Communications Skills

Thursday, March 29, 2012

Did you know that people respond 55 percent to your body language and expression, 38 percent to your vocal inflection, and only 7 percent to what you say? (I didn't know either!)

Make certain that your gestures, facial features, and tone of voice reinforce the words you are saying.

3 more myths of de-cluttering

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

1. “First, I need to get organized.” No! First, get rid of everything you don’t need or want. Toss, recycle, give away. When you’ve cleared out the clutter, you may find yourself with nothing left to organize.

2. “I need to be hyper-organized.” There’s a real pleasure in having a place for everything. However, this impulse can become destructive: if you’re spending a lot of time alphabetizing your spices, sorting plastic toys into bins, or creating 80 categories for your home files, consider whether you need to be quite so precisely organized.

3. “I need some more inventive storage containers.” See #1. If you get rid of everything you don’t need, you may not need any fancy containers.

I am normally a neat tidy organized person, but I have so little free time right now, that its difficult to stay on top of things. (I work 75 hours a week.)

I feel I have done a good job if I am putting things back where they belong and spending 15 minutes a night decluttering :) I set a timer and go to work. It really helps to keep the clutter to a minimum.

I have no problem with being clean and organized... at times this holds me back. I can't think if I left my place dirty or going to bed knowing that there are dirty dishes in the sink. But this is a good problem to have.

You really made me laugh at this one. Perhaps
I need to read & re-read those. Perhaps I shall
get organized one of these days!

SO, are you Organized?

BUT, but, but......!!! Okay, you are RIGHT!!! I may just have too much stuff that I was planning on organizing, so I need to start at #1. BUT, before i do that, I have a few more things to add:

#1 - WHAT is important to me, and WHY?

#2 - WHAT do I want to accomplish over the next few "days, weeks, months, year?

#3 - WILL keeping/organizing this particular ITEM(s) help me reach #1 and #2?

#4 - AM I HAVING FUN???? Or just worrying about what I have to organize next???

I have my work cut out for me!! But I promise I won't go to Target today and buy those organizers I was planning on buying until I have tackled some of my clutter areas!!! Thanks!!!

Just a few silly jokes

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing.

I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to go there.

If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

Five mornings a week, my husband goes to the health club, gets on the stair-stepper, sets the timer, and buries his nose in a book. Recently, he noticed an amazingly fit middle-aged woman who seemed to run circles around everyone, took few breaks, and rarely even broke a sweat.
"It's not fair," he complained. "By the time I'm dragging myself off to the showers, she's hopping back onto the stepper for another session."
One day he came home with a sheepish grin. "Well," he said, "they're identical twins."

Don't you think it's unnerving that doctors call what they do "Practice"?

Hope some of these made you giggle! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Don't Judge

Monday, March 26, 2012

Try not to judge people harshly, especially on first meeting. Their actions might not reveal their enduring character but instead reflect some current situation in which they find themselves.

that is so very true! i am often surprised by people, in both good ways and bad. and you never really know what is happening in someone else's heart or head. the kindest person can once in a while show an ugly face to the world when they're in pain.

I think it's human nature to judge, even though it is wrong on so many levels. Whenever I have a critical thought about another person, I try to turn it around and find something positive about them. Great reminder for a Monday. Thanks!
