Another Year

The first day of the first month of 2011. I have been blessed with starting another year. I have so much to be thankful for -- family, friends, jobs, ministry opportunities, etc. I am excited about the possibilities that this year holds. My kids are growing so quickly and developing their own interests and abilities. It will be fun to see that continue in the coming months. My husband and I are both still employed and blessed with many wonderful coworkers. We are planning to pay off our house by the beginning of April -- that will free up a lot of money to go after our next round of priorities!

I have struggled during November and December with my healthy living journey. Seemed like when the weather got colder, I didn't make the adjustment very well to working out indoors. And I eat better and more consciously when I am working out. So today I sat down and set some healthy living goals and came up with a list of non-food rewards. I also got in a fantastic workout on the treadmill and followed that up with some strength training. My workout made me feel terrific and want to be much more aware of my eating. It has been a great day and I feel so much better.

I know what I need to do to feel better and get the weight from the last two months off. It is up to me to find the motivation and discipline to do what I need to do each day. So here is to making wise choices and reaching those goals in the coming months. I know I share this journey with so many others. May we all encourage each other along the way!

From August until the end of October I was doing so well with getting in my workouts. I had really been enjoying running and walking a trail. Now the weather has gotten colder and windier, which I do not enjoy. So as I am evaluating things tonight, I am realizing that I just simply have not been exercising which leads to me not feeling as well, my clothes not fitting as well and a general mental haze.

Frustrating as it is, I know what I need to do. I need to figure out how, when and where I am going to start fitting working out back into the equation and then I need to get started. I would really like to get up and do treadmill workouts early in the morning so that I get it done right away each day. The obstacle is that I am not a morning person. But the reward would be having free afternoons to get other things done.

So I am setting a goal to get up early and get it done. Who knows -- maybe after a few weeks I can feel more like a morning person! What I do know is that I want to feel better and this is what it will take.

    Good luck! I'm a morning person, but don't workout in the morning (except for yoga) just doesn't work in my schedule...but this is a tricky time of year for me too, it's getting dark earlier, the weather is less predictable. And going to the gym is fine, but crowded!

Keep at it, and you will find something that works, it really does make you feel good doesn't it?

    I'm not a morning person either. Back before i became a lazy bum and quict using my treadmill, i used to walk last thing at the end of a day. I'd get a trashy romance novel, prop it up on the bookstand of my treadmill, and walk through a couple of chapters. Then, take a hot shower, and crawl into bed.

Having a book to read, one that didnt require any thought on my part, made the time go faster, and took my mind off teh events of the day. The hot shower was bliss. I ended up sleeping better at night as well, because i worked off the stress of the day before i went to bed, so i wasnt laying there worrying about it, or too stressed out to sleep.

It's a habit i'm trying to get back into. Would a schedule like that work for you too? Late at night, the house is quiet, the kids are in bed, and there's no one to care if you use all the hot water.

I need to get back into a consistent workout pattern! Today I did three separate workouts and that felt really good. I think I was so motivated because I know I have not been as consistent as I need to be. Trying some new activities will probably help too and that is so much easier now that the weather is so much nicer!

    Good luck with consistency. I think it's a tough thing to tackle too. Keep up with your workouts. I believe that we cannot achieve success without physical activity in our lives. Good luck and I'll be cheering you on. Did you exercise today?

Started New Workout Routine

I am done working for the summer so I decided to shock my body and start a totally new workout routine this past week. I can definitely tell I am working new muscles. Fortunately, I am in good enough shape that the soreness is not too bad. This workout combines leg and arm work in the same moves and I love the challenge of that. Hoping this will give my body a boost and I can hit my goal weight real soon! Working out is so much more fun than it used to be!

Loving Spring!

It is so wonderful to see the grass turning green, the trees budding and the flowers starting to grow. The warmer days are making it so much easier to get a workout in. I love being outside with the kids, going for walks and bike rides. Spring just makes me feel so much better. This year I have the strength, endurance and stamina to just jump right in and enjoy the spring weather! I am so thankful for being at a healthier weight and having energy again!
