An artist had some paintings on display in a gallery, and he stopped in one day to ask the owner if there had been any interest in his work.
“I have good news and bad news,” the owner replied. “The good news is that a gentleman inquired about your paintings and wondered if they’d appreciate in value after your death. When I said yes, he bought all twelve!”
“That’s terrific!” the artist exclaimed. “So what’s the bad news?”
“Well,” the owner said, “the gentleman was your doctor.”

What fast-food chain’s slogan was “Buy ‘em by the sack”? What copycat competitor urged, “Take home a bagful”?

Sack, White Castle; bagful, White Tower.

(I knew White Castle - grew up eating them! Never heard of White Tower)

LIFE IMITATES TV

ON TV: In 2009, The Big Bang Theory’s Howard (Simon Helberg) designs a toilet for the International Space Station, and it breaks.

IN REAL LIFE: Not long after the episode aired, the ISS toilet broke.

ON TV: On a 1993 Seinfeld episode, Elaine’s (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) boyfriend shares the name of a killer, so she suggests he change it to something more “innocent,” like O. J.

IN REAL LIFE: A year later, football legend O. J. Simpson was arrested for double homicide.

(Eerie - emoticon )

Most watched TV interview: Barbara Walters talking with Monica Lewinsky (1999).

Son: During naptime today, the teacher called the police and they came and took me down to the station.
Mother: Why on earth would they do that?
Son: Because I was resisting a rest.

THE SCIENCE OF TV

All About TiVo

TiVo is the first and most recognizable brand name of digital video recorder (DVR), which records TV shows and stores them on a hard drive. It’s much more interactive than a VCR, allowing users to record two shows at once and pause live television. More than four million TiVo boxes have been sold in the US, and millions more off-brand DVRs have been issued by cable companies. While the device is revolutionary (a show’s airtime is no longer relevant), it has had negative effects on the TV industry—so many people are recording shows and fast-forwarding through the commercials that advertisers have begun to look for other ways to make an impression. Result: more prominent product placement.
____________________________
Studies say viewers with DVRs actually watch more commercials than those without DVRs.

    Interesting bits of information...
I tried recording a night/evening show to watch during the day... I was very disappointed... I don't think I ever did that again. The show just was not the same as it would have been when originally broadcast. I did record lots of movies,,, so I could watch them over and over again whenever I wanted to see them.
I know.. more feed back than you wanted to hear. Just pretend I never left this comment. Hugs Audra

Where in the U.S. was the first monument to Christopher Columbus erected?

In Baltimore, Maryland, in 1792, on the 300th anniversary of his historic voyage. Originally on the private estate of the French consul, the 44½-foot-tall white obelisk now stands in Herring Run Park in northeast Baltimore.

On Bewitched, Dick York played Darrin Stephens, the befuddled mortal husband of witch Samantha. Throughout the series, York was in constant pain due to a back injury sustained during the filming of a 1959 western. By 1968, he could barely move; after he collapsed on the set and was rushed to a hospital in 1969, York quit the show. Rather than write Darrin out, Bewitched producers brought in a new actor to portray him. They went with Dick Sargent, who had been the original choice for the part in 1964, but had been unavailable. Darrin’s new appearance was never explained (not even as “magic”) and Sargent stayed with Bewitched until the end of its run.

(I have always and will always be a fan of Dick York - he was and always will be Darrin Stephens to me!)

Sunday 10-13-2013 Silly

One morning Richard was reading an article in the paper. He said to his wife, “Did you know that women use about thirty thousand words a day, while men only use fifteen thousand words?”
His wife replied, “It’s got to be because a woman has to say everything twice.”
Richard turned to her and said, “What?”
