Patience

Thursday, October 29, 2009

I have a little problem with patience. I find that I get anxious waiting around...yet I have to be early for everything. It's a paradox. I have learned to always carry a paperback book with me so I can read and stop looking at the clock.

Amelia Earhart

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

I just saw the movie "Amelia" and it started me thinking. Here was a woman with no fear of the unknown. She had a strong desire to achieve something and she went for it. What an inspirational person she was.

I wish I had 1/10th of her desire. I never had a real strong goal in my life. Even as a kid, I just knew I wanted to grow up and get married and work as a secretary or something like that. I never felt like I wanted to be "anyone" (like a burning desire to be an actor or a fireman or a dancer).

I know that there are many older people who have achieved their goals...but they had goals. I don't. I am pretty happy going along as I am, but I just sometimes wonder what might have been.

Library

Sunday, October 25, 2009

I wasn't sure just what I wanted to talk about today, so I figured I would just start typing and see what happens.

Being unemployed sure does give you a different perspective on the world. There are so many wonderful things to do during the day when you are not working. Naturally, you must spend alot of time searching for a job - which I have been doing - massive amounts of time! But when that is done, then I get to try to relax and stop worrying about it.

I go to my local library - I'm lucky because I live near 2 different ones and since I don't drive, I walk to them thereby getting my exercise too! The libraries offer free movies, free concerts, free lectures...all kinds of interesting topics are covered.

If you are a retired person, or just not working now, check it out!

I am not working at the moment either...being unemployed does give you lot's of free time to do whatever you want...although I'm sure having a job where you are your own boss is even better.

I wish my library had so many events! They are expanding it this year though, the building should be finished soon. I hope they have a book club or something like that.

I also enjoy my many trips to the library for the free concerts, shows and talks. And I have gotten in to reading more and always have a couple of books on the shelf.

Rain

Friday, October 23, 2009

I don't know about you, but rain always seems to make me feel like eating more. Maybe it's because I'm stuck in the house and that darn refrigerator is calling my name. I don't know. It could be because it's just so dark and dreary outside. That also makes me a little depressed...and when I get depressed, I eat.

It seems like its been raining forever, although in reality, it's just the 2nd day. But it is supposed to be raining all day today and again tomorrow.

I am going to really try to refrain from eating everything in my refrigerator and cabinets.

Wish me luck!

I am wishing you luck. I know how you feel. My advice to you is to focus on something else - not the rain and how you normally feel in this situation. Try to find something else to do beside opening the refrigerator door (smile). Use the computer or read a book. I started playing games on the computer when I get too bored and frustrated. Finding one that kept my interest was a little challenging, but I found one. Also, try exercising. Believe me it helps!

It's raining where I am too - and will be for the next couple of days. So, I'll be using the advice that I gave you. Wish me luck!

Pickles

Thursday, October 22, 2009

I LOVE Kosher dill pickles. I have loved them since I was little, little girl. Something about the crispness and crunch of a really good dill pickle makes me happy!

I know how much sodium is in pickles. Lucky for me, I have no problem with sodium, so I can eat pickles to my heart's content. They are low in calories, too. I find that I eat them kinda like dessert.

I think maybe pickles remind me of my family life - we always ate them when I was a kid. My dad would go to the deli and bring home all kinds of wonderful foods - salami, corned beef, bagels...and PICKLES from the pickle barrel. Delicious. Nothing better on a hot summer day than a crispy fresh pickle.

I eat pickles with a sandwich instead of chips. I get my crispy and salty bite without all the calories. And the flavors are endless as well.
