Pomegranate White Tea

Friday, May 13, 2011

I have another hot find to share...don't you just love my imposing my dietary tips on you all?? I'm hoping so! Well, as you know, I went home with a huge recyclable Trader Joe's bag full of pre-selected groceries after the Casino Night with my son last Saturday. Many of the items went back (like the fried onion snacks which looked nutritionally very dubious) but some items were quite appealing to me on first blush. And one proved a real winner - the Trader Joe's Pomegranate White Tea (with hibiscus flower). It has a wonderful fragrance from the hibiscus and apparently the hibiscus also has plenty of healthful benefit including Vitamin C and weight loss aid. The pomegranate is subtle and the white tea is lovely as well as super low caffeine. Overall, I love sipping on this at work in the mornings and will continue to buy it.

So, thanks Trader Joe's for turning me on to this fabulous find! And for others of you with Trader Joe's near by - why not give it a try? I bet you'll enjoy it!!

Zumba with Toning Sticks

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Has anyone out there tried a Zumba class with toning sticks? They are muy bueno! Lots of fun...a little like hot yoga sculpt in a Zumba kind of a way. The toning sticks are about 8-9" long and have balls at the ends that are filled with some kind of beads or otherwise soothing sounding material that creates a great vibe when shaken to the beat of the Zumba music. They look a lot like hand weights because that is their idea - they add to the cardio side of the workout as well as a bit of strength training to tone the arms when they are used in conjunction with the regular Zumba moves. My instructor seemed to just add them to songs we were already doing without the toning sticks. Not sure if this was the official routine, or she created it on her own. She is one of the key people in the new Zumba Exhilaration DVD set -- kind of cool, huh? She is really awesome - Alicia is her name.

Anyway, I like the sounds created and the toning aspects. Heaven knows I can use another toning class (see yesterday's blog on Brazilian Booty). No wonder my muscle percentage just keeps going up as the fat percentage is going down, down, down. Love those Zumba toning sticks...and, PS, apparently they are included if you buy the DVD set. Too bad I have no time to use DVDs since I'm in the gym when I'm not at work or sleeping - lol!!

Brazilian Booty Badly Kicked My Non-Brazilian Butt!

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Well...it appears that my 630PM Monday night class has now permanently (make that 'as permanent as anything is at this gym') become Brazilian Booty. A pretty wonderful workout, I must say, targeting the, well, booty. The Brazilian instructor is a competitive body person - I wouldn't say body-builder as she isn't scary muscular but she sure is toned beyond belief and slender. A body to aspire to without a doubt! Somehow her perfect booty does seem unachievable, though, I dare say. Some of it is definitely genetics. But, the workout is a non-stop weights and squats, lunges, 'froggies', crunches, bicep/tricep curls, etc etc...she makes Jillian Michaels look like a pussy cat. However, I do really enjoy the class. And I put my all into it. Apparently she'll be teaching it 3 days a week...so I may become a science experiment if I attend all of the classes. Why not give it a try?

Of course, my hot yoga sculpt immediately following the ol' booty buster was a bit of a bust as it were as I could barely lift the 3 pound hand weights required there after using the 5 pound each hand weights in the booty class for an hour. Not to mention my butt was aching. Child's pose was calling my name, repeatedly...yet I'm loving the challenge! Bring on the Brazilian Booty!! Woo Hoo!

Crazy, but true!

Talbot's Visit and Goldilocks

Monday, May 09, 2011

We had lunch today at the Cheesecake Factory - yes, I know their portions are huge; so - lol - I split a luau salad (lunch portion) with my daughter and still had some leftover for dinner! That place has crazy huge portions! Talk about portion distortion! OMG!!

Well, anyway, I stopped at Talbots while we waited to be seated and asked for help with pants. I've always had a problem with finding pants fitted enough so that the waistline doesn't look like it needs to be taken in too many inches (in order to acommodate my butt - I am a bit 'shapely')

So...anyway, I went in wearing a pair of 8 pants that were definitely too loose around the waist. The lady helping me insisted that I should be wearing a size 4 or 6. I really am not used to this! So she brought me 6s first - and still the waist was too big. Then I tried 4s. They seemed a bit snug in the thighs to me, but okay in the waist.

Feeling a bit like Goldilocks!! Didn't buy anything - but I guess I just need to keep shopping until I find a cut that can work. Never thought I'd be a 4 in pants -- that's for sure! Wow!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining!
