MANTRA OF THE MONTH

Saturday, April 03, 2010

"I want what I have"

It's perfectly natural to desire more-more clothes, more friends, more money; it's only human. But obsessing over the things you're lacking can make you feel dissatisfied. This month take a moment to acknowledge what you do have-anything from your healthy body, which can carry you through a 6-mile run, to your best friend, who's really more like a sister. Remember that, while life can always get better, it's fulfilling to appreciate where you are.

I totally agree with you. After nearly losing my life I appreciate every day as it comes and thank the Lord for another beautiful day. I can always find good things every day. Happy Easter to you and your family emoticon

Give Your Food A Flavor Boost

Friday, April 02, 2010

You love burgers, but you're watching your waistline. That doesn't mean you have to resort to eating a dry patty of meat. Sure, you'll want to ditch the chili, the cheese and the mayo. However, you can still enjoy a burger that packs a mean punch without overdoing it. Dress up your burger with healthy extras. Lettuce, pickles, tomato, avocado, salsa, mustard and ketchup are all acceptable toppings that won't tack on a ton of fat and calories.

I will not and have not given up burgers. I don't eat them very often and most of the time substitute a turkey burger for beef. As for toppings mustard has become a real favorite for me on lots of things.

An Aspirin A Day....

Thursday, April 01, 2010

Forget apples. Experts want you to pop an aspirin a day...and they say it could save your life. Aspirin therapy has made quite a name for itself over the years. According to the experts, aspirin therapy not only reduces the risk of damage during heart attacks, it also prevents stroke and future heart problems. Researchers recommend taking between 80 and 160 mg per day.

Diversify Your Workouts

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Spending hours upon hours on the treadmill can be downright dull. After an extended period of time, the same old exercises are going to wear out their welcome. Variety is the spice of life -- so be sure to mix it up regularly. For starters, find a balance of strength training and aerobic activity. Do light weight lifting two to three days a week. Perform a variety of moves that work the various muscle groups. Take a Pilates or weight lifting class. The other two days, swim, jog or participate in another aerobic activity. When it comes to exercise, you're only limited by your imagination. By keeping it interesting, you'll be more likely to stick to a consistent regimen.

Couldn't agree more! Sometimes I don't do enough along the variety lines, but I try to keep my eyes / ears open to new and stimulating activities to keep my interest and focus!

Winter's are always the most challenging as the chilly outdoors can be limiting. But that's why I developed an interest in cross country skiing. However this winter was terrible in not providing enough snow to get out regularly so that I can build my confidence.

But I plan to keep trying! :-)

Add, Don't Subtract

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Instead of concentrating on cutting foods out of your diet, bring new foods to the table. There are probably a whole slew of fruits and vegetables you've never sampled. In order to prevent yourself from feeling deprived, train yourself to look at all the foods you can eat instead of those you should stay away from. Do some research and give healthy recipes a try. Thanks to the internet, there are thousands of diet-friendly dishes just waiting to be experienced.
