A Couple of Compliments...and I gain 3 lbs

Why is it that the moment I get a compliment about how great I look I sabotage myself, fall off the healthy eating wagon, and stop exercising?

I was happily and faithfully going to the gym 4-6 times a week. I carefully prepared meals, counted calories. Using Spark People, I tracked food and activities, read posts daily.

I lost 15 lbs. Feeling great, looking good. And, yet, a couple of well-intended compliments, and I go flying off the wagon.

In the last 10 days, I have regained 3 lbs. I choose today, to stop the sabotage, to be free of the fear. Today, I commit to my health, my son, and my future.

What pushes you off the path to health? Are you ready to commit?

    Feel good about the compliments and don't let the +3 lbs get to you. You caught yourself (it might just be a natural fluctuation, anyway) and are getting back in the game.

I've been letting myself slide on the exercise on my week that I work (I work 5 overnight 10 hr shifts in a row every-other-week) so signed up for the 10-minute per day exercise challenge. I've been working really hard to get at least 10 minutes in a day and today was my 11th day straight of doing it. I'm hoping that doing this for 4 weeks straight will be what I need to get me over my little plateau.

Health means a plant based diet

I have been watching documentaries about food and health over the past several months. Food Matters, What's on Your Plate and Food, Inc. to name just a few.

Last week I watched Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. That was an eye opener. Watching Forks Over Knives. WOW, if hypertension, and obesity aren't enough reasons to become a vegetarian, add cancer to the list. To that end, a new goal is to stop eating meat, fish, and poultry by my next birthday -- January 7. I have played around with vegeterism before but it was about kindness to animals...now, it's about my health.

    There are sooooo many reasons to go vegan/vegetarian including cruelty, environmental, and health. I went vegan back in Feb and it is one of the easiest things I have ever done! I never knew vegan food was so delicious! I have more energy, and I have never looked better! You go girl! Knowledge is power!

    Thanks all for your comments. Vickie, I am heading over to your Vegan team. Sunny, I see you used the Engine 2 diet. That diet was mentioned in the movie Forks Over Knives. I believe one of the authors is the son of one of the doctors in the movie. It's all very interesting.

    emoticon I went vegetarian after seeing a video on the Mercy for Animals website. Just like that, never ate meat, fish or poultry again. It might work for you. I became fully vegan after gaining weight eating eggs, cheese and butter as a vegetarian, in addition to the healthy grains, beans and fruits and veggies. I've lost about 15 pounds since going vegan, and I eat deliciously as a plant-based human being. You can do it too! Let me know if you have questions or need a pep talk.

    I now what you mean about how the documentaries influence one's decision. After reading the China Study then watching Meet Your Meat, I cannot support the supermarket meat industry any more. Watching that one made it easy for me to make the switch

And if you want support, I just began a new vegan team here on SP last week, so far it is only myself and Alicia, but I am trying to remain optomistic that it will grow.

I do a lot of health related threads, games and recipes ( both domestic and ethnic ).
