An overcast day, perfect for walking off our Xmas excesses. Good to spend time with family for Christmas and to share a lovely meal together. A few (27) earthquakes yesterday, some quite prolonged, but nothing significant. Christchurch is full of flowers right now and I am really enjoying the beautiful colours and scents. Can't help but envying the folk with their lovely flat gardens in full sun...
Have a good Boxing Day, Sparkies!

We've had a very restful time so far with warm weather, a calm sailing across Cook Strait and a very leisurely drive to Richmond to stay with my sister at her B&B. What a ravishing garden she has, full of roses and hostas in bloom at the moment. No fotos but here is a link:
We had a couple of swims with the chlldren at the indoor pool, big fun for all concerned. First Christmas was very pleasant and relaxed, though the trifle got the better of me.
Travelled yesterday along the lovely Lewis Pass, through the high flat terraces of Murchison, baking in the sun, into the tall shingle peaks of the high country. We stopped at Maruia Springs for a thermal pool: http://maruiasprings.co.nz/pools.php
Emerged later relaxed and redolent with the smell of sulphur (just as well we BOTH had a spa), then on along the braided rivers and blond plains of Canterbury to Christchurch.
What a beautiful country the Mainland is, a pleasure to drive.
Greeted immediately by a little Christchurch earthquake, followed by more throughout the night. But we are taking it all calmly. So far. Here's the action, so far 30 quakes in the last 24 hours: http://www.canterburyquakelive.co.nz/
Sunny and a gentle breeze her. Must off to make trifle number 2.

A lot to do today, get a check on the car before our big driving holiday, organize supplies for the animals, tidy the house for the pet carer (LOL), PACK... I'm going to fit in a swim and a pedicure in there somewhere, too. I enjoy this kind of preparation, it's exciting! Our trip will begin with a sail on a car ferry, it is very beautiful. Then a drive through our lovely hills and valleys, and family at the end of that trip.
(Later)what a great day, running errands all day, which was a bit of a shame as I couldnt take advantage of the sunshine. It has been a beautiful day here, and I note I am still glowing from the sun I caught yesterday, so probably just as well I wasn't outside a bit more. Got everything done, but the best thing of all was my water workout which was really hardout. I worked determinedly for the whole time and felt quite tired when I stopped. Figured out some new things to do, like crunches, and ran on the spot for 20 mins non stop, which I sure could never do on land. I feel really strong and happy and pleased with myself. I love water workouts and

The cat food will be
On the bench
The cats will be
On the couch
Their people will be
The person will come
When she can.
The cats will be glad
To see her
One cat will run away, but long
To be stroked.
The other will stay to be stroked.
The gifts will be
In a pile.
The children will be
Somebody will cry and Somebody else
will be tired.
The house will be
as it was.
The people will be glad
to be home.
The cats will be
On the couch.
They will be pleased, but
They won't let on.
