Boy: Great! I already made a huge discovery about the Civil War.
Father: What’s that?
Boy: Many battles were fought at National Park sites!

TUBE QUIZ

We’ve mashed together the scenarios of two shows. Can you guess their blended titles?

1. A writer (Bob Newhart) buys a Vermont inn for some peace and quiet, which he doesn’t get … because he keeps having to solve jewel-heist mysteries with his wife (Stefanie Powers).

2. Two divorced women move in together to raise their children; one (Susan Saint James) is the mother of a headstrong teenager … the other (Calista Flockhart) is a flaky lawyer who wears extremely short miniskirts.

3. An executive (Christina Applegate) gets in an accident and has amnesia, rendering her unable to remember anything … such as whether she or her live-in male housekeeper (Tony Danza) is the one really running the house.

Answers below-

Keep scrolling-

Almost there-

Success!

1. Newhart + Hart to Hart = Newhart to Hart
2. Kate & Allie + Ally McBeal = Katie & Ally(ie) McBeal
3. Samantha Who + Who’s the Boss? = Samantha Who’s the Boss?

A lawyer was defending a man accused of robbery. He told the judge, “Your Honor, my client simply inserted his arm into the window and removed a few small items. I don’t think it’s fair to punish the whole individual for a crime that was committed by a single limb.”
“Well,” replied the judge, “using your logic, I will sentence your client’s arm to a year in jail. He can decide if he’d like to accompany it or not.”
The lawyer smiled as the defendant removed his prosthetic arm, laid it on the table, and walked out of the courtroom.

What reality TV star advised college students to “study hard, but party harder” during a 2011 campus appearance?

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, of Jersey Shore, in an appearance at New Jersey’s Rutgers University for which she was paid $32,000. That was $2,000 more than the fee paid six weeks later to Nobel Prize–winning author Toni Morrison for delivering the university’s commencement address.

Portland, Oregon, station KPTV has aired reruns of the 1957–66 courtroom drama Perry Mason every weekday at noon since 1970. KPTV was an independent station, then became a UPN affiliate, and is now a Fox station. Perry Mason has stayed on the air, at noon, throughout. In fact, when station manager Patrick McCreery was hired in 2009, he had to sign a contract promising he wouldn’t move or cancel Perry Mason. Because if it doesn’t air precisely at noon, viewers get upset. In 2008, the show was preempted for 30 minutes so KPTV could show President Barack Obama signing the economic stimulus bill. Irate Mason fans began phoning the station at 12:05 P.M. After 43 years, Perry Mason still brings in about 10 percent of all Portland viewers watching TV at that time of day.

(Power to the people! emoticon )

A little girl came home from her first day of kindergarten and announced to her mother, “I’m never going back there!”
“Why on earth not?” her mother asked.
The girl snapped back, “I can’t read. I can’t write. And the teacher won’t let me talk! So what’s the point?”

Miriam, 12, from Long Beach, New York, was in music class in 2010 when her friend Allyson started choking on a piece of gum. Miriam administered the Heimlich maneuver and the gum popped out. “I saw in my head Squidward with his clarinet lodged in his throat,” Miriam later said. “And then SpongeBob does the Heimlich and the clarinet comes flying out of his mouth!”

Monty: My wife is mad at me again.
Bartender: What did you do?
Monty: When I opened the front door this morning, her mother was standing on the step with her suitcases. She said, “Can I stay here for a few days?” I said, “Sure,” and shut the door.

Orphans for everyone!

On reality shows like The Bachelor, women compete for a (theoretical) romance with an eligible male. On an unsold reality show pitch reportedly called Adoption Island, childless couples were to compete against one another in stunts, games, and parental-skill-building exercises for the ultimate prize: the legal guardianship of an orphan.

Photos from that frightening storm

Sunday, September 01, 2013

Sorry you will have to turn your head to see these photos - I still haven't figured out how to fix that problem!

(This is a picture of the sheared off tree that's right next to my bedroom window. If the wind had been a different direction, my window might have been broken!)

I couldn't get these to load yesterday. This was just around my building - when I walked to the library yesterday afternoon, I truly couldn't believe all the damage. Hurray for Skokie though - they were out in force all day yesterday cleaning up. Most of the debris has been picked up already. I'm sure they'll be out again today to clean up the remainder.
