I know I am supposed to be very happy that I have a job...and believe me, I am. However, the office manager, Carol and I are the only office staff...so with Carol so ill and out of the office almost 2 weeks already - this is tough stuff.

I work for a roofing company and I really do love the job & the people I work with. But, I haven't learned how to do everything yet and the phones are simply unbelievably busy and I am trying to answer all the calls plus handle the mail & the checks and the roofing estimates that have to be proofread and sent out plus writing up the workorders so the guys can go out & do the work plus............well, you get the picture.

Anyhow, I just wanted to vent some of my stress here. Thanks for listening if you got this far!

Oh, Judy...it sounds like a cauldron at work - that or a pressure cooker, I'm not sure which! I really feel for you! I hope Carol is back to help you very soon. There's a flip side to the gratitude many feel right now that they've got a job: Businesses, if they're not cutting back staff, are usually not adding to their personnel right now. So those who are employed are so often overburdened, as you are. I hope it lets up soon! - Sandi emoticon

Sorry it is so hectic, Judy. With you practically JUST STARTING there sure adds to the stress. It's not like you know everything like the back of your hand. Hope your co-worker comes back soon. I sure hope they appreciate all you are doing. Bet it's nice to walk through your door each evening and just sit down with Cliff and the furr babies. Hang in there. mary

You just vent away and I hope that will help. You are really overwhelmed right now. I hope Carol will be able to come back soon at least part-time.

As busy as you are I'm sure your days go by fast. Have a nice evening the weekend is almost here.

4th of July

Saturday, July 03, 2010

I just want to wish every single one of my Spark People friends the happiest 4th of July. I love this holiday with all it's patriotism and parades and family get-togethers and fireworks. It is one of my all-time favorite days.

I love to watch the local parade - they do it up great every single year. I also love to view the fireworks that my local park district puts on along with a fun concert every year.

Hope everyone has a great, happy, healthy and fun day!

Petting Stingrays

Saturday, June 26, 2010

I don't know if any of you have ever had the pleasure of petting a stingray...but what a neat experience it is! My husband & I went to Brookfield Zoo today. They have a special exhibit going on right now through Labor Day where you can actually stick your hands into the pool and touch the stingrays! It is SO COOL! What fun!!! I was touching so many of them. They were swimming past often. Some of them actually slowed down so I could really get to touch them. They are a little bit slimy feeling, but really very smooth. They have very long thin tails, too! It was great.

We also spent time at the Great Bear Grotto and got to see bison & a bald eagle & polar bears, including one who came right up to the glass viewing window - I might right up there! That was really fun.

We went through the butterfly exhibit which is also only there through Labor Day. The butterflies flit around freely - sometimes even landing on you. None of them landed on us this time around, but we sure did have fun sitting on a bench just watching them. It's amazing how relaxing that can be. We got to see them sucking out the pollen from some of the flowers.

You must live in or near Chicag0 (because of the reference to Brookfield Zoo). Well, we must be almost neighbors-I live in Iowa! Thanks for visiting my spark page-my youngest dtr also has 2 ferrets and just loves them!

Judy, you and Cliff really know how to have a great time! I have never had the pleasure of petting a stingray, but I'm sure I'd be rather awestruck by the experience if I did! We used to have a petting zoo (used to... emoticon...) very close by, and the bison were such marvelous creatures to behold! But I have never seen anything like the butterfly exhibit you described. That must be an unforgettable experience! - Sandi emoticon

Wow, sounds like you had a great time. I really enjoy zoos and aquariums. I petted a string ray years ago at the Mystic Aquarium. It was awesome!

I have never petted a stingray, however I love to go to zoos. My favorite animals are the penquins. The Omaha zoo has a great penquin exhibit I have only been there once, but sat and watched the penquins for a long long time.

It sounds like you had a wonderful day.

Well, now that I have faced the fact that I cannot eat like a crazy person and still expect to keep my weight off - I feel really great about things.

I have learned that as I get older, I really have to start being more sensible every single day. In the past, I could eat whatever I wanted for 2 days in a row (maybe even 3) and still be okay when I would weigh in at TOPS. However, even with all the walking I am doing, I realize that I can't do that anymore.

Instead, I will try to plan for a little (& I do mean little) extra snack on the weekends instead of a full day of extra eating.

That, plus my walking, should keep me on a much more even keel.

Once again, I want to express my gratitude & thanks for all the SparkPeople friends who rallied around me when I really needed help. You guys rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

emoticon emoticon emoticon on being such a quick learner, Judy! Age can wreak havoc with one's metabolism... Don't I know it! In order to lose at the same rate I did 25 years ago, I've got to eat 300 calories less per day. We all love that 'entertaining eating' - it has tremendous appeal, doesn't it? But as Bob Dylan sang, "The times, they are a changin'...♫♫" Have a pleasant rest-of-the-weekend! - Sandi emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon ...certified 'n' certifiable foodie!

as much as we would like to eat anything we want out bodies and the scales tell us different. Our spark friends help to keep us going in the right direction. And I know that I am now a walker and I never even considered getting exercise before joining Spark.

Have a great day. PJ

I agree age has a lot to do with it. I am finding it difficult to lose and in the past (6 years ago) I had no trouble.

We live and learn, Judy. It doesn't take much for me to put whatever I've worked to lose right back on if I over eat. But I'm no where near where you are. And yes...I do think it's age and a different metabolism that goes along with that. glad to see you feeling better. Friends do make such a big difference in this journey. We are all in this together...and there is strength in numbers for sure. Hang tough! emoticon mary

1. The words are composed of two shorter words in a row. (Example: carnation = car + nation.)

2. New words are formed when s is added to beginning. (Example: ash = sash.)

3. Letters can be rearranged to form new words. (Bean = bane, pea = ape, parsley = players, yam = may.)
