Happy New Year & update!

Monday, December 31, 2012

I am 8 weeks into my pregnancy now! We have told all of the family & just announced it to the world today!

I have done really well over the past couple of weeks. I haven't gained an ounce yet & all of my clothes still fit very well. I haven't felt bloated much (only occasionally at bedtime) and I attribute that to healthy eating & listening to my body.

NUTRITION: I have eaten so well! At the holiday gatherings I have eaten small portions of the special dishes & then really filled up on fresh fruit & veggies. I have limited sweets & drank LOTS and LOTS of water.

EXERCISE: I haven't been able to get to the gym in over a week due to Christmas & then a snow storm that held us captive and shut down the city for 3 days. Also, my husband's grandfather passed away this weekend so we have been VERY busy with family. I have kept active & incorporated stretching into my routine, but my plan is to get back to the regular gym routine next week. I feel so good after exercise!

Morning sickness has been very minimal. Just slight nausea if I go more than 2 hours without eating during the day, but easily cured by eating a piece of fruit or some protein. I have been somewhat tired, but I wouldn't say it's been much more than usual. "Nugget" (as we are currently calling him/her) is the size of a raspberry or a kidney bean this week. A little over a half inch. My uterus on the other hand is much larger. I can definitely feel it when I press in my pelvic area.

Happy New Year Sparkers! emoticon emoticon

Day #17: Work, work, work.

Friday, December 14, 2012

I have worked a lot this week. We are short staffed & they are paying good money for overtime, so I am working extra this weekend, too.

Since I have been working so much & my job is very active (I hardly get to sit), I have done minimal cardio this week. I need to get a pedometer so that I can track all of that movement and see how much it really is. Wednesday we took a 30 min walk and looked at the neighborhood Christmas lights. We have lots of hills, so it was a good workout!

As far as ST, I worked arms & abs for 15 min on Wednesday, then I worked arms & legs for 15 min today.

I have done REALLY well nutritionally this week; however, I am not very hungry and so I am hoping that I am getting in enough calories to support my pregnancy. I am eating a very nutrient dense diet & taking coconut oil, fermented cod liver oil, raw prenatal vitamins, and folate, so surely that adds up to the right amounts!

Time for bed so I can get up and go to work again! Have a great weekend, Sparkers! emoticon

Day #13: Well, THAT'S a game changer...

Monday, December 10, 2012

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

TOM is late. I was sure I had a cyst again like I had earlier this year when I had no period for 5 months, but my SIL convinced me to take a test anyway. Apparently not a cyst!

I spent yesterday in shock. I mean, we weren't trying, but we weren't not trying either... I just wasn't mentally prepared!

We told our parents yesterday, but we are waiting to tell the rest of the family & friends right now since I am only 5 weeks or so. Not sure when we will share the big news yet. Hubby is more excited than I am right now. I am happy, but very much in shock! I just kept staring at that little stick like it had grown horns!

I guess this is a game changer for my Spark plans!

- How did your fitness routine change when you found out you were pregnant? Did you continue HIIT & listen to your body or did you dump HIIT all together for the time? What about ST?

I have read that it is ok (and even encouraged) to continue exercise through pregnancy & listen to my body to tell me if I am overdoing it, but I want to be cautious not to push too hard since I only started consistent exercise 2 weeks ago (when I was apparently barely pregnant & didn't know it). I want to do whatever is best for both of us.

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE feedback! I feel like I just got thrown in the deep end!

I just saw this blog! Congratulations, what a great gift!
Listen to your body, drink lots of water, move when you can, rest all you want. I had all sorts of intentions during my last pregnancy, but I hardly followed through. Which I certainly regret . Walking is the best, strength train if you can, don't attempt anything extreme.
Enjoy this time! Very happy for you.

Wow! Congratulations!!! Just saw your latest blog and came to this one because I had totally missed this!

Super happy for you girl! It is an existing time of year to have this kind of news. I would just maintain your current workouts depending on energy levels for now. I kept very active during my pregnancies. Will have to spark mail you later. Have a little guy with a fever and sore throat in my arms at the moment. Take care ;-)

WOW!! CONGRATS! I'm not a mama, so I can't help in that area.. but I've seen plenty of fit and (VERY) pregnant ladies walking on the treadmill at the gym and whatnot.. there are so many fit mamas on sparkpeople, you've got a wealth of support and information here! I'm sure with the healthy habits you've developed this far, you'll be able to stay in tip top shape, for you and baby!

Sorry, I can't help you on the fitness questions as I have no experience but I would think you could just listen to your body. I would ask your doctor about it.

Day #11: ROCKED the gym today!

Saturday, December 08, 2012

After no gym yesterday & just a few measly squats and calf raises (refer to yesterday's blog), I ROCKED the gym today! Tomorrow is my rest day, so I thought, why not really push myself today and earn that rest day? That's just what I did!

- 5 min treadmill warm up
- 20 min HIIT
- 5 min treadmill cool down
- 30 minutes ST: arms, shoulders, abs, back, legs

NUTRITION: breakfast was eggs scrambled in coconut oil w/ mushrooms & peppers, and also green tea w/ coconut oil. I will eat a healthy lunch & keep my body satisfied so that I can avoid eating too much this afternoon/night at the family Christmas party.

I am feeling to great about today! It's only been two weeks so I am trying to remind myself that I can't expect to see much change just yet, but Rome wasn't built in a day! I have made it through two weeks of consistency & the first two weeks are always the hardest!
I can FEEL the difference in my endurance and that is GREAT!!!!

Day #10: Does crazy housework count for exercise?

Friday, December 07, 2012

Today was sooooo busy! I went to my MIL's house & helped her get ready for the annual extended family Christmas get together she is hosting tomorrow. From noon until seven we worked non stop with no sitting breaks. I baked (did not taste though, yay for me!), decorated, cleaned, organized, and hauled stuff from one place to another all day long. I did a little leg ST (lunges & calf raises) while we worked. Does running around all day without sitting count for exercise? Well, it will have to for today!

NUTRITION: HAHAHAHAHAHA! Good news is I stayed within my calorie range, but what did I eat today? Cookie dough for breakfast (homemade & organic... better, right?), sugar snap peas, apple & coconut oil for lunch, and pizza hut supreme pizza for dinner. I was proud of myself for only eating 2.5 pieces, giving my crust to my husband, eating very slowly & enjoying every last bite!

I'm so thankful it's the weekend! Tomorrow is the family get together so I am mentally preparing myself now and strategizing (word?) to avoid binging.

Have a great weekend!!! emoticon

absolutely - I have been packing up a house and cleaning. think of it as weights, cardio and general exercise. Feel so tired at night (that muscle tiredness from exercise) so definitely think it burned calories - and am often too busy to think about snacking all day.

I added my own "regular down on your knees housework" to the tracker with a low calorie guess just to perk me up. I know I'm too slow to burn many calories, but the minutes help!

Yes, I often get 120 minutes of Sparkpoint Exercise for doing HEAVY CLEANING. It certainly counts as exercise.
