Trying for slow and steady

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

I had fallen into a rut of telling myself I was "too tired" to go to evening Zumba and aerobics classes. But then I forced myself to try it a couple of times and, guess what? That's right: I'm not too tired to do it most of the time. So, I went tonight again, and I'm so proud of myself for that, especially because I'm going to aerobics tomorrow morning too. Woo hoo! Making a steady effort to get more exercise into my daily routine. I really need it. Three days a week is not enough for me. So I got a little jump start over the holidays and now I'm trying for slow and steady!

Congratulations! Sometimes getting out the house can seem like such an insurmountable obstacle. Good for you for breaking through. Right now, I feel like I'm going to need a battering ram to get through the invisible obstacles separating me from regular exercise.

Making it work without a challenge?

Sunday, December 18, 2011

After I finished the year-long challenge, I wanted to take a break and see how I do without the structure. The verdict? Pretty well! I now make a point to work exercise into every day, even without the challenge, and I'm proud of that. I've also been trying to mix things up when I can: In the last two weeks, I've done classes in Zumba, step aerobics, and aerobics, and I enjoyed them all. And I got back to the gym for some strength training too. I'd been letting that lapse and it was great to get back and see that, thanks to the classes, I haven't lost my strength. So, woo hoo! I want 2012 to be healthy, healthy, healthy!

To be honest with myself, though, I have to admit that I've let my eating slide. I need to make a new effort to work those fruits and vegetables on to my plate every day, and I need much more calcium. The 365-day "just 10 minutes" challenge worked so well for me. Maybe I need to do a food challenge. Hmmmm, food for thought.

Wow! That's quite a challenge you've accomplished! Good for you! And you're back in the gym doing different things! I wish I could be that ambitious. I need to work on my fruits and veggies, too. Sounds like I've got myself a couple of challenges thanks to reading your blog.

365 days of exercise! Woo hoo! There were plenty of days where I was reduced to "just 10 minutes," but many more where I did more than I ever would have before I met Spark People. And I've learned that I need the Spark to keep going! Thank you all for your support, which helped me stay strong! The charts, the trophies, the articles, the posts, the Woo Hoos!!!, it all really works! Thank you for a great year!!!

Almost there...

Saturday, November 05, 2011

I'm almost to my goal of 365 days of exercise. I have learned a lot about myself this year. One thing I've learned is to keep going, no matter what. Baby steps really do work!
When I started the challenge, not even my doctors could tell me if exercise was good for the lingering effects of Bell's palsy and I was more or less resigned to the idea that I would have effects from the palsy for the rest of my life. Well, a year later, I'm almost completely free and I'm convinced that exercise (and time, of course) made the difference!
I've also learned that I need to be constantly vigilant about my exercise. I need Spark People to keep me going. Even though I'm almost finished with 365 days of exercise, the last few weeks have been a struggle to keep going and I would have given up and sat on my couch without Spark People and your constant reminders that it is worth it! It's vital to keep moving!

Thanks to my Sparks peeps!

I slept very poorly, then woke up late. And it's snowing...
All perfect excuses to skip Zumba this morning, right? But thanks to Spark people, I threw on my clothes and ran to my Zumba class. And now I feel better!
