    Cute! As a counterpoint, how does my dog often get his way? He licks and kisses me until I lose all my defenses! ;)

Why wouldn’t the pig tell the police about the farmer’s criminal activities?

He didn’t want to be identified as a squealer.

    Ahh, so funny, that widdl' squealer tattleteller probably also didn't want the farmer to get rid of the pig pen either! ;)

PROPER PRONUNCIATION
Status: “stay-tus.”

Transient: It has two syllables, not three, so it’s “tran-shent,” not “tran-zee-ent.”

Spherical: “sferr-i-kal,” not “sfeer-i-kal.”

Decrease: If you’re using it as a noun, it’s de -crease. If you’re using it as a verb, it’s de- crease.

Err: Rhymes with “hair?” No, it rhymes with “her.”

Regime: The first syllable is sounded as “ray.”

Quasi: Today it’s often pronounced “kwah-zee,” but it’s more correct to say “kway-zai.”

    Ok, you got me on one of them. I'm a bit of a language nut. The word that I had to go and look up to see if you were correct was "transient." I was once again schooled when I researched further and found that I was wrong on another level. All my life I have sung the hymn "My Faith Looks Up to Thee" in which the final stanza begins with "When ends life's tran-sient dream." We have always sung this as "tran-zee-ent" even though the musical notation would indicate a two syllable articulation. When singing the hymn we typically elide the two final (inappropriate) syllables on the one note. All these years it should have been sung with the pronunciation you have indicated. Interesting.

Young from the inside out

Monday, July 25, 2011

If the opposite of aging is staying young, the opposite of stress is having fun. We know stress is bad news. It causes every cell of our body to act older, ultimately making us feel worse. Fun, on the other hand, relieves stress, pumps us full of childlike energy and makes us feel great. The question to ask yourself is, How can I have more fun?

A few of my ways: Reading a great book, going to a summer concert outdoors, taking a walk, going to garage sales with a friend or two. For you, maybe it's going to a party or an inspiring art exhibit.

I firmly believe that figuring out what makes life feel fun to you - and then doing it! - is key to being young at every age.

  I totally agree. Every time I see our little Casita trailer pull up in front of the house...I feel like a little kid going on an adventure. When my DH and I go on our long walks...it's like a fun "date" to me. Heck...fun can even be getting all the clothes folded and put away...it's all in the attitude. And yes...it feels soooo good!

    Thanks, Judy, I am encouraged by your success and your positive disposition. Keep up the good work. I lost 40 pounds pretty effortlessly several years ago and a big part of it was water consumption. I have been frustrated because I am eating better than ever (though not perfect) and I have been consistently running and now it is hard to shed the weight.

    I agree, having fun is important. For some it must be worked on. The other thing I've learned is how one responds to stress.
Stress will only end for us when we are gone. Take 2 people on a rollercoaster ride. One is having the time of his life, and the other is scared to death. Same stimuli, different responses. One is experiencing endorphins, the other cortisol. We can change our repsonse when we realise that we can. Find the humor in the situation and you stop taking life to seriously. :) thanks for sharing.

A Freeing Idea

Sunday, July 24, 2011

What would it feel like to let go of every negative thought about your body? Try it:

Worship your legs for taking you on adventures;

Adore your abs for allowing you to lean into life;

Love your smile for revealing the joy in your heart.

Live as if your body were perfect, not only because you'll be more open to the world, but because in every way that truly matters, it is.

  Great idea...I do "appreciate" what my body can do when I go on those long walks each week with my DH. emoticon Also...when you like your body...you tend to take better care of it. emoticon mary
