A Successful Christmas All in All

Sunday, December 26, 2010

Everyone was happy, kids liked their gifts and, yes, even my grouchy old husband liked his gifts (shocker really). Both kids got iPhone 4's but they didn't seem to hit as daughter loves her Indo board (helps her practice surfing outside the ocean). She wants to teach me - I draw the line there. No broken bones for me!

Turkey was nice and moist. Made no dessert and received no major complaints about that. Still no cutout cookies made. Getting to be kind of moot (like the Christmas card picture I haven't taken of the kids in front of the tree yet). Walks outside were perfect - no rain! Went to the beach with the dog and watched the surfers.

Called the relatives and sounds like everyone else enjoyed the day as well. Hoping all of my Spark Buddies had a great holiday!

PS I lent my The Spark book to a friend and talked to another about sharing it with her after the first returns it. So, I spread the Spark on Christmas! The gift of Spark is one of the best on the planet, you have to know!

Merry Christmas!

Saturday, December 25, 2010

Merry Christmas to all...looking forward to a wonderful day. Way too many gifts under the tree for the kids - and both of them have already received new iPhone 4's (boy are they spoiled!). I'm hoping that it is an enjoyable day in every way. The turkey is still in thawing mode, but should be okay in a few hours to be roasted and the weather is beautiful again so and after Christmas dinner should easily be in the cards.

Actually found the completely discontinued and out of stock shoes my husband wanted - and in his size even...boy, did he get lucky!

The kids just read me the Clement Moore Night Before Christmas poem (it's a family tradition that really tugs at my heartstrings as I recall reading it to them when the both fit in my lap (and my lap was pretty small)). They are 13 and 15 now...not so much fitting in laps any more. Time really flies!!

Well, the most important thing to say is "Merry Christmas to All"...

First Christmas Eve Spark People Blog!

Friday, December 24, 2010

Christmas Eve is always a special day - the anticipation of Christmas, the traditional cut-out cookie making, the final preparations for presents, the twinkle in the kids' eyes, hopeful the extra good cheer of all around...can't beat it (except for Christmas Day itself).

My day will begin with yoga (studio closes early so have to squeeze out the last few classes before the 2 day 'draught' (hope I can make it without my fix!). Then I think a stop to shop for a few last-minute things (would my husband understand that he has nothing to unwrap?). Hmmm, no...better come up with something! Although I'm pretty sure he's on the naughty list.

This is will be the first Christmas with my new kitty (birthday gift to me on my birthday in October). She's so sweet...hoping to find out if she likes catnip.

Here's hoping that my willpower will hold out through the baking and icing process as my Aunt Dottie's sugar cookies are fairly irresistible. Say it loud, say it proud - YOU CAN DO IT!

It's gonna be a great holiday! Merry Christmas to all!

2010 Work Year Coming to Close

Thursday, December 23, 2010

One more day of work this year and I'll be calling it quits for 2010. It sure was the year from hell! I started out in pain and misery in the new year 2010 after a car accident late in 2009. It is really only in the last few weeks (honestly) that I have come anywhere near feeling 'normal' since the accident.

2010 was really The Year That Wasn't for me. While I showed up to work, I wasn't really present. While I made dinner for the family, I retreated to my bed rather than enjoying it as I was so exhausted and achy. I really paid very little attention to the kids at all for most of the year. It was pathetic. The situation that is.

I'm so glad to have found SP and the motivation to start exercising and getting my strength back. The weight I gained from inactivity in 2010 is coming off - there's no doubt about that. One of the worst, if not the worst things about the accident was that the weight gain was so rapid and not so easy to reverse. I had almost given up. But no longer.

2011 is going to be great for all of us. There is no sense looking back - only forward! My last day worked will happily put a close to a loser year for me. The year was not a good one and I'm ever so thankful that it is over. I will start 2011 with a completely refreshed approach to my work and life combined. A Clean Break. A Fresh Start!

Alec and Peanut Brittle

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

I have a son who is 15. He is trying to be a kind son, although being 15 makes this a struggle I'm sure. He is becoming more independent all the time but now that school is out I notice he has been playing Christmas carols on the piano (I know he is doing this only to make me happy - and I love it!). He hasn't taken lessons for years but clearly remains skilled and that puts a smile on my face.

In addition his chemistry teacher had the class make peanut brittle on one of the last classes before break as a lab, I think and he had fun doing it so he just whipped up another batch for us to have at home.

I must admit to trying a bit - peanuts are high in protein, right? Pretty tasty treat!
