Glad to have lost some weight

Sunday, July 03, 2011

Even though exercise is my focus until I am exercising steadily, I have been filling in my food tracker and I am glad to have lost two kilos in the last month. Not a stunning show, but good enough for me at the moment. Maybe it's getting to be time to set a modest little weight loss goal...

Water in winter

Saturday, June 25, 2011

Not so good on the exercise myself this week, but back to the pool this weekend. I don't find it so easy to swim in winter; who knows why because it isn't as if I am getting into the water outside! Ah but it's such a great feeling when you are in the water. Today is wildly wet and windy, and I have found it hard to keep up with my water intake on days such as this. Then I remembered, water doesn't have to be cold from the tap. I can drink HOT water, it goes down so much more easily.
As for the exercise, we have had builders working in the house, and there was no little space for me to stretch out. All good now though, except for a houseguest for the next week, who I don't want to see me in my exercise glory. OMG, I just read that, now I see the power of a blog to keep you honest. Excuses excuses, not the same as reasons. I promise to find - I mean make-exercise space this week emoticon

You must be in the Southern Hemisphere! Swimming has been a major aid in my program. Summer of 2009 I swam and weight fell off and my back was great. Summer of 2010 I didn't swim and weight and back both were not pleasing. This summer I am swimming because back is a real problem and the swimming is a major improvement. As my weight has moved down people have come up and stated amazement at my loss, adds 30 minutes at least at WalMart, so look forward to people ogling you because of the changes SP creates for us.

Making the most of insomnia

Wednesday, June 08, 2011

I should be asleep but went to bed early last night and am suffering the consequences this morning. So thrilled to find an article on water exercise as I love the pool and aqua jog regularly but was looking for exercises I can do myself to vary the routine. Already feeling better in myself for picking up my exercise program. I realize I have been handicapping myself by trying too hard to exercise with a buddy. My buddies tend to regularly let me down and I let that demotivate me. But all I need to do is just get on with it and enjoy the pool time. Oh, I got a real boost yesterday getting in the water, which I hate. ( it's so wet!) So I was looking horrified as I went down the ladder, to the amusement of a pair of approaching aqua joggers who called out encouraging words and applauded when I was immersed! emoticon

Check out the "Groovy Move Ideas" discussion thread on the Water Aerobics Team for lots of ideas about stuff to do in the pool in addition to jogging. emoticon

Inspirational article

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

I just read an article I really liked about changing bad habits. I agree with its premise that our bad habits aren't some failure of character, they are built up over time and can be changed over time. They are faulty coping mechanisms (because they are temporary fixes that cause their own problems). And they get their power through mindless repetition. They can be altered by persistent attention and awareness in the moment. To which end I am blogging this so I can look at it later:
What am I thinking RIGHT NOW?
What am I feeling RIGHT NOW?
Why is doing this so important to me RIGHT NOW?
What are the consequences NOW?
What are the consequences LATER?
Here is the link and I have saved the article to my favorites.

I just heard that my blood sugar results are good, so no need for further action beyond embarking wholeheartedly on a healthier lifestyle - with the assistance of Sparkpeople. Tired today after a hardcore session in the pool yesterday. I wonder does anyone else find exercising in a warm pool takes it out of them more than an ordinary pool?
Anyway, it's good to rest up after hard work, I love that virtuous tired feeling!
