Well tonight I broiled sirloin steak for dinner and served with baked (okay...microwaved) potatoes and fresh steamed green beans. I don't prepare red meat very often...like maybe 5 times in the almost 20 years I've been married. But my DS could use more protein and he asked if I could make steak and, hey, I was kind of in the mood too.
I cut myself off probably 2 ounces...so it wasn't a huge splurge. And my potato was maybe the size of 2 golf balls...so also very small...but I loaded up on those beans! Probably 3 cups of those...I just love fresh green beans. DH is not a vegetarian, but has never been a big fan of 'dead cow' as he calls beef...so that has dissuaded me effectively from serving it. But it tasted great tonight. I am listening to Peggy...see? More carbs and protein...of a different sort than my usual. Mixing it up a bit. We will see what results this yields. If any. I know there are plenty of proteins out there that aren't red meat...but no one said that variety was a bad thing.
And so I continue to experiment with variety at mealtime. Today at lunch I opted for a regular size Works Bowl at Flame Broiler rather than my usual Mini Works Bowl. Twice the calories...almost 600 vs 340. If Peggy is right I should be able to start burning some fat, assuming I hadn't been fueling myself enough to do that. We will see...
This is a journey, isn't it? I never would have predicted a time where I would be advised to eat more to trigger weight loss...at this point. But that seems to be where I am. Don't expect to become a complete carnivore overnight but I will try to keep mixing it up to see what happens, gotta keep that body guessing, right?
