2011 Goals

Well, I started this year with a list of goals I thought I would stick to. They were:

1. Follow correct portion size guidelines.
2. Get back into my regular exercise routine.
3. Help the cat to lose 3 lbs so she is less at risk for diabetes & other health issues.
4. Practice being more positive.
5. Fix my garbage disposal!!!
6. Fix up the gardens all around my yard.
7. Stay on top of the weeding in the vegetable garden....hahahahahahaha!

I have made positive changes but I haven't stuck to my list. (Do I ever? No.) Here's what I've done instead, which may even be better because I'm DOING them instead of just planning to:

1. Eat 6-8 servings of fruits & veggies daily.
2. Try new healthy foods.
3. Cook more healthy foods at home, saves money & I know exactly what goes into the foods so I can track it more accurately.
4. The cat is getting slimmer & is enjoying more active play.
5. The garbage disposal may stay broken. I've started a compost heap instead.
6. It's still way too early to work on the gardens but I have beautiful fragrant herbs flourishing in my kitchen window.
7. I know I won't be able to keep the weeds under control. So I won't be angry with myself if I don't. I will spend lots of time enjoying working in the gardens, & I will enjoy it all the more if I don't have unrealistic expectations. I'm also planning to grow mostly vegetables & herbs that I have had success with previously, & add just a couple new ones.
8. I have paid off two large bills.
9. I have seen rewards for my efforts at work.
10. I am working at being more positive. Part of that program is recognizing my own accomplishments & realizing that I am progressing & improving, even if I've strayed from my original list.

The only perk to being sick

I haven't been counting my calories while I've been sick this last week. I know my metabolism is running higher than normal because I've been running a fever, & since I've been working 2/3 of the time I've been sick, I feel like I really need the extra nutrition right now. That's the only perk to being sick I can see. Plus my antibiotic & prednisone are definitely take-with-a-meal meds or they wreak havoc on my stomach. So, no eating limits other than whatever I eat has to be nutritious, no empty calories. I am still tracking for nutrition content, though.

    Looks delish! I love fruit for breakfast, too, and always add fresh fruit (berries) to my sprouted whole grain cereal. I'm not hungry for about 4 hours after that!

I live in a very remote rural area that has a short growing season, so fresh produce during the seven months of winter is treasured. Since last summer, a group of farmers from warmer areas has been shipping fresh produce into this area, for about half the price I pay for it in the sole local grocery store. The program was on hiatus the last 4 weeks, due to the holidays & bad road conditions. I was delighted to see it start up again today.

Today's baskets included a pineapple, 3 asian pears, 9 kiwis, a few apples, 9 oranges, a nice bag of pears, a basket of cherry tomatoes, a head of leaf lettuce, a bunch of spinach, a generous bundle of asparagus, & 3 butternut squash. I am so excited it's silly!

  


Facebook shut me out of my account!

I am annoyed at how restrictive Facebook is getting. I logged in late last night & got a message saying "a link has been sent to your email account. Please click it to confirm your email address." But, I didn't receive the email. So I went back to the account confirmation message & clicked the link provided to resend the email. Nothing happened, so I clicked it twice. A warning screen was then displayed which said, "you are engaging in an activity which may be annoying to other users. If you do not significantly slow your rate of use, your account may be disabled." I was finally able to log back in this morning.

I understand that Facebook has had to set a lot of restrictions because of spamming. But now I've got one warning against me. If you get too many, Facebook will disable your account. I'm not looking for anyone to fix my problems, I'm just raising awareness...be careful clicking on links in Fb messages too often, you might annoy people & get shut out of your account! LOL! emoticon
