Nobel.
Nobel who?
Nobel so I knocked.

Where are the only two saddle joints in the human body?

At the base of both thumbs. The saddle joint allows the thumb to move back and forth and from side to side, and to reach across the palm to grasp things between the fingers and the thumb.

FABULOUS FLOPS

Two weird game shows

ACROSS THE BOARD (1959)
Concept: Two contestants compete to see who can finish a crossword puzzle first. (Have you ever watched somebody else fill out a crossword puzzle? It’s pretty boring.)

I remember seeing a tv show about 2 contestants vying to complete Word Search puzzles - but I don't remember a crossword puzzle game show - guess I was just too young! emoticon

CELEBRITY BOWLING (1971)
That’s pretty much it: Celebrities came on and bowled. Frequent guests included Telly Savalas, Roy Rogers, Bobby Darin, Carroll O’Connor, and Sammy Davis Jr. Amazingly, the show ran for seven years and inspired a similar show called Celebrity Tennis in 1974.

I totally would have watched this one - I love to watch bowling even now. And to watch some of my favorite celebrities bowling - oh, yeah! I would have loved to see Sammy Davis, Jr. bowling - he is still my all time favorite performer ever! But I don't even remember this one being on TV and I can't use the excuse that I was too young this time. emoticon

It's working!

Friday, May 24, 2013

My experiment - counting down my calories from 1500 to 0 rather than counting up to 1500 appears to be working quite well. I have been doing this for 1 week and have lost 1.5 lbs. already! emoticon m emoticon

In addition to counting down the calories, I have also gone back to weighing myself after I get home from work on Thursday's (my weigh-in day). I find that if I weigh myself in the morning, I treat the whole day Thursday as a "free" day and just keep on eating all day long. By weighing myself after work, I watch every single calorie as I normally do during the day Thursday. emoticon

Henry and Olivia, both 65 years old, were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. A fairy appeared and said to them, “Congratulations! I’m here to grant each of you one wish.”
Olivia said immediately, “I want to travel around the world.”
The fairy waved her wand, and poof! Olivia had a ticket in her hand for an around-the-world cruise. Then the fairy asked Henry what his wish was. He said sheepishly, “I want a wife who’s thirty years younger than me.”
So the fairy waved her wand, and poof! Henry was 95 years old!

When it comes to the World Wide Web, what is a metaverse?

A virtual 3-D online representation of reality. The word metaverse is a combination of meta (meaning “beyond”) and universe. It was first used in the 1992 cyberpunk sci-fi novel Snow Crash, by Neal Stephenson.

Smellovision

In April 1965, BBC Television interviewed a professor from London University who announced that he had perfected a technology that would allow odors to be transmitted along with television broadcasts. To demonstrate it, he put ground-up coffee and onions in the “Smellovision” transmitter … and told viewers, “For best results, stand six feet away from your set and sniff.” It was, of course, a hoax … but several people actually called in to the network to report that they had smelled the odors in their homes. Some even said that the smell of the onions had made their eyes water.

IDOL CHATTER

When American Idol debuted in 2002, it unleashed a pop culture juggernaut, leading to pop stars, an annual arena tour, and several years as the #1 show on TV. Idol production company 19 Entertainment also planned to make a movie at the conclusion of each season that would star that year’s winner and runner-up. Only one was made: From Justin to Kelly starring Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini, a cheesy, spring break beach romance. It was lambasted by critics and made only $4.9 million. The abysmal performance led to the cancellation of any and all future Idol movies … including From Ruben to Clay, starring season two’s Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken. Production had already begun on the film, which was going to be a modern-day version of the Bing Crosby/Bob Hope buddy comedy musical Road movies of the 1940s, such as Road to Singapore and Road to Morocco.
