Generation Gap

Monday, April 11, 2011

In the early 1990s MTV aired a sketch comedy show called The State. In 1994 network executives told the show to nix a sketch that discussed Bob Dylan because they felt MTV’s teenage audience “didn’t know who Bob Dylan was,” and to replace all references to Dylan with a current star, like Kurt Cobain of the band Nirvana. The State ran the Dylan sketch anyway. Flash forward to 2007, when MTV had another sketch comedy show called Human Giant. Network executives gave the show’s writers a lot of creative freedom, but nixed their plans for a sketch about Kurt Cobain . . . because MTV’s teenage audience “wouldn’t know who that was.”

Reckon my teenage daughter wouldn't know Kurt Cobain but my 20 & 21 year old boys would!

This is so true. I'm 53 and have a 17 yo daughter and a 15 yo son. They have NO idea what a turntable is, an 8 track tape or GOD forbid a reel to reel, had no idea what a rotary dial telephone was or 8mm movie camera.
Yeah, someimes I feel old. Most times I just feel lucky.
The funny part is I REALLY enjoy "hanging" with the kids and thier friends and thier friends seem to like my company. emoticon

Walk to Remember

Walking is good for your brain, a new University of Pittsburgh study shows. The more you walk, the more blood your brain gets, preventing the natural shrinkage-and much of the memory loss-that comes with age.

My walk in the mornings is MY time, sometimes I share it with my dog.
It's my time to DO something for my self physically, mentally and spiritually.
Even when it's raining I think of it being refreshing, if it's windy then I think of it as blowing away my cares and frustration, if it's cold, I think of it burning more calories to move AND keep warm.
Every season, every day, It's my time. emoticon

I've cut right back on the amount of walking I do and feel pretty lousy as a result. Better dust off my trainers I guess! emoticon

If walking can help reduce memory loss, then I have to get a whole lot more walking in!!!
Wishing you a wonderful, joy filled day!

I have ALWAYS loved Dalmations. I had one and named her Tops at my best friends suggestion. His first suggestion was Spot. No way in H311. So I took his second suggestion and sent in my registration papers. One day at lunch I told him Tops' papers had come in and I had taken his suggestion..... He THEN informed me that I had ACTUALLY taken both of his suggestions....You see, he told me with a huge grin...Tops is Spot spelled backwards.
Wow. I usually don't get taken like that..... emoticon
