I like the weekly weigh in because it isn't often enough to become obsessive, but it is often enough to make sure I am right on track or need to change something.
Good luck to you on finding what weigh in works for you!

    Sometimes people become fixated by a figure - what the scales say. When this happens, it tends to take over and rule their lives. I would be MORE inclined to go by how your clothes feel and your general energy/fitness level than put too much emphasis on what the scales say. If you eat good, healthy food, pay attention to your portions and the balance of your food, and get a good amount of exercise, AND stay well hydrated - mainly with water, then you won't go wrong. You are doing the best for your mind and body - the rest will follow. I USED to weigh about 1x month - it is over 3 months since I last weighed. I don't need to - I can feel where I am, altho' I will be weighing within a couple weeks so that I can put it on paper as a record.

Congrat's on your weightloss, too :-)

    Everyone is different in that aspect, but I used to weigh myself daily, but started obsessing about it, so I am going to weekly. If you could wait a month (I know I couldn't) that would potentially give you bigger loss. I am curious to see what other people say. :-)

Goals Update

Sunday, September 02, 2012

Hi Everyone! I just thought I would do a weekly update on my goals. I have been keeping track on what is working and what is not. So I think I am going to revise a couple of my goals.

My Goals:
1. Walk 10 mins a day
2. Put make-up on 5 days out of the week
3. comb my hair everyday
4. Call a friend 3 times a week
5. Make to-do lists before bed every night
6. Do a work out video 3 times a week
7. Log onto SparkPeople daily
8. Write a Blog entry 3 times a week
9. Play with and cuddle my dogs 10-15 mins a day
10. Be a Happy Mommy

My Progress the past week

1. I walked 4 times for fitness
2. I put make up on 5 times
3. combed my hair everyday
4. called 3 friends
5. made to-lists 5 times
6. Did zero workout videos
7. Logged onto SP everyday
8. Wrote 3 Blog entries
9. Quality time with my dogs everyday
10. Enjoyed special moments with Greyson everyday

I did way better this week then I did last week. I am proud of my progress and hope that next weeks update will be better. I am just going to keep striving to improve my daily habits. As I would sit down every night and think about my day I see at this point in time there is no way I can do the workout video 3 times a week. I don't want to let go of that goal completely so I am going to shot for doing a workout video once a week. I just feel too overwhelmed thinking about trying to do it 3 times a week that I am not doing it at all. So maybe I can trick myself and think "I can do it, I only have to do it once." I hope it works, you know what I am positive it will work. We will see on my next update or maybe I will be so excited it will be my status one day!

I read somewhere that it takes approximately 21 days to form a new habit so I decided that in 21 days I will revise my goals. I will include things like walking for 15 mins a day and meal planning. I don't know yet but I will work on them. I am also going to take the advice of SP member MICHSTATE and create a reward system. I think that is just the motivation I need, presents to myself, yay! Thanks again MICHSTATE for the idea. I will post a blog entry when I decide on the reward/penalty system.

Well I hope you all are doing great on your weight loss journey. Have a good week and make healthy choices.

    I love your goals! I love how they are about ALL of you and not just about losing weight. I think that's wonderful. And don't give up on the video workout goal. Here's another idea ~~ make it a goal to do just 5 minutes of the video a few times a week. Sometimes telling myself I only need to do something for a few minutes is just what I need to get going. Sometimes I only do the few minutes and other times I do more. Either way, the goal is met and I feel better about myself.

    That is really great what you have achieved :-)

Sometimes we find fun, just in planning things, even if they may seem mundane - it is still keeping our brains active on something positive :-)
