As a part of Camp WannabeFit's Kickoff to Summer Party we are doing a Scavenger Hunt. I will be adding pictures as I find them.

Camp Wannabefit - a new Spark Team, check it out!

Hi friends. I want to let you know about a project a few of us have been working on for a couple months. We have selfishly combined what we think are the best parts of a few challenges we've participated in here on Spark. (So, thank you to all those great teams for the ideas.) And have built a challenge that is exactly what we want to be doing. LOL

We have found that it is a concept that others love too. The team is about 2/3 full without going public. But we are still looking for some friends (both those we know and new ones) to join us. I'm just going to post the "Welcome" post here. It does a good job of describing the challenge. If it sounds like something you'd like to be part of, Sparkmail me and I'll send you an invitation.

" We are a group of Sparkers that decided we want to move beyond weekly weigh ins and weekly challenges built by someone else. We know that pounds are not the only way to measure success. We need the flexibility of taking Tuesday off from exercise some weeks and don’t want to feel guilty about it. We know what works for us, what our time constraints are and what we enjoy doing.

We enjoy hanging out with an active team; we need the support and the fun. We are also just a bit competitive and appreciate the fact that having a team depending on us can push us to work just a little bit harder.

With those things in mind, we put together this team. Camp Wannabefit consists of several challenges in the form of camp activities. There are a variety of exercise activities for you to choose from that range from beginner to seasoned athlete in difficulty. You have several nutrition options as well. Then we threw in some of what we call Life Style activities so that you can work on everything from organizational skills, to getting that stack of books read, to doing some writing and self-reflection.

You will have the ability to build your own challenge each week or build your perfect week once and then just get it done. The activities are lead by folks with experience in their subjects. So, if, for instance you want to become a runner – we have a great camp counselor all lined up for you with a plan for meeting your running goals. Want to get your Ooommm on - we have yoga covered too. Cycling, Strength Training . . . yep, we have them.

Traveling this week? Cut back on your camp commitments . Need to get ready for an event? Hit it hard. Have a race this week - you won’t lose points for needing to load up on those carbs. In maintenance? Take a simple Healthy Habits challenge and then join the book club or work on some other life challenge.

Each activity has a point value – that’s where the challenge comes in. You will be part of a team that is counting on you to rack up those points each week. Bragging rights are a wonderful thing!!

Space is limited, but we are an ongoing challenge, so as folks move on to other things, we will fill their space with folks from our wait list.

The challenge will officially begin on Sunday, April 13th, but we will invite you to camp ahead of that date so that you can get settled in. Hope to see you there."

Stopping Holiday Gain

For this weekend's challenge we are to post a blog on how we will be stopping the dreaded Holiday Gain this year.

I plan on sticking to Dolvett's 3-1-2-1 Diet Plan, eating clean for 3 days, 1 cheat day (sticking to the high end of my calorie range and not overdoing it), 2 days of eating clean and 1 more cheat day. I also plan on incorporating his 48-minute exercise routine to keep torching those calories.

If I run into trouble I will text my friends for support and to stay accountable. I made it through last Christmas without a gain and I know I can do it again!

How I've weathered the ups and downs

I was not an overweight kid until I reached my early teens. I grew up on tv dinners and snack food. My Mom worked two jobs and was not a big cook so she would fill the pantry with cookies and snacks. The weight piled on over the years though I never felt fat or uncomfortable. The year before I got my drivers license I started walking everywhere and the weight came off. I stayed slim and discovered I enjoyed exercise though my food habits didn't get much better.

I never had any real problems with my weight until I was in my late 30's and knew it was time to get serious about my food. I tried many diets over the years and my weight went up and down. After reaching an all time high I joined Jenny Craig and that was my ticket to success. I've kept mostly within 5 lbs of the weight I loss 5 years ago but it's always a battle to stay there.

This is a life long journey for me that I don't have any choice in, I will not let my body suffer with the extra weight and I will continue to eat clean and exercise every day, every week, there are no "breaks" in health.

    I love your attitude. This has been a life-long problem for me too and I know I have to continue to work on it. When I injured my knee, I couldn't run and the weight started piling on again. Although my knee isn't much better, I have been walking a lot and using the stationary bike. (both hurt, but I can stand it) So, I am making some progress and starting to write down everything I eat again. I can't do a lot of exercise so I don't know if I will really be able to do a BLC round but I am still hanging in there.
